  • 2006 was a great year for Latinos, especially for Mexicans. I'm glad the Oscars took notice and got them nominated for Oscars. Sadly none of them won, but it was a great year. I almost reacted the same why as Salma....I'm Mexican American and we never hear that many Latino names at the Academy Awards! We're lucky to hear at least one Latino name at the Oscars each year.

  • @mattbernabe Actually, Guillermo Navarro (Mexico) won best cinematography for Pan's Labyrith- movie which also won best makeup (Mexicans)! Santaolalla (Argentina) also won for best score!

  • Everybody talks about how Salma was excited for her friends, but you only mention the obvious: Penélope Cruz, the Three Amigos, etc. What about Will Smith? They worked together in Wild Wild West and she looks excited for him too :) listen to the way she says his name.

  • Pan's Labyrinth n Babel were fuuucking amazing movies n really deserve the oscar, n Adriana Barraza was PHENOMENAL on Babel, she really really was meant for the oscar. n im not even Mexican but it makes me angry how all that talent didnt got what it really deserved! soooo not cool

  • beyoncé should've been nominated for best leading actress!

  • @facebookgiggity67 you're kidding right ?!!

  • salma maked me laugh when she said "YES!!!!!!!" for penelopé cruz

  • panth's labyrinth should win best foreign lenguage film...

  • Cool to see the great Mexican trio of film makers all get recognized this year. Pan's Labyrinth, Babel, and Children of Men were all FANTASTIC.

    To say the least.

  • salma cazi llo0ra ze emo0cio0no0 k chido0!!!

  • the sounds salma makes are disgusting...she breaths like an old hag and swallows her own mucus

  • 2006?????? why u say 2007??

  • "For Best Performance by an Actress, The Nominees are: Penelope Cruz.."

    "YES!!"

    "In Volver"

    LOL! Salma! Yeah!

  • 1:55 Now THAT'S how you say 'Leonardo DiCaprio".

  • que hermosa se ve salma

  • Definitivamente debio haber ganado Babel como mejor pelicula.

  • @renunciacion1 si fue un fraude

  • A fantastic year for Best Actress. Mirren was a little underwhelming, but still very good. Penelope was great, Meryl fantastic, Kate amazing! But Judi Dench deserved it. What a performance!

  • Salma was great during this, so emotional and funny... she was so happy when a mexican (and penelope) grabbed a nomination!!!

  • Yeees!! jajajajajaj

  • Departed should not have won, Ryan Gosling should have got best actor, sigh they really sucked it up this year.

  • Pan's Labyrinth should have won

Oscar ... was a truly unfair, this film is truly a masterpiece

  • Castellano de Espanna, no espannol de Mexico, jajajajaja, Estos muchachos de hoy dia....

  • alfonso cuaron's best performance at the oscars...'children of men' (cuaron directed), 'pan's labyrinth' (cuaron was one of the producers), babel (Gael García Bernal starred in the Cuaron hit film 'Y tu mamá también')...pan's labyrinth defeated children of men for cinematography, babel was a best picture nominee...

  • @Boss1infinitum Y yo q' dije?

  • that was so adorable how she yells "YES" when he said penelope's name :)

  • Comment removed

  • I completely agree with this.

  • Abigail Breslin was awesome :P

  • 1:30 kkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • Salma and penelope are friends. :D

  • hahaha that was so funny

Saludos!

  • Great nominations! The first time in oscar history that so many Latinos were nominated. Adrianna Barraza should have won Best Supporting Actress.

  • No, Rinko Kikuchi should've won.

  • penelope cruzz YESSSS

  • I can't fucking wait for the oscar nominations tomorow.

  • hahahaha it sounded like she was starting to cry when she announced babel as a best picture nominee

  • lol "...and from Canada, Water."

  • why LOL?

  • Because of how excited she was at Pan's Labyrinth nomination to the point of tears and then she blandly says "and from Canada, Water"

  • Is it Dreamgirls or Dreamwhores???

    Pls help...

  • Meryl Streep should have won, she did an excellent job in The Devil, though the competition was very strong.

Kate Winslet and Judi Dench also were fantastic in their roles, great actresses both.

Penelope Cruz did the best performance of her career.

And the winner Helen Mirren worked really good too, but I think she was a little overestimated that year, as she won almost everything.

  • That Best Actress lineup that year was great. All 5 nominees were magnificent.

  • Yes, Meryl Streep delivered one of her best performances ever. But never has the world seen a better performance than the one Helen Mirren delivered in The Queen. So I think it's fair. But, but, but. I think Pan's Labyrinth should have won for best foreign language film, in stead of The Lives of Others. Plus, Jennifer Hudson was my least favourite to win best supporting actress. I was hoping for Rinko Kikuchi to win that one...

