  • Just needed the thought of the path and not the destination.

    Thanx

  • How is it possible to listen to this song 40 years ago? It was released in 1991...?

  • My head still hurts from car dancing to this tune..back in the day. :-)

  • Ma vie en une chanson!!!!!!!!

  • One of my least favourite Cochrane songs and still, not a bad song.

  • i like this video better but unfortunately rascal flatts version is better

  • This version kills Rascal Flatts.. much more authentic and country sound..

  • A WORLDWIDE CLASSIC! It always will be!

  • I miss when MTV was about music.

  • Cochrane rocks.

  • amazing harmonica, tom chochrane is up there with Neil Young and Bobby D

  • On the last 200 miles of a 5000+ trip this song came on the Radio in Portland, OR....Made me feel soooo good I almost turned the car around to start the trip over again...This is the BEST driving song I ever heard..(for today at least).........

  • Oooooooohhhh Yeeeaaah!!!!!

  • This is one song that no cover band will ever beat. It is flawless

The rascal flats version sucks balls

  • 246 people must like the rascal flatts version.

  • Tom Cochrane is a hero

  • the best road trip song

  • This version is awesome but Rascal Flatts made it an even bigger hit. Rascal Flatts is awesome. IF you try playing both versions together with the right timing it sounds awesome. Especially with the guitar and harmonica solos together.

  • @jedi8246 Rascal Flatts very whiney.... This is Tom's Song.!!

  • Tom Cochrane rocks. Originality counts for everything. Rascall Flatts isn't fit to shine Tom Cochrane's shoes.

  • @zylaxis I agree. The original is the best. Most covers suck anyway.

  • This song reminds me of my senior as we were all about ready to graduate and to be released upon the world....Talk about a perfect song to have running through your head as you are about to hit the highway of life and spread out on a journey of discovery! <---a little corny.....but I'm a child of the 80's hehe. Its to be expected

  • 100% badass and best road trip song ever!

  • love it

  • this song was really cool when you get see them perform life

  • yup long distance song love it

  • This version rocks. The Rascall Flatts version falls "Flat"

  • @CreativeGuy lol...like we didn't see that one comming :P

  • still kicks ass, and always will. great track and artist.

  • This SO much better thatn Rascal Flatts. I especially like the part starting at 3:04. That is the point I want to mash the throttle in my Bugatti Veyron, (I soon hope to own), accelerating to "warp speed". This is the BEST song to listen to while running a Veyron flat-out!

  • @SLRMcLaren1 or my BRG Elise :)

  • the rascal flatts version is way better

  • This is the ONLY version of the song that matters. This song was pure magic when it came out, and it STILL is. People can cover this until their hearts are content, but none will compare to this moment captured on tape in the 90s.

  • Scoot over, I'm driven!

  • oldy but goody. this is one song i grew up listening to back in the early 90's

  • i love the song and his voice, but the way he sings it... ehhhh... :/

  • lets ride way cool song

  • LOVE this so much better than RF!!

  • wow downloaded this version of the song a year ago... and always thought it was by rascal flatts... untill i searched for their video version and was a bit surprised by what i heard.. i didnt dislike but was more familiar with this version,

  • soo much more passion when sung!!!!!

  • tone it down a bit. in am canadian. this is some of the best talent to come out of canada ever. check out red rider.. god bless canada and the united states

  • Tom Cochrane > Rascal Flats.

    Cochrane FTW!

  • yes sir....

  • I like Rascall Flatts more

  • wish I was on the Highway going somewhere, ANYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Regardless of who sang what and first...the message is clear....We have all at sometime in our lives..taveled that highway with someone special...someone who even today we close our eyes and dream about....How I would love to drive that highway again!!!

  • cheeseh?

  • :48

  • rascal flatts fucked up this song this song fucking rocks but rascal flatts fucked it uo

  • Something seems off about this audio track. Sounds flatter than it really is.

  • life has bumps..... life is long.... life is curvy... and if u play your cards right your life can be long and wonderful live life too the fullest!!! live like your going too die the next day

  • I pray for PEACE from death...Everyday

  • That was awesome loved it

  • Life is a highway with many, many detours. You enbark with one destination in mind and end up somewhere you never imagined, but looking back, you understand the trip was meant for you. For some *&^%$ reason.

