  • Always been fascinated by Doc and his trumpet - even back in the Johnny Carson days - then heard him with Mariachi Cobre in Milwaukee - WOW! And his love for the Latin music - and then teaming up with Guttierez on guitar. GOD GIVEN TALENT TO BOTH ! Would love to see them both if they perform in San Miguel de Allende or wherever - would LOVE to know where or when ? I think he said he lives in San Miguel ?

  • @purachela1 Yes, I believe he lives in San Miguel de Allende, and performs there regularly.

Check out his tour schedule for the next several months on his website.

  • this is what i want to do for the rest of my life :)

  • I saw this group perform on Monday(1/24/11) in CT. --They sound great and Doc still plays a mean horn. Guttierez on guitar and Bishart on violin also fantastic. If you get a chance to see them -go!

  • @fhr331 I wanted to see them that night, but I couldn't. I hope Doc comes around again.

  • very good. often similar to his early 70's, 'california,' sound.

  • WOWWWWWW.......YO CONOZCO AL SR GIL GUTIERREZ Y LES PUEDO DECIR QUE ES UN TIPAZO, AÑADIDO YA A SU GRAN TALENTO COMO MUSICO!!....SALUDOS DESDE OAXACA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great music. Gil and Doc work well together

  • hi there , thanks for this great slide show, can you send me some photos for publiciti and how we can promote this?...saludos gil

  • @gilgutierrezmusic Yes, I replied to you in a private message.

  • This is the great Doc Severinsen with Mexican guitarist Gil Gutierrez presenting the band "El Ritmo de la Vida" with violinist Charlie Bisharat, percussionist Jimmy Branly, and bassist Kevin THomas.

  • @gilgutierrezmusic I was very impressed with your virtuosity on the guitar. You are very talented (but you know that ;-) and I listen to your music often. I was very happy with these photos I took of Doc and your group during this concert at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley, California, on June 11, 2010. They made for a nice slideshow on YouTube. Anything I can do to advertise your group, I'm happy to do it.

  • beautiful song...

  • doc severinsen dows not play a getzen anymore, he plays a shires trumpet, if im not mistaken u can go to shires site at seshires.com and he is one of the listed under artists

  • i The horn he was playing in '85 was probably the Getzen model named for him I got mine in '77 and still treasure it today. Incredible horn, then endorsed by the best ever.....

  • @caseybellestarr I play a 1975 Getzen Eterna Severinsen 900S. It is now 35 years old, but looks brand new--not a ding nor worn plating anywhere And the valves are still silky smooth. The leadpipe was beginning to show some minor pitting (from the previous owner) and so I replaced it, but with a Getzen reverse leadpipe. Wow!! That made a huge difference; the pitch is now centered like a magnet...not quite as bright though. I love it!!!

  • Doc at 82? AMAZING! I can't believe what a beautiful sound, range and musicality he still has. Trumpet is a brutally physical instrument to play period;but to play like Doc is almost beyond belief.

Do you have any idea what kind of horn Doc was playing at this gig?

  • @65strad I was not able to tell what kind of horn he was playing. I was so excited to get his autograph that I completely forgot to ask. He autographed the CD I purchased at the concert PLUS he autographed two 8 X 12 close-up photos I brought with me that I took of him back in 1985 while he was performing with Xebron. He said, "Now what kind of horn was that?" He couldn't remember.

I did notice, however, that his horn had received lots of attention in all the right places, i.e., soldering.

  • @65strad @65strad After a little super sleuthing I learned that Doc is playing a Doc Severinsen Destino III, which is now being manufactured by S. E. Shires Custom Trumpets.

I compared my photos to those on the S. E. Shires website, and the trumpet is the same. However, Doc's live performance is not with a brand new, shiny trumpet.

  • Thanks for posting this video! One of my heroes still playing strong after all these years. God bless Doc!!!
