  • This brings back some memories. Adam Faith legend! Where does all the time go.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • I always liked the slightly psychedelic and soporific feel to this intro

  • I bought the complete box set so me and my dad could watch it together, as we'd watched it before many moons ago. A bit sad really, we'd watch one or two episodes per week to make it last, but by the 2nd or 3rd from last episodes my dad got too ill to keep awake, and passed away, leaving me to watch the last couple of episodes on my own. I hoped he was there watching with me in spirit.

  • God I remember this like it was ages ago!

    Thank You.

  • The instrumental at the beginning is cool. Memories. :-)

  • BISCUIT COLIN ?

  • he was so gorgeous, looks a bit like Jon Bon Jovi so sad he died he was a sweet man.

  • Final episode was really sad. He just hadn't a clue what he'd done wrong....

  • classic television

  • I remember seeing this as a kid, as my mum and dad used to watch it. All I recall was Budgie always seemed to be getting threatened or roughed up by Big Charlie Endell.

  • i remember the show but what is the tune called

  • @john111257 I just uploaded a "video response" The title is The Loner.

  • wow i forgot about this show,i saw the repeat in the early 80s,havent seen it since, adam is a good actor see, stardust and mc vicar movies

  • I'll break your fingers with a toffee hammer Budgie and use your guts for airplane elastic

  • I'll break your fingers with a toffee hammer Budgie and use your guts as airplane elastic

  • Mr Cuthbertson scared the shite out of me..

  • @Rovergbjy "Listen to ME, Budgie Bird!!"

  • I always wanted a budgie jacket never did get one...

  • Ah, Budgie... a real gem. Maybe you had to be there but it makes me pine for 1971

  • @greenbadge1988 You are not wrong friend,Budgie was a real "must watch" series back then when I was 12 years younger than you are now!!!

  • Is that Michael Lindsay Hogg's voice on the control room tape?

  • In reply to myself, yes it is.I see the sound of the first theme comes from a 'making of Budgie' clip from May 1971 (which can be seen here on YouTube-look to the left) and MLH can be seen directing the episode on that clip.

  • be a good girl and put an episode on yt, i used to watch this in the early 70s, friday eve at 9...very popular...

  • I really liked the original theme tune. Sounds quite "Caravan"ish.

I was about 5 when Budgie was first shown, but they re-ran it on Channel 4 in the mid 80s...amusing stuff, especially the "gor blimey mate" Lundun accents.

  • loved it was only v young but my grandad used 2 let us watch it shows im getting old

  • I only recall the first title song. I had a white denim Budgie suit by the way...

  • Both great themes. The second one is called Nobodys Fool performed by Cold Turkey and written by Ray Davies(the guy singing is practically doing a Davies impression).I don't remember the original run but it was repeated in the early 80's although i only remember the original theme so perhaps only the first series was shown.

  • I remember he used to wear bright green clogs. I went out & bought a pair ~ could only get dark blue, so I bought Lady Esquire Bright gReen Shoe Dye from Woolies. Man alive...those were the days.

  • This Takes me Back, Great Programme & Great Days, Thanks for posting.

  • was my favourite show when i was about 12 or 13... i suppose the frequent naked women in it didn,t hurt..

  • I remember a phrase from the show; Budgie very unenthusiastically trying to lure punters into Charlie's soho girlie joint by saying "They are naked and they move" in a deadpan voice. Great stuff! Personally I was more into Adam Faith than the girls, though ;o)

  • @wildwomanofwonga

yes I too remember this phrase, but I think it might just have been "They are naked, and they don't half move" but no matter. I so loved this series as a young man, and later working in a crap boring civil service job, to lighten up the day we used to often say "Gor blimey Haze" with reference to his girlfriend.

  • Aussies smuggle him in their ...

  • These titles were only used for the 1st series (in 1971). The second series had the same opening graphics but different music.

  • Shut. I just realised that both versions of the theme are in this. But why did you rip the sound for the first titles from the making of documentary? Haven't you got the first series on DVD?

  • No; otherwise no doubt I would have used them.

  • I have the whole full length 2min 43 sec original theme from series 1 on a CD, it was performed by the Milton Hunter Orchestra and titled "the loner" Very evocative and has a whole refrain that you only ever got a few soconds of in the series as the tiles faded into the programe.Any interest ? and I will upload it,.

  • Would love to hear it . Like you say, a very evocative theme. Lov ed the series too

  • no problem, check my uploads, its been up for a while

  • Please!! The theme tune is fantastic!

  • check my uploads, its been up for ages.Cheers and enjoy

  • I became a life long fan of Adam Faith because of Budgie - I loved it and him. Sadly missed

  • I remember watching the open title being filmed. It was in South Harrow park (just outside London).

The "money" was put on the ground and blown away by a giant fan.

Then a boy, I helped to collect the paper up afterwards.

  • Verity Lambert mentions on the DVD of series 2that Ray Davies did the music for the second titles. :)

  • adam faith was sooo gorgeous rip
