Jacques, I simply wanted to say that I appreciate the way you play Yancey Special. I admire your having been able to find those difficult chords and their positions. But we both now how difficult it is to evoke that special Yancey sound. What does it consist of? Sheer magic.
I do not disagree with you at all. As you may have noticed, as I was totally immersed in the blues, I suddenly asked our bass player to sing the blues ! As a conseuqence I missed one chorus ! Thank you for the posting.

Hi folks, this piece of piano was responsible for me starting to play piano. I was told it was a 'yancey special' so I went forth in search of the recording only to find it's actually by meade lux lewis in honour of Jimmy yancey, but by then i'd discovered Jimmy and nothing else comes close!
You are absolutely right jokehalos. Thank you for posting. Jimmy Yancey used to say two things: 1) I know nobody plays like me and 2) I am not a blues pianist, I am an ethnologist of the blues.

Yancey was great!!! But... that's Tox Drohar playing the drums! He played with Lee Konitz around 1957, with Don Ferrara, Ronnie Ball and Peter Ind!
