So much comments about price, price, price . . I use the same leica for 27 years, in the same time friends have spent thousand and thousand of euro for changing their nikon, zoom, motors, gadgets and i can still sell it the price i have paid in late 80's. The fact is you think twice before buying another lens or heavy gadget, and that is a good thing ;)

Great looking unit. I thought it was a bit cheesy of Leica to drop the sapphire glass from the M9, only to bring it back with the Pro model. I looks to me like Leica took a page out of Apple's playbook. I can see putting big bucks into glass but digital cameras themselves seem to have such short shelf lives; these prices seem out of touch with reality. Or at least my reality. But, that may just be sour grapes talking.

taking this pis in terms of price structure. its not the high price more the hike in price frim m9 to m9-p. common sapphire compound coated glass and a paint job 1000 bucks?8 but these are the days we live in....the real difficulty is justifying this kind of spend with so much real poverty out there.... but then again along with photography as with most art comes a certain degree of self obsession. keep up the good work steve - enjoy ur posts and pics immensely.

@3107210748 Not quite Billionaire. I know many who make under $20k a year who own an M9. I go without on many other things..I have a cheap car, cheap house, cheap bed...:) Nice camera.

@stevehuff1969 Just my type of life. A car is just to move from point A to point B, a house is just to sleep and to store you refrigerator, and why bed if you could sleep on a hammoc. Leicas are worth every penny althought they are not the ones that cost, the lenses are the ones that break bank accounts.

Actually here in Switzerland and I think as well in Germany, it's not 1000 $ more as Steve mention. In the contrary Leica decide to decrease the price of the M9 with a reduction of 500.- Swiss francs and the M9-P now costs the same as the M9 before. I think that quite nice.

Sadly it's not yet available and no reseller knows a date - the waiting lists grows bigger and bigger.

@nicolaisidek It has a sapphire crystal screen cover, which is extremely durable, and the silver version has a different texture leather grip compared to the the M9's leather.
