@claymonatic The Royal Marines are a special unit of the Royal Navy. They should not be compared to a whole branch such as the US Marine Corps because the Royal navy itself is not a separate branch.
@claymonatic royal marines are not better. the brits have not headed a major war since ww2. small battles and conflicts but no major wars. the usmc have been tested and tried on the modern combat battlefield in the past 100 years and have been hugely successful. due mostly in part to our stellar training, brotherhood and the american mindset of "never give in and keep fighting".
And that's how they make Butter Bars... That and 10% of the Naval Academy (Canoe U). And as long as they listen to those of us who are or were Sgt(s), we will take care of them and make them the damn fine officers most of them tend to be.
It's inspiring to see that people who could have surely held easier, higher paying, jobs decide instead to sacrifice that opportunity to serve as a marine. These aren't guys who went in just for the helluvit. These men came to the Marines for a reason burning inside them, to do a good far greater than anything they may have otherwise done. There aren't a lot of people with that kind of will and self endowed moral obligation that tells them "This is what you're meant for"
Home of the brave, and home of the tough, Semper Fi "Always faithful" and that's no bluff! They're mighty and true, they protect our freedom for me and you. @armysappergirl4life Sapper, did you get an answer to this Q? Your local USMC Recruiter can tell you the straight scoop. Don't listen to street scuttlebutt or the rumor mill ~ get the straight answers from the professionals; just pick up your phone.
@gtarules1 College isnt always what its cracked up to be these days I here about and know college grads who get really prestigious degrees and go to Ivy league schools but end up in debt and without a job.
@gtarules1 I remember reading a story of a guy who graduated Harvard and enlisted as infantry in the USMC, he said it was his calling, and a few years back a genius child prodigy did the same as well. The Corps calls many.
@gtarules1 Maybe another Mcarther!? lol Has mastered the English langueage? and is in the Marine Corps and happens to be a officer! He is going somewhere lol
I listened to a Marine Recruiter. The important difference between the Army and the Marines, Quality vs Quantity. Your choice. Marines have the Quality of soldiers, well trained. The Army has the Quantity of the soldiers way more soldiers than the Marines. But we can't do it without each other. Every branch has its purpose. And that's what makes America so great.
@athleteman12 Each recruiting officer of each branch will have their biases. It's funny that you mention quality, when it's well renowned that the Army has better leadership and more schools than the Marine Corps. Not to mention, that the requirements are virtually identical upon joining any branch of the service. It's shameful that one would outright question the quality of others serving---for the same cause, I might add.
everybody talk shit about other branches and yes we need people as marines or as a soldier, but we need smart people also as an airman. The war is not solve it by bullets at all!!
"We wont just kill the bastards, we will cut out their living guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks" General George S Patton. Great man.
I love the fact that this targets College graduates, all these colleges are huge why would anyone in the militarty want to join it when they can get a job paying 2 X more?
@jdizzle3484 because they want to do something that other people wont do and make a sacrifice for their country dip shit..im doing 2 years of college and doing the marines. and i can attend college paid off after my service and still make 3X the amount of money now..

