Marsalis thought he had some sh@t until Hoots laid down a fat dose of "flap your wings together, make some spitting sounds for about 3 seconds, then clumsily lope into the air and peace out with a 3-note flourish."
love this guy, but this video won't play for me so haven't heard it yet! No problems with any others, and the You Tube help seems as good as a chocolat teapot - any advice?

Hoots rocks! He's my favorite muppet on Sesame Street. While the show's being dumbed down in its current state, it's nice that he still makes some cameos.
jazz music sucks. its all about actually playing music and playing from your soul - it should be about simple repetitive beats and stupid incoherent lyrics
shut the fuck up, what the hell do u listen to, jazz is a art that only intellectual people can understand, same with classical, thats why classical music has been around for over 500 years, and jazz for a hundred years, try your shitty songs see how long they last, 2-4 years maybe?
You'd figure such a seasoned "intellectual" such as yourself would be capable of separating a five line comment into more than one sentence, as well as recognizing basic blatant sarcasm.
I'm not a professional trumpet player, but I believe it has a lot to do with using all half-valves, and more importantly, lots of practice with using lip slurs and false tones. The more your embouchure is in shape, the easier it is to do sweet stuff like that. Lungs are important too.
I take it you never listened to Wynton's "Standard Time" albums, "Black Codes (From The Undgeround," "J Mood," or "Marciac Suite" then huh?
To say what you said about Wynton clearly shows that you have no understanding and haven't done enough listening to form those idiotic opinions. It would be different if you have actually heard his music, but you haven't.
There are alot better jazz trumpeters than Wynton no question about it, but listen before you speak.
I guess you never heard Wynton's albums "Black Codes (From The Underground)," "J Mood," "Marciac Suite," or any of his "Standard Time" albums, huh?
To me is sounds like you have something against Wynton. Let me just say you're wrong in every way. Wynton is a fantastic trumpeter, but he's certainly not a Clifford Brown, Freddie Hubbard, Miles Davis, Donald Byrd, or Woody Shaw, but don't discount his playing by saying he doesn't have heart, because he does.
I remember when this was originally aired. Kevin Clash was the man even THEN. Hoots voice was very similar to Goriddle Gorilla. This was real cool at the time.
Nice! Cool to see a Hoots clip- and cool to see the incredible trumpeter Wynton Marsalis!!! :-) (And really neat to see Hoots fly! I think that's the first time I've ever seen that)
Seems like Hoots the Owl and Wynton Marsalis did a great job by playing songs together, don't you think?

Hoots is terrific! His playing might sound like Lester Young, but he looks like he was modelled after Coleman Hawkins!
Now does anyone know about that rare LP he did with Zoot from "The Muppet Show"?
efil4own1 5 years ago
Wow. I was way more into Hoots's licks. Wynton's playing was just so contrived and soul-less.
