@chapusa100 Actually, Chinese word for 漢字 is hanzi, Japanese pronounce it as kanji. Same set of characters, different pronunciation. Also, the modern simplified Chinese characters used for this word are 汉字.
Yeah, great! That is how Chinese invented the kanji,in fact it is 甲骨文 which is the first writing system by the Chinese, when you see 甲骨文,it is more obvious that the words are a kinda drawing of the objects it describles. Then people feel it too difficult to write,so they try to get some reform of the writing, after several times of changings, these words have become the way we look now.
Its fascinating how the ancient Chinese scribes would have first interpreted and developed their symbols. Its thousands of years old, amazing and beutiful that it still exists today too. It goes to show how they go preserve their culture and traditions. =)
Fantastic......I aunderstand that the Chinese call this "Hanzim"....

Hmm...so the basic shape of the character can give you a clue about what it means.
But what were those other little characters under the big ones?
TheDevilbuster 2 years ago
They are "hiragana" and "katakana" and both are phonetic as opposed to "kanji" which is pictographic.

@TheDevilbuster Furigana, so we learnt in Japanese. It's small hiragana to teach you how to pronounce kanji.
