  • This was like listening to an entire orchestra... But it was one man. Liked and faved.

  • Evan rocks! He has taken the classic method to a new level and brought duo style to the commoners! Thanks Evan

  • i just pee'd a little.

  • He used to play this at the Golden Horseshoe at Disneyland. I saw him at a coffee house on Highland in LA many years ago. Asked him if he taught. I had the privilege of taking lessons from this guy. Brilliant musician. Not only a great mandolinist/musician, but a superb teacher and a hell of a nice guy.. He has a degree in violin performance from Occidental. He said his parents shit when he only wanted to play mandolin after that! Get his first couple of CDs. Amazing stuff. He's a one man band.

  • I have to say that, having met Evan at The Mandolin Symposium, he is also an amazing teacher. In fact, of all the instructors at the symposium he was the best prepared and most organized.

  • This guy came to my school last week! He is such an amazing musician and so personable—his stage jokes are even alright. :)

  • woah! this guy owns!

  • Absolutely inspired.. I will be honored to share Evan's music with many of my friends. Mindblowing virtuosity with a playful feel and a ear for nuance. Fantastic stuff!

  • this is really fucking hard..... you have to be better than pro and i hear some people not listening

  • Evan Marshall performs with Billy and the Hillbillies. You can join their Facebook Fan Page and find out where to see him in person. Search Facebook for "Billy and the Hillbillies"....

  • Absolutely wonderful. Downright inspiring. Pushes me to want to play better at all of my stringed instruments. I am so thankful I found this video :)

  • I play this piece on guitar..... actually, I take that back. I THOUGHT I played this piece on guitar....

  • I can assure you that this man is not a human!! Humans cant play mandolin that well.

  • ok I now consider Myselfe a hack on a mandolin("allwase did." LOL) but this guy is crazy tallented!

  • Evan is truly amazing. Down to earth, nice guy. I had to the good fortune to hear him play this at a coffee bar in Hollywood years ago not long after he perfected this piece. I accosted him, of course, and asked him if taught. I found out quickly that he is not only an astonishing mandolin player, but he is also a master instructor. Very cool. My playing improved dramatically with his instruction. Wonderful human being. Hey Evan!! Keep thrilling us with your mandolin magic.

  • Haven't watched this video in a while but I come back tonight--and it still never ceases to amaze and shock me at how stunning of a performance this is. I would LOVE to see this guy play in person

  • Thats not natural man! You sure he's not an alien in disguise, showing us humans how incredibly average we are? lol

  • He's good, I'll give him that. Try "Randall Hill" Awarded top mandolin player in Canada 5 years in a row. Would love to see the two of them go head-to-head in a playing competition. Would be very interesting.

  • Well I looked up Randall and he is good I will give you that but he is nowhere close, with what I have heard, to the, over the top, talent that Evan has.

  • @Recordman12 Why does some sort of "competition" always have to be involved? What ever happened to two guys getting together for a friendly jam session on the porch? Yes, there are other amazing mandolin players on the earth. Big deal.

  • @fodera6 BLOOD! I WANT BLOOD!

  • @Recordman12 Competition proves nothing. Someone is always known to the judges, or friends. It proves nothing. Half the time in competition they don't play the same kind of music. If i'm in a Comp. and i play bluegrass and the judges likes New grass, or likes classical. They might like a Irish jig. Guess what, no matter the talent I loss.

  • Has anyone actually called that number at the end? :-P

  • I never did. I wonder though! :D

  • Dag! I don't even like the mando very much, but that is just outstanding musicianship.

  • you could take on the whole orchestra!!! amazing mandolin playing

  • AGREED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • why public is so lame or just we cant hear them? :)

  • The best as we all have noted. It is so far above anything I can play. Yet is inspiring instead of intimidating.

Love to see him in person some day.

  • He's such a nice guy, too. So humble. Quite an inspiration. Thanks for commenting!

  • show off.

  • Fucking!!! What can I say?? After watch "Rossini - William Tell overture (Part 2)" and "G. Rossini - William Tell Overture (Finale) - by Karajan in 1983" ... wow, it´s just one of the best altenative versions!!.. Cheers!

  • The Lone Ranger would approve.

  • very very nice

  • Geez! Simply the best mandolin playing I've seen. He sounds like a complete orchestra. I wonder how long it took him to learn this overture.

  • this is great! its so good to see people still out there playing classical music. i think modern music has become so repetitive and more about personality then true composition. its really refreshing to hear stuff like this. congrats!

  • That is way the older composer were the best. They made music from their soul. Thanks

  • I've played guitar for almost 30 yrs, and this is EXACTLY why I just ordered my first mandolin (eastman 815...on a budget.) This is amazing.

  • unbelieveable !

  • This is awesome! I can't believe that all that sounds coming from only one person and one instrument. The best!!!!!

  • OH, Evan Marshall. You amazing man, you.

    This rules.

  • The William tell Overture as it should be played!

  • His CDs are amazing. I first thought there were a few instruments playing along when I heard it. But it was all him and his mandolin. Chao

  • This is so typical. A true artist is breaking his fingers in a display of almost super-human musicianship, playing a stirring piece of classical music...and idiots are busy chatting and talking on cell phones about their oh-so-interesting lives.

Music has become a commodity...and not a valuable one to most people. Truly a shame. Evan is the best.

  • chris thile who?

  • I was lucky enough to see Evan do this piece at KCSN radio a few weeks ago (at 8AM!). I think it was even faster that time - unbelievable.

  • XLNT..! you are very skilled!

I did a version of "William Tell Overture" on the guitar (a bit more on the hard rock side of things, but still fun)... take a look if you get some time :)

  • oy vey! quite lovely. everything in place, even!

  • Excellent! Just excellent!

  • Terrific!

  • fantastic touch! This guy can really vary the intensity levels expertly. Thanks for posting this vid!

  • muhteşemmm

  • Dang! All the parts were played, too. Super-wow!!

  • I wanna take up the mandolin.

  • Truly amazing

  • LUV IT

  • Brilliant!

  • SUPER.... now I want to play a mondolin...

  • He's great. Evan performs at Disneyland and has many many classical pieces in his repertoire. (all memorized of course) By the way, he is one of the instructors at the Mandolin Symposium held yearly in Santa Cruz. Very awesome week of musical mando mania.

  • Virtuoso

  • STONKER is the understatement of the century. This guy is STONKERISMO

  • stonker

  • Seriously good playing. Virtuoso!

  • Yngwie Malmsteen died tonight eating donuts along the counter at Krispy Kreme. Evan Marshall is your new god.

  • amazing man!

  • This was awesome. Great job ;)

  • absolutely utterly brilliant

  • damn i gotta go pracatice my mando some more...!

  • In-bloody-credible what more can one say?

  • Virtuoso! haha

  • Awesom thanks DFD

  • This always amazes me every time I see/hear it. Evan is a Wonder of musical talent.