  • adriana barraza is a great actress, and wath happenned with salma hayeck?? , i´m mexican but for me babel is not the best picture

  • Way better than The Departed.

And yes, Adriana Barraza's performance in Babel was one of that year.

    and btw, is Salma Hayek.

  • "Dreamgirls is expected to get a Best Picture nomination." BAHAHAHAHA.

  • It was, actually. Surprisingly, it didn't.

  • @chimerical31 Watching Beyonce try to act in Dreamgirls was unbearable.

  • @LuKasAV6 Amen. She should have been the supporting actress LOL

  • Alan Arkin's win was the most ridiculous win of the decade. He was by far the worst of those 5 nominees. Not only that, his performance was the least interesting one in "Little Miss Sunshine". Steve Carell, Greg Kinnear and Paul Dano deserved the nomination far more than him. He just won 'cause he's a veteran who lost a couple times in the '60s and for representing a beloved movie like LMS.

  • Eddie Murphy was favorite to win,but Nobrit came out the same day as the oscars ballets

  • Yeah, I know... he would be a much better winner.

  • My picks:

    Picture: The Departed

    Actor: Forest Whitaker

    Actress: Meryl Streep

    Supp. Actor: Jackie Earle Haley

    Supp. Actress: Adriana Barraza

    Directing: Martin Scorsese

    Original Screenplay: The Queen

    Adapted Screenplay: The Departed

  • wtf, are u guys seeing that stuff under? dang

  • Greengrass should have won.

  • Picture: Babel

    directong: Iñarritu

    Actor: Ryan G.

    Actor R: Alan Arking

    Actriz: Judi Dench

    Actriz R; Kikuchi

    Original S: Little Miss Sunshine

    Adapted S: Children of Men

  • Best Picture: Babel

    Best Director: Alejandro González Iñárritu

    Best Actor: Forest Whitaker

    Best Actress: Helen Mirren

    B. Supporting Actor: Jackie Earle Haley

    B. Supporting Actress: Rinko Kikuchi

  • fue un buen año de peliculA: mis predicciones eran asi: PELICULA: BABEL DIRECTOR: IÑARRITU ACTOR: FOREST ACTRIZ: KATE WINSLET ACTOR REPARTO: ALAN ARKING ACTRIZ REPARTO: RINKU KIKUCHI GUION ORIGINAL: LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE GUION ADAPTADO: CHILDREN OF MEN EDICION: BABEL PARTITURA: BABEL FOTOGRAFIA: CHILDREN OF MEN PELICULA EXTRANJERA: PAN'S LABYRINTH
  • No, te equivocaste en Actriz de Reparto. Debiste poner a Adriana Barraza.

  • Tus predicciones o tus predilectos?

  • YES!!

  • Dammit if Scorsese wasn't there Greengrass would have won.

  • Far from it, Greengrass wasn't even expected to be nominated.

  • jajajaja borat!!!!!!!! BORAT!!!

    pinche creida segun ella norteamericana

  • she was so hype about pan's labyrinth and then she said water all dull and shit.

    hahaha

  • Salma Hayek's voice is so weird lol.

  • that presidnet of the academy sucks dick

he doesnt know shit about movies

he produced a bunch of shitty adam sandler movies...that should give you an idea of what scum they have there

  • I completely agree.

  • why is she kinda crying at the end like i think its when she reads babel for best picture you can really tell???

  • Because she was exited, Babel was a MEXICAN production and Salma Hayek is MEXICAN too... like it or not.

  • These are last year's nominees, not this year's.

  • this year

  • saoirse sooo deserves to win!!

  • Anyone got the video of this year's nominations announcement?

  • This year's nomination is available in their official website.

  • I still love how excited Salma gets for all the love for Spanish movies. lol.

  • OMG Salma! Have some respect for the other nominees besides Penelope Cruz! Cheer for everything else, or don't cheer at all for Penelope Cruz at all!

  • She did it because Penelope is her long-time best friend...

It was an "in the moment" kind of thing I suppose...

  • Even if! It still wasn't fair for the other people nominated! Tickets? No?

  • Congratulations to the three best filmmakers in the world! Alfonso Cuarón, Alejandro González Iñárritu and Guillermo Del Toro; I'm sure we can expect great things from them.

  • No doubt the biggest surprises were Dreamgirls snubbed for Best Picture and Volver snubbed for Foreign Language Film.

