your shuffling your foot on the ground. that slideing noise means that your losing momentum and never leaving the ground. You do plant your left leg decently though which allows you to utilize some of the momentum from your legs. your legs are also in great positioning to explode at the last stages of your throw. you landed with your left leg at a ninety degree angle to where it started from so that you dont have to turn it. decent glide
You need to stay down until the very last second of the slide. Once you get into the power position(also known as the standing position) You need to stay down and turn your hips and feet to the front. After you have to block(pull your left hand towards you like you are pulling something and follow through with the hand holding the shot put. Also make sure you have your right elbow up. That should make your throw better.
i really need help with my glide. im a sophomore and i hit 37-38 using the shuffle. i only hit 35 with the glide. i dont know what im doing wrong. any suggestions?

nah as a freshman i hit 41' 6'' 28 is crap... 8th i was hitting like 40 i think... ull be fine tho dude dont worry... master the technique and as a sr ull prolly be in like 44' range i would think depending how much u practice
at the back of the circle you may want to bunch yourself a little tighter, and keep the shot over the right foot and raise your hips a little more, my coach told me to do this, and the shot feels lighter then.
I turned 18 a few months ago. I barely started throwing in January 2008. I used to be a runner. My personal best in shot put was around 47 in high school with 12 lbs, and I threw discus around 120 with a high school 1.6k disc. I can now throw farther than that with a college 2k discus. I haven't worked on shot as much because I think I am going to focus on discus more in college. I imagine I could throw around 34-36 with a 16 lb shot put. I use a spin now instead of the glide.
Thanks. I corrected my form before the state meet, where I didn't yank my left arm in right at the start of the pop...left arm is supposed to stay out until you start to turn and deliver the shot. I currently spin to try to get ready for college...
Soft ass.

That was a........Unique throw. You dragged your foot all the way across the ring, and ended outside the ring.

bigrileymonster 2 years ago
you need to fall in more there was a little more of a hop there and you can see the shot stop a little as you land in your power position
mann0311 2 years ago
that sucked im not gonna try fixing it
magiata93 2 years ago
Relax left arm, you have it high up and its supposed to be relaxed until you hit power position to prepare for block.

get your right foot under you more. also, hang your left hand, so you can wrench it around, adding torque to your hips.

Robbie075 2 years ago
do you have a video of yourself doing it? but stop using the shuffle, its garbage.
mhmimerich 2 years ago
shuffle = worst mistake you can make for any form throw.... do the glide... spin if you want but everyone should start with the glide
TLO421 2 years ago
@TLO421 actually you should start with the power throw which is the basis of all the other techniques
SaltineCrackaBetch 1 year ago
@SaltineCrackaBetch well yeah definitely... i meant after that but if that wasnt implied then most definitely ur right
TLO421 1 year ago
I use the glide, out door right now, junior and im hitting 47'4" with it, good technique to master.
Adiokid60 2 years ago
im a freshman, my PR is 34'6
and that was just "pushing" (when you stand in the front of the circle and windup and throw)
im learning glide now and am hitting about 31-33 everytime

Treason85 2 years ago
me too. my pr is 45'8 indoor but i stepped outdoor and just threw 39'11.
llennroy 2 years ago
damn, why the big dropoff? I've never thrown indoor so I have no idea what the difference is other than possibly a softer material shot.
bigjoshscherer 2 years ago
it's bigger and softer as a result. the outdoor shot is really small.
llennroy 2 years ago
wow i threw 35'4" inside and 40'8"outside Its the beginning of the season outside so i might get better plus its really cold. :| OH I AM A FRESHMAN
