The only way to sterilize any piercing material is to autoclave it. Piercing with an "earing" tears and scars your ears... You have every right to pierce yourself with a dirty shity earing but giving out wrong information and piercing your friends is no. I've experience fucked up ear piercings with cheap ass earrings. Horrible idea. Learned though. Pierced my tongue too. That was the best piercing I did. Lasted for 2 years. Took it out during braces and got it pierced (pro). But anyway, yeah never use cheap ass earrings. Worst punish ever.

Piercing guns are more likely to get infected than needles.

croggo9, your cartilage is a very stiff and difficult part to pierce. It would help if the end of the earring was sharp. But it really just takes alot of force to get it completely through. Try putting a little more force into it, but don't forget to maintain your accuracy.

I doubt any of you are actually trained in body piercing. I am trained in body piercing and can't stress enough how dangerous it is to DIY at home. However, Paurti (admitting he isn't a professional) is as good as you can get without being a qualified. He's smart enough to know what equipment is best to use however I would NOT recommend using jewellery unless it's brand new and came in a pre-sterilized pouch. Needles are a lot easier, safer and hurt LESS.

uhm, the earing wasn't exactly blunt. The end was extremely sharp for some reason. I don't even know where i got that earring. But yeah, i've pierced my ears with blunt earrings, and they went through fine...Just make sure you apply a good amount of pressure so that it goes through in one shot...
