I'm learning German before I go for an exchange year and I know for a fact that Germans WILL critique my German. It's just part of their culture to tell you the right way so you can get better so I'm looking forward to making mistakes next year
@oledys Learning a language is hard enough. Hope you got a boost. Talk to yourself in the language you are learning whenever you can. Carry a small dictionary in your pocket.
@leparks awww thanks for the advice :D Im trying to improve my english's speaking, Im good at writing and reading but I have some problems with talk, for example the fear to make mistakes and so on, but I think you're right I have to make the fear disappear! =) thanks again ñ_ñ
everybody does---even people who have been here for 20 years. So what?
When I speak French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Russian, Italian and Dutch I make lots of mistakes, but they understand me. They're glad I made the effort to learn their language. Loren
thank you for your video... you really have a lot of experience with learning languages, and it's great to acknowledge fears when we venture out into a new language. when we take risks, we really learn!! i'm learning Korean, and i find it inspiring that you are still learning at your age.
Google "Ferd'nand". These are comics without words. First I have he students describe what's happening and practice structures such as the subjunctive. Then I have them role play the situation. The result has been very good.
I hope this will cure my chronic inability to speak German despite having studied it for eight years;) The buzzer kind of made me feel like a Pavlovian dog, though;D Thank you ever so much for your attempt to make people more proficient in foreign languages - it's so easy especially for native English speakers to think they'll never need another language.
All you have is stage fright. You're afraid of being laughed at or criticized. You have a lot more German than I, but I barge ahead and get along fine. . Restaurant people in Germany and most of the younger people speak English.
. You must have a terrible fear of being criticized. You ought to get over that. They're flattered you took the effort to learn their language. Do you laugh at foreigners here who have accents and make errors? I doubt it. Loren
I used to talkk to myself and carry a pocket dictionary in my shirt pocket. When I didn't know a word, I looked it up. I often had to look up the same word several times but it finally stuck. Now I travel to French, German and Spanish speaking countries without a dictionary, but I do need one in Germany at times.
With over 120 trips to western Europe I've used my language skills a lot and it has provided great satisfaction.
you're a cool guy :)
