I'll repeat it again and again...Dusty delivers something that never loses your interest. She could sing about the dog crap stuck on the bottom of her shoes and you'd still cling to her every word. I don't know how else to explain the sincerity in her voice. She never fails to make me care about whatever it is she's singing about. The basis of this song is a bit pretentious but I can't help but listen to what she has to say. Wow what a song and what a lady!!!!
i love Dusty's version of this! Thanks for posting it! it should be mentioned that this is NOT a final vocal- Dusty recorded a guide vocal for this song but never laid down the final vocal- what you are hearing is basically a rehearsal. This finally saw the light of day along with the other songs from the unreleased LONGING album in 2001, with 2 other songs ("A Love Like Yours" and "Angels") that have only guide or incomplete vocals.
I love the Cher version as well! Dion recorded a the song as 'Make the WOman love" me in 1977, which is also excellent (it was produced by Phil Spector).
I just listened to Dion's rendition. Is this the same Dion that was popular back in the 60's? If so, I had no idea he was making music in the 70's...I guess because I really didn't follow his career. I can totally tell Dion's rendition was produced by Phil Spector...it has that "sound" to it.
Yes! he's the Dion of Dion and the Belmonts of "Runaround Sue" fame. He made a sort of comeback in the early 1970s after a drug problem that kept him away for the better part of the 1960s. The Spector album is excellent but it was never released in the USA. Download it if you can find it! My favorite 1970s Cher song is probably "David's Song", what's yours?
OMG, I have so many favorite Cher songs from the 70's, it would be hard to name just one. It also depends on if we're talking early 70's or late 70's. From the early 70's, I think one of my all-time favorite Cher songs would have to be What'll I Do. It's a waltz and I'm a sucker for waltzes. From the late 70's, I'd have to say it's a toss up between Take Me Home and Love And Pain.
This rare track is fantastic. How could it have been shelved in the first place, let alone for so long. What are the chances that this will be commercially available, either as an MP3 download or more conventional CD track.
This track appears on the out-of-print Dusty CD "Beautiful Soul" which combines her 1973 "Cameo" album plus nine of the ten tracks from the shelved "Longing" LP. "Corner of the Sky" was left off as Dusty never completed the vocals, but Petula Clark filled in the gaps and turned it into a duet that appears on two of her recent CDs.
I think that you may be thinking of the "Longing" album.
Most of it has escaped into the collector market, and if you look carefully at her various collections on CD you'll find most of it. Some great stuff, and well worth the search.

Cher recorded this song on her "Dark Lady" album back in 1974. Cher's rendition is a little more upbeat but, both are excellent.

This is exactly the sort of music she should have concentrated. God, she sang with soul.
