Even while I watched this as a eight year old kid in the 70's I couldn't believe how cheesy this was! (And I was pretty cheesy for watching it. Or bored.)
...on a routine expedition that the greatest earthquake ever known??? high on the rapids it struck their tiny raft??? what kind of grammar is that? these hollyweed saturday morning guys were sure rapids high.
This show was made in the 1970's, but even by 1960's standards the "special effects" are a joke. Though, I but this would be a great commercial for the idiotic "Creation Museum" in Tenn.
@Timbrock1000 Some of the effects are bad, yeah. But keep in mind it was a kids show with a shoe-string budget. All the jungle and dino effects I thought looked good. If you've ever watched the show, there's a lot of detail in the jungle long-shots. Those are all miniatures done by an asian guy. It must've took him forever, but when his work was chroma-keyed with the actors, I thought it looked good. The show had some good sci-fi stories and was a lot better than the 90's remake and movie.
i love this show evan though im only 11. i saw about 5 hours of it because i dvr'd it because they had a marathon. i love the dino - evan though he looks like clay! :)
@hoover321f & Quisp, Count Chocula, Trix, Kaboom, Fruity Pebbles. . . I don't know if it was the sugar overdose or Sleestacks that gave me the nightmares?
@hoover321f I agree! Knowing the kind of technology that was available back then, I'm, STILL, amazed at the "vintage" special effects! Also, in my opinion, whoever was "in charge of" or responsible for the Tyrannosaurus' "growl," did an EXCELLENT job!
When I was younger I saw a couple cartoons about an underwater city called the Land of the Lost-where all lost items end up.I later learned the cartoons were based on an old radio show.Nowadays when I say Land of the Lost, most people only think of this Junior Jurassic show.
This is another show I grew up on. The part where the boat goes over the huge waterfall used to scare me as a child...I loved it. Not to mention the groovy Sleestacks. :)
This show was well written for a Kids show in the 70s.Especially since most of the Krofft shows were acid trips. This was watchable for adults as well.
i remember watching this show all the time as a kid and being sooo freaked out by it... it gave me nightmares... yet i'd have to watch it again a day later... i hated those grotesque freakin' slee stack... they remind of boy george (now THAT is scary)
As a gimmick, he had himself billed as simply "Wesley" in the "Land of the Lost" (1974) credits. This ploy hardly worked as it was intended to; in fact, Eure regrets the effort to this day.
special fx were still pretty limited up until lucas did star wars - that was the big leap. As for satruday mornings, it was about the budget, done as cheaply as possible regardless of what was available.
we were sure into though! When your 8, its like your on acid all the time!

Marshall, Will, and Holly
On a routine expedition
MET the greatest earthquake ever known.
High on the rapids
It struck their tiny raft.
And plunged them down a thousand feet below.
