Vera was more believable than Ferguson. In true life, Ferguson either would have been murdered by the inmates, especially in a male prison,or, she would have ended up in Australia's version of Broadmoor, because she has sociopathic ;(formally psychopathic) tendencies. Vera was a sad, lonely, quite vulnerable social misfit just outside normal boundaries of society,a harsh childhood, where the only place she had any authority was in prison. In fact she was a prisoner more than the inmates themselves.
@DaveyC95 You have it nailed right on the head. :) At times, although Vera could and did go overboard quite a bit, I did kind of feel sorry for her. That doesn't qualify her to do the things she did as a screw, but at the very least, she wasn't totally vicious.
@AlbieGray Thank you, She was quite twisted early on, especially gloating to Bea about not being able to go to her own daughters funeral, and later when Bea had amnesia, reminding her how she died and that she killed her husband..That could have pushed her straight over the edge into a Psychiatric Unit...Vera could be her own worst enemy sometimes, but I did feel some empathy for her, unlike Ferguson who was truly evil and deserved no pity
vera just liked to see the look on the prisoners faces when they fight amongest themselves, she likes to see chaos amongst the women, but she never tried to kill anyone or have people beaten up.
In love this scene

@DaveyC95 That is true. Ferguson was wicked beyond belief. She asked for what she ended up getting.

The Freak was better than Vera.

Yeah, Vera is a mini version of the Freak. Ferguson is much darker, more evil and more devious.

Vera was more real, more true and more vulnerable
