After watching your video, I really regret dropping my recorder 4 years ago when I moved to a new place. Keep up the fun, and don't be affected by those people who call the recorder a toy.
I am only 10 but I have to say, I wish I could play like you! I can play complicated ones but not as well as you can play them!! Oh and what do you mean by Not very polished :) you are one of the best recorder players I have ever heard! well done!
I learned how to play recorder today on my sister's first act discovery book.. I mean the book was pretty easy because I have music experience but not on treble clef so it was hard for me to remember the names of the notes. But that was awesome. How long have you been playing?
I have a cheap plastic alto recorder, which annoys me because the high register (high F and up) are all extremely sharp. And I have to perform on it. Lucky you, you've got a wooden one.
The alto recorder I used was a Mollenhauer. Not cheap :) If you are just starting out I would recommend one of the plastic altos. They actually sound pretty decent and are good for learning. Of course they lack the resonance of a good recorder but until you have breath control it will not matter. I also recommend lessons - bad habits will make it difficult to ever learn and I am sure your wife would agree :)
sorry can you tell me more details about the piece composer, name etc.... flawless performance. I rather prefer Moeck, but Mollenhauer is my second choice.
Just listened again, wow, the wife's impressed too (she's a piano teacher). What make of recorder do you have cause I wouldn't mind one (then again it will be a long time before I'll be playing it half as well as you)
This is great, well done !

Well played - I try to introduce English folk-songs and hymns on an ABS tenor English-flute.

Yeah I hate it when people say the recorder is a toy it makes the most beautiful music
frostie680 4 years ago 8
People who say the recorder is a "toy" are not musicians at all.
People just think it is a toy because it is typically the first instrument they introduce in schools to about 5th or th graders.
Recorders sound beautiful when played good such as the playing in this video. :)

Can you believe that i've heard musicians say that the recorder is a toy, that one should play a "real" instrument??

Commendable! I hate when people say the recorder is not a real instrument. Well done, dude. XD

You should post this as a video response to one of my Telemann videos so my viewers can find this nice video, too.

Thanks. To be honest I have not played in several years. This was recorded in 2000 and at that time I had been playing for a couple of years.

I agree. There are some nice sounding plastic recorders and there are some terrible wood ones :)
