You people anger me . Do you think Sean gathered everyone up & decided to re-record this song? There was probably a deal with record companies, producers & maybe Yoko Oh No. Sean was very young at the time & probably had very little to do with it. His life was ripped apart, he was left in the hands of Yoko & you people do nothing but criticize. Sure this version sucks but it wasn't Sean's fault! I can't wait to watch you parasites scurry like bugs next time the earth shakes & the waters rise.
you know this song makes me think is war the people's voice or the ruling class. war hurts the comon person while it lines the kings pockets. maybe it's time to washington to go fight their own fucking war!!!!
Wonderful version. I was in my senior of high school...has a friend over, working on our final paper for the semester, when the news broke with the war...a news correspondent almost got nailed with a missile on live tv...We never did work our our paper, or did any studying for our exams. this song was released not long after the war began...released/played again for yet another war had begun overseas...by then I was damn well old enough to "grasp" all that was going on, and this song
Al Jarreau, Bonnie Rait - all of them. So beautiful. I never saw this video. I love it. Sickening that it's 20 years ago and things have only gotten worse.
I remember that this song was recorded right before the 1st Gulf War ( I was 17) The VERY DAY we started bombing Iraq in the 90's, MTV played this video 24/7. My boyfriend at the time had just turned 18, and there was talk of re-instating the draft. I was so scared he would be taken, so I watched this song over and over for about 12 hrs straight. I know that our country needs to defend the freedoms of the world, and I support it . But I wish to God that we had peace, NOW more than ever!!!
i remember this too! i was 12, but it's like it was yesterday for me. so many memories at that time...several of us actually walked out of school in protest, i tripped down a hill & hurt my ankle. we holed up @ a friend's house for the day, i remember sitting on the couch w my foot propped up on ice watching this over & over, knowing it was a pivotal moment but not truly realizing its magnitude.
liberals = tree huggers = non realists John Lennon in reality was a woman beating, drug using, paranoid, wife cheating husband...Julian Lennon is a gentle soul who was ripped off because his father repeated his fathers sins...
I used to have this taped when I was little... I'd watch it over and over. Popped into my head on the way home from work.. this video made my night :)
How dare you all diss musicians like this, like musicians have an expiration date. So just because a musician is famous they automatically become part of the MAN, the machine or starving for attention? They have to make money to live, to eat, and this is a beautiful song. Had John Lennon not been murdered you would have been talking the same smack about him being a has been. Shut up and get over yourselves!
Most of these turds were either on their way out or were already irrelevant (Al Jureau? Little Richard, Adam Ant) and were starving for attention. Kravitz was simply coopting the Beatle/Lennon legacy and/or using lennon's confirmed coolness, cred and cult for his own advantage. He, like most celebs, is ambitious and impressed with power and fame--thus he befriended John's son, Sean, whose voice is so eunich and throaty and weak-- a priviledged, royal dink
The remake was made in the early 1990's to protest the first Iraq war (Desert Storm/Desert Shield) which is why it is a conglomeration of musicians popular at that time. The original was protesting the fiasco in Vietnam. Both are valid interpretations of the music and I believe John Lennon would have been proud to have his son taking a stand against war in this way. He would not, however, have been happy with the name calling and rudeness going on here.
@CaptainShinyJunk If you actually read what I said, I said this was worse than D-Listers singing Let it Be in another video. I knew who all the celebs were in here, you make me out to be some sort of idiot, like you. I was saying the content in this video was worse than another video I saw. My quote was "At least this had some relevant people from the early 90s" If you would've read the whole comment, you wouldn't have made an ass of yourself, you pathetic piece of crap. :)
What was wrong with the 1990s? This is almost as bad as the D-Listers singing Let it Be for some European talk show. At least this had some relevant people for the early 90s. This is sooo corny. I don't disagree with the intended message. But yikes.
@xzono1990 No offense but Lenny Kravitz, Tom Petty, Michael McDonald, Wendy & Lisa, Iggy Pop, The Zappa Kids, Dave Stewart, LL Cool J, Don Was, Bonnie Raitt, Peter Gabriel, Little Richard, Cyndi Lauper, Little Steven, Randy Newman, Flea and Al Jureau ( I know I spelled it wrong....get over it....LOL) are NOT D-Listers. Do some musical history homework on these people and stop leaving your negative comments.
i remember seeing this on PBS when it was new. i don't remember it being this bad, but then it was 1991.

A pesar ser interpretada por buenos cantantes, no se compara a la versión en vivo de John lennon acompañado de Hippies.

Why didn't he just dig up his dad and string him up like a puppet the little no talent fuck.
How is it that Julian has all the talent but Sean has access to his fathers work???