  • Salma feels in such a state of shock because Volver wasn´t nominated, and so excited/overwhelmed for Pelenope's nomination, and for all mexicans nominated. It is very touching.

  • salma is not happy for penelope because she is spanish!! Spain is NOT latinamerica, you know? She is happy for her because they're BEST FRIENDS!!!! they're almost like sisters since like.. forever!! so she was happy for her best friend, not for a latino as penelope is NOT a latino... she is from Spain... that's in EUUUROOOPE! Not LATIN AMEEERIIICAA... ok?

  • I don't really think it was rehearsed per se. Salma would have anticipated that her best friend's highly touted perf would in fact be nominated, but I still think the reaction was a genuine display of excitement. She might have intentionally wanted to make a scene, but I think she was still reacting on her gut instinct as genuinely happy for her friend to be nominated.

  • Adrianna Barraza should have won. [best supp. actress]

Iñarritu should have won. [best director]

Pan's Labyrinth should have won. [best foreign film]

Guillermo Arriaga should have won. [screenplay]

I got all teary when I heard the nominations for Best Supporting Actress, Screenplay, Director and Picture because I'm mexican :P!!

  • jaja, lo see :D !

  • lo see :D ! jeje

  • Penelope Cruz is spanish, not mexican.

  • Salma is so fun and proud of her mexicans.

    Thats s´pure joy to watch

How could the Departed got a Nominess to be determend, what does that mean?

  • I think that means the producers who would represent the film hadn't been decided at that time.

  • It means for each best picture nominee, you can only have 3 producers. If there are more, then they are to be determined.

  • I didn't know that. Thanks!

  • Babel: 6/10 sick of that artsy fartsy crap...gimme a real story

The Departed: 7/10 great movie, horrible ending (made me want to strangle the writer)

Blood Diamond: 9/10 didn't see last king of scotland so BD was my movie of the year (not nominated?!? must be political)

  • No, it was that most people didn't really like it. Most were surprised that it actually got 5 nominations.

  • Plus, Blood Diamond wasn't nominated for any Best Picture awards at all. No mention in the Producers or Directors Guild, no Golden Globe nomination for best drama, no Critics awards, and so on... How could it get nominated for a Best Picture Oscar in this situation???

  • Really don't understand what you mean about Babel being artsy fartsy crap, it had 4 seperate yet intertwined stories which were all very personal and potent in my opinion. Didn't see what was artsy fartsy about it at all, I loved it. Just because it doesn't hold your hand and tell you what's going on every 5 minutes through dialogue doesn't mean the story is any less present or effective.

  • babel

  • Peter O'Toole so richly deserves an Oscar for "Venus"!

What a performance, moving, well-crafted, honest. He is still our LION of the silver screen: a silver-tongued, golden talent of a man. It's CRIMINAL that he didn't win before for "Lion in Winter", "Becket", and "Lawrence of Arabia". O'Toole deserves an award for what he calls "a piece of work", not some token lifetime achievement Oscar. Honor him properly, Academy.

  • Yeah I root for O'Toole too. But unfortunately I think Forest Whitaker will win.

  • clint eastwood is a legend

  • Let's see if they can overlook Scorsese yet again. Clint Eastwood sux.

  • That would be an ultimate cruelty. This time they have no excuse for leaving Scorsese without an Oscar. Not even Clint is much of an excuse, as he won 2 Oscars just 2 years ago, one as director, one as producer, and he has 4 Oscars already.

And it's the first time ever that a Scorsese-directed film wins both the DGA and the WGA. Pretty good sign, don't you think? I really hope his time has come at last!

  • Well, to be fair to Clint (though thank God Marty finally won), if he had won, it would have been more for the whole Iwo Jima films in general, as a congrats prize for undertaking such a hard project.

  • I hate clint eastwood if he wina another oscar ill kill everyone and evrything till im satisfied

  • Oh hell yes!

  • Penelope for the win!

  • There's Helen Mirren in her way...

  • Helen Mirren IS a Legend

  • Word.

  • salma is a legend. 'YESS'

  • as if... she is just a stupid latin who knew who to fuck to get ahead

  • ur a fucking twat. 'stupid latin' well your intelligent arent you! fucking thick shit.piss off cunt.

  • sorry lame kiss-ass... no wonder you like salma's films, only idiots motherfuckers do lol, bye bye cocksucker

  • FUCK you all, you can't see a latin woman without kissing her ass and wanting to jump her bones, fucking insipid bastards

  • at the start the dude calls him Sid Gayness! hahaha quality. unlucky mate gutted with that surname. haha

  • I love it when they announce Penelope... ;-)