@Tuzzi223 a little bit of both.. the main role of Marine officer at the JO (Junior Officer) level, is to transmit those orders from senior officers to your SNCO's and NCO's who will then execute and carry out those orders. As far as writing orders, awards and making sure your Marines are being paid correctly, the administrative side of officership is unavoidable unfortunately lol.... hence the root office- in officer
@Rikuzano Officers are in the heat aswell.. But starting at Major, you'll see less and less combat, as you become to valuable to the Corps at that point..
@Tuzzi223 Be careful what you wish for because it might come true. You wanna see combat as an officer. Go Infantry. I got 4 combat tours and lots of OTW's and LIC's as a Marine. I'm retired now. Combat is something that you know you'll have to do one day in service of your country but don't wish for it. In the middle of a firefight, rounds impacting, explosions, the smell, heat and people yelling I bet you $20 and a bucket of shit, your mindset will change.
You always have the ones ( esp. liberals) who have never served in the military who think they know everything about military tactics and the way the military should be run and NEVER servered a day in their lives, like Nancy Pelosi, Harry Balls, and Osama Obama.... I hope we have a military veteran as our next president instead of this character who happened to become in charge of our nation's military and could care less what happens to them.....
@eng081194 His policy is exactly the same as GWB in Iraq the only difference is that Obama is a Democrat. A troop surge, paying off warlords a guaranteed withdrawal Bush did all of that in Iraq and just because the current CIC is "liberal" he doens't know what he is doing? FDR "liberal" sure knew what he was doing, and Ike "conservative and veteran" pulled us out of Korea.......what does it matter what party?
@eng081194 If you support your militairy, you WILL support your President! He may have not served his country, but he's doing it right now, as the President of the United States! What I do agree on with you is that a veteran as President knows when it's time to attack, and when it's time to retreat, all President Obama ever talks about is retreat, the job isn't finished yet, and he should let the US finish what they started.. It's called Honor, Courage & Commitment..
Cant wait to get that salute from my dad who will be a SgtMajor, and Im gonna cherish it too......cuz its the only time an SNCO will salute me as a butter bar :p
@WSHCaps00 False, SNCOs often will not salute butter bars as they have not earned their respect. If you demand a salute you are getting the respect of rank, but not leadership (and you are probably a cocky and shitty officer if you demand an E-9 salutes you if they don't). I was aboard MCRD with a recently commissioned LT from my OSO to get a medical exam and they all called him sir, but a few SNCOs did not salute and it did not bother him. A SDI did salute as we went past a platoon of recruits.
It should have bothered him. You'll always have a few SNCOs test how much they can get away with over a newbie LT.
Respect starts with the rank, those of us who have been Marine Officers know it's not enough for a young officer to get the job done. You earn the individual respect over and above the rank respect.
I didn't care if they liked me, but they were damn well going to respect me.
marsoc really doesn't get much action. They aren't part of socom, so all the jobs go straight down to army and navy specials. if you want to shoot people, then if i were you I'd enlist for infantry and volunteer for ISAF.
It's awesome. The Marines are just plain and simple. Kill, win get out. But the army is like, Kill, win, clean get out. I am enlisting into the Marines...
man in the Marines you finish your training and then you spend the next of your 2 miserable years pretending to be a janitor... come on do you want that???
For the most part. You tell other people what you want done and when, and let them figure out how to do it. And if you do something, you blame someone else.
@Rozzrocks666 no there are many different things to do as an officer in the marines. pilot air craft like the A/V-8B harrier or the F/A-18D super hornet or lead an infantry unit its more then just barking out orders all day long its not a desk job by no means
@BustaMonkey1234 I was a Marine for four years as an AAV crewman and Army Infantry for six years. Neither are better than the other, we each have a job to do and we are both the best at it. I hate people who say Marines or Army is better. I used to say rmy was better but now i see they are equal so dont say Marines are better because we arent but we Army Soldiers arent better either
@BustaMonkey1234 The Marines are the best shock force, but the Army does the long term sustaining. They have some smart guys going into their Officer corps, just from the men I've seen commission out of my college, but it might just be our college since the Army program has the same great rep.
@Topulis91 get a degree first of all, all officers in any branch must have a college degree. The you have to go to a recruiter and ask about becoming an officer. You go through 3 schools at the minimum: Officer Candidate school (standard among every branch), The Basic School (since every Marine is a rifleman primarily, you must learn how to lead riflemen anda a fire team, etc.), and then your specialty school(s) i.e. flight training for pilots (which actually is yet another set of schools.)
if i remember correctly topulis91, if u already have a degree, U WILL GET PAID to become an officer, even during officer candidate school when you're trying out, you will get paid. but dont let the pay motivate you. to become a Marine officer and make it through OCS, you have to want the title and the honor with every bit of your soul. unlike the other branches, you don't join for the money, you join for the honor!
@nwulphie43 These days the officer way is some of the best money you can make on a steady basis. Damn, If I'm right 0-4 pays more or as much as Sergeant Major. and those generals make 100k+
many have tried but only few survived, not everybody can do good for their country only a few and the brave ,build your confidence here and find out yourself whats behind in that title that keeps them moving on
not everybody can be good only a few, the best of the best, if you want the world to see you, join the marines, the US marines are very popular here in the philippines
this kinda pisses me off i dont want some kid from a good school bossing me around cuss thay may lead but have thay earned it by going to combat no thay earn it by going to school. its a good programe but it get used and marines get killed.
dude think of this in canadian army the sgts somtimes yell at the LT. if hes new. and the CWOs yell at the CPTs, in this army its all about experiance.CWO may b 2IC but he has the know how.
Makes me want to join up. Except I'm just barely too old. Oh well, I'll have to settle for Navy OCS. But, man... this makes me wish I had gone to college just a few years earlier.
Become an officer. Don't ever listen to your corporals or sergeants and have a cocky air of confidence about yourself because you graduated college, OCS, and TBS. You will know everything there is to know about everything. It doesn't matter that some of your Marines have already been overseas twice. You're smarter than them and you need to let them know that at all times even when you're reading your map wrong or incorrectly calling for fire. Former. infantry Sgt.
i didnt think it was possible to be sarcastic in text. you did a pretty damn good job at knocking officers. i dont appreciate a grunt speaking ill of officers, yeah some might be ads you say, but not all. damn right officers know what they are doing. my father wouldnt ask his marines to one damn thing he wouldnt do. maybe you never had a good CO, maybe that, but dont knock them all because you are some pissed grunt. Chesty Puller and Nathaniel C. Fick- tell them what you think of officers
Gonna be commissioned officer as well but Annapolis naval academy first though. Mainly wanted to become a naval/marine aviator. Please bring back the F-14! I understand about the money issue but they should upgrade it or turn it into a Valkryie lol.
don't get me wrong my ssgt. and my gunny are some of the best leaders i've ever met; i'm just against the blanket statement that all officers are over rated.
well I'm pretty sure marine enlisted would do just fine without officers. I do like officers don't get me wrong. I just don't think they do so much to we should bow at there feet like lap dogs
I'm leaving for OCS this summer. I can't wait to one day join the fleet.