  • i wanna ride it all night long,, :D

  • life sure is a highway. it could take you to anway the highway takes you

  • I love the message of this song children! And life really is a highway, and sometimes there are going to be bumps in the road and you'll have to face it and be grateful for how far you have traveled since you've started! I used to listen to this music when I was forty years younger!

  • yeah life is a highway~

  • awesome

  • Those Jeans were fucking popular in those days because of him and Bon Jovi (keep the faith).

  • this is the original right, the rascall flatts version sucks imo

  • This song kicks ass, but you can't knock the Rascal Flatts version, because its so different that it's like a different song.

This one is much better though. :)

  • love when he sings the chorus

  • perfect traveling song

  • Hell yeah, before annoying cell phone and text... this was real music

  • The original beats any version.

    This song rules!!!

  • If they had changed it, modified it, but all they did was a bad version of the original version!

  • One of the top Canadian rock songs of all time, and one of my favourites...I think an equal version to Springsteen's 'Thunder Road" or "Born to Run" of the joys of hitting the road with your guitar and girl...

  • best harmonica solo ever 2:35 - 2:53

  • Reminds me of my good old town of elliot lake. Man i will never forget those days.

  • awesome.

  • life is higway of course

  • I love this song !!

  • best song ever

  • wow this song reminds me of my childhood big time!... i remember i used to scream singing this in my moms car one summer... i must have been 6 or 7 years old

  • I thought that voice sounded familiar. I love this song but didn't realize he was with Red Rider!

  • This reminds me of my childhood playing baseball with rocks!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i love this song! brings back memories of moving from one town to another using my dad's semi truck!

  • Love the opening scene where it shows a black scorpion. Thank You.

  • coooooooooooooooooooooooooooollllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

  • this song is awesome. its different than the rascall flatts song, in a good way. its one of the best song ever cuz

    LIFE IS A HIGHWAY!

  • Best song ever

  • Reminds me of an old Marlboro Cigarette Commercial! lol

  • Your children may or may not no what a tape is............isn't that wierd?

  • no different then me not actually knowing what an eight track was??? i was born in 1980 but i had NO idea what one even looked like until i was a teen.

  • this is such a classic. reminds me of me looking up to my brother growing up. he played this all the time on his badass tape player and guitar.

  • he looks like Larry Bird lol.

anyway, I can't decide which ones better, if it's Rascal Flatts or Tom Cochrane

  • Many good memories by listening to this song <3

  • This is a fantastic song!:D

  • By far way better than the RF version.

  • being original always :D

  • I totally agree

  • Great song! It associates me on driving long roads, since I am a road geek !

  • 5 stars

  • i'm trying to figure out whose version is better but Tom rocks

  • Always Tom, I think Rascal Flatts have a whiny twang. This is Tom's song

  • ROCK ON TOM!!!!!! this song rockkks

  • i love it

  • LoVe It :D:D loooooooooooool

  • This song is genius. It reminds me of the best times ever.

  • they played this at my friends boyfriends funeral on wednesday! he was a big farmer and one of those ppl who like anyone no matter who you were! he had alot of friends! were all going to miss ya

    R.I.P. Cowboy

  • I think I just got Tom-Rolled.. if there is such a thing..

  • takes me back to 6th grade

  • Tom Cochrane is bloody good singer. Awesom voice. Very talented.

  • Long live Tom Cochrane! This is his one and only "Life is a highway" ROCK N' ROLL!!!

  • Best long distance driving song.

  • @ComplexedSociety true, lol

  • @ComplexedSociety Yeah... for about 4 and a half minutes of the trip anyway.

  • LET'S PUT A SMILE ON THAT FACE

  • He is from Moose Jaw Saskatchewan

  • Does anyone know, where in Canada he is from, Imay have known him many, many years ago.

  • I think he was from Manitoba somewhere.

