I know it doesn't sound exactly like a woman (sounds nicer:p) but I can hardly imagine him being true as long as I can't find a video where you can SEE him sing
The better music conservatories of the 18th century gave a comprehensive education that included not only all aspects of music but also languages and general studies, very much as does the Vienna Boy's Choir and the newer Comar Boys' Choir School in Alsace today.
Assessments of vocal success were not so much harsh as realistic. Statisically, a few were great, many were average, and a few needed to find other pursuits than singing.
id the pedagogy included the basics such as math, English, etc and did they study the theory of music and the music itself more than the basics? I know they expected perfection but I was unaware they were so harsh in their assessments!
The depiction of the culture of the castrati, the musical instuments and the voice, takes you back as if you were there. Very thought out. Thanks for another intriguing and rare video
The 3 musicians at the court of Ferdinando d'Medici included the castrato singer. The 2 others might have been also, for (contrary to what some "historians" have said), if one's voice was not good enough, he was NOT "thrown to the wolves." The good conservatories gave them broad educations including instruments and pedagogy. They could perform & teach. Like all humans, some did have difficult lives.
This is really kinda something, thankyou.

this voice is female, the only known recording of a castrato is of Moreschi in Rome dated 1902 that I am aware of

No, the voice is neither female nor castrato.
If you would like to learn about Radu, just read some about him on the web.