Respect starts with the rank, those of us who have been Marine Officers know it's not enough for a young officer to get the job done. You earn the individual respect over and above the rank respect.
I didn't care if they liked me, but they were damn well going to respect me.

Can marine Officers participate in Covert Ops in MARSOC?
MP7A3 1 year ago
marsoc really doesn't get much action. They aren't part of socom, so all the jobs go straight down to army and navy specials. if you want to shoot people, then if i were you I'd enlist for infantry and volunteer for ISAF.

Do Marine Officers participate in covert ops in MARSOC?

It's awesome. The Marines are just plain and simple. Kill, win get out. But the army is like, Kill, win, clean get out. I am enlisting into the Marines...

WTF do you exactly do if your an officer? Just tell people what do to on base or something?
Rozzrocks666 2 years ago
@Rozzrocks666
For the most part. You tell other people what you want done and when, and let them figure out how to do it. And if you do something, you blame someone else.
NDLlama1 2 years ago
@Rozzrocks666 Officers fill leadership positions. Some do administrative jobs, some lead in combat, some direct tech teams, ect.
Bushwacked487 2 years ago
Lead Marines into combat. That's what.
surfer243v 2 years ago 3
@Rozzrocks666 no there are many different things to do as an officer in the marines. pilot air craft like the A/V-8B harrier or the F/A-18D super hornet or lead an infantry unit its more then just barking out orders all day long its not a desk job by no means

but why settle for less? marines are the best of the best, america wants the best of the best. the army is great, but no as great as the marines.
BustaMonkey1234 2 years ago 42
@BustaMonkey1234 I was a Marine for four years as an AAV crewman and Army Infantry for six years. Neither are better than the other, we each have a job to do and we are both the best at it. I hate people who say Marines or Army is better. I used to say rmy was better but now i see they are equal so dont say Marines are better because we arent but we Army Soldiers arent better either
Snako85 1 year ago
@BustaMonkey1234 The Marines are the best shock force, but the Army does the long term sustaining. They have some smart guys going into their Officer corps, just from the men I've seen commission out of my college, but it might just be our college since the Army program has the same great rep.

how much do you have to pay for join the marines officer?
Topulis91 2 years ago
@Topulis91 The Marine Corps pays you.
Bushwacked487 2 years ago
@Topulis91 get a degree first of all, all officers in any branch must have a college degree. The you have to go to a recruiter and ask about becoming an officer. You go through 3 schools at the minimum: Officer Candidate school (standard among every branch), The Basic School (since every Marine is a rifleman primarily, you must learn how to lead riflemen anda a fire team, etc.), and then your specialty school(s) i.e. flight training for pilots (which actually is yet another set of schools.)
Imrickjames20166 2 years ago
if i remember correctly topulis91, if u already have a degree, U WILL GET PAID to become an officer, even during officer candidate school when you're trying out, you will get paid. but dont let the pay motivate you. to become a Marine officer and make it through OCS, you have to want the title and the honor with every bit of your soul. unlike the other branches, you don't join for the money, you join for the honor!
nwulphie43 1 year ago 41
@nwulphie43 lol i don't think anybody joins a military branch for the money.
EsAychAyeTee 1 year ago
@nwulphie43 These days the officer way is some of the best money you can make on a steady basis. Damn, If I'm right 0-4 pays more or as much as Sergeant Major. and those generals make 100k+
pmf180 11 months ago
@nwulphie43 You get paid as an E-5 as an officer candidate during training, which i believe now is about 1900/month.

tiewithoutfly 2 years ago 4
Become an officer. Don't ever listen to your corporals or sergeants and have a cocky air of confidence about yourself because you graduated college, OCS, and TBS. You will know everything there is to know about everything. It doesn't matter that some of your Marines have already been overseas twice. You're smarter than them and you need to let them know that at all times even when you're reading your map wrong or incorrectly calling for fire. Former. infantry Sgt.
infantryman0311 2 years ago 3
i didnt think it was possible to be sarcastic in text. you did a pretty damn good job at knocking officers. i dont appreciate a grunt speaking ill of officers, yeah some might be ads you say, but not all. damn right officers know what they are doing. my father wouldnt ask his marines to one damn thing he wouldnt do. maybe you never had a good CO, maybe that, but dont knock them all because you are some pissed grunt. Chesty Puller and Nathaniel C. Fick- tell them what you think of officers