  • i like this one better

  • This guy is a legend Rascal Flatts is pretty good but this one this one Is Legend

  • The remakes on Cars and Rsscal Flats got nothin' on Tommy. They even left out the harmonica at the start. As usual nothin' beats the original.

  • hell yea!, and this comes from a 15 year old, nothin better than the classics

  • this song owns!

  • I think Rascal Flatt's is better. But that's my opinion.

  • Such a great tune.

I remember when this first song came out, I bought it and "Just Another Day" by Jon Secada as singles on cassette tapes. I told my friends "These are songs that will still be awesome 20 years from now..."

So far, both Jon and Tom are holding up. I don't think anything will change in the next few years to prove this wrong.

  • wow thank you

  • Amazing song...fast, fun, makes me instantly happy...you gotta love it!!!

  • Finally found the name of this song

  • i love this song sooooo much woo wooo xxxxxxxxx

  • I love this song, and Tom Cochrane (originator and writer!) does the best version!!! Rascall Flatts is ok but its flat sounding next to this one!

  • DITTO! The Original is the Best!

My friend Donnie & I used to use this as a Road Trip SOng along with Black Gold by Soul Asylum. (Let's fill up the Tank and go for a Ride)

  • Yes, great song!!

  • Love this song!

  • I just listened to the Rascal Flatts version, and they did a good job music-wise, but Tom's voice sounds a lot better.

  • No one does it better than Tom Cochrane always was the best.

  • I like this version the best

  • I gotta say though, at least Rascal Flatts didnt F it up. They pretty much play it note for note. I really hate when bands play a classic and "add" their own "style" to it....and one more song to add to the driving list...Magic Carpet Ride...Steppenwolf

  • Cool, reminds me of my childhood when this was topping the charts.

  • This is by far the best version. Man I feel old, that songs that came out while I was a teen are being remade.

  • Best version, period.

  • Damn right. The others can't even compare to this version.

  • i lvoe this song

  • call me crazy but i think tom is sexy as hell!!!!!mmmmmmmmmmm yummy

  • Gotta love this song ;) I kept playing it throught my iPod speakers during my motorhome holiday, and my dad almost died due to the irony XD

  • Bugatti Veyron-flat out, This is the song I want playing on the $30,000 radio running 253 m.p.h.

  • and when are you going to do that? lol

  • Top 5 songs to play on the highway (written in 2 min 16 secs):

    - this one of course

    - Holiday Road - L Buckingham

    - Unchained - Van Halen

    - You've Got Another Thing Comin' - Judas Priest

    - Devolution Workin' Man's Blues - The Alarm

  • Dont forget

    HighWay Star-deep purple

  • And Route 66 - Rolling Stones

  • a classic, why wouldn't Disney want it for their Cars movie.

  • whos the original? like who released it? i knew rf didnt cuz when i first listened to thtat my ears started bleeding

  • This guy - Tom Cochrane - is the original. He wrote and performed this song and I'm pretty sure it came out in 1991.

  • Yeah - 1991 :)

  • I like rascle flats version better.

  • this is a great song and I really like rascal flatts version too

  • Best song to listen to during long driving trips.

  • Not doubt this version (original) is much better, love the 90's,viva Tom Cochrane!

  • Always been a favorite of mine!!!

  • I never tire of this song.

  • Oh I really LOVE this song but i think the cover (rascall flatts) is better

  • you must think the sound of cats drowning is music to the ears if you think the rascal flats version cover is better

  • This version is so much better. I feel how good my life has been when I listen to Tom Cochrane!

  • The RF cover is so incredibly bad. Its as bad as Britney Spears trying to cover a Whitney Houston or Celine Dion song.

  • Does any one else love that harmonica?

  • thks version is so much better than rascal flatts

  • love this song....and Iam only 15 years old its the best!!

  • a classic of the 90's.....great song!!!!!!! this song makes our days happier

  • if more people listend to songs liek this, the world would be a better place

  • This song is great. Tom,in this video,is the king of person you can imagine taking a trip on a highway, and rough'en it. Rascal Flatts idea of rough'en it is most likely drinking a latte in LA from a non-brand name shop.

  • anytime this is on the radio it puts me in a good mood

  • best song ever
