The Characters have little or no character development. THAT'S THE PROBLEM!!! It wouldn't matter if they were fucking blue or not! Not to mention the Navi have few lines at all, and the whole script has gaps in it the size of Texas!! For example, there is no dialogue or even consideration of dialogue between the leaders of the two parties. Jake doesn't even consider telling the Navi what the humans are planning or what they want! And Jake cares about these people!? What a croc!!!
F*** you!!!! How dare you call Avatar the new Star Wars.
I saw the movie and it don´t even come close to the original trilogy.
The first Star Wars movie didn´t need high tech CGI to become a movie classic. The CGI in Avatar is only there to cover up a bad excuse for a story. Its not a bad movie but it isn´t good enough to called the new Star Wars.
This Graphics were great the love part sucked The story sucked everything was predictable(This is the Dragon that kills everything but you cant ride it but legend says..... Oh wow I wish I could ride it some day. Guess What happens) and the characters where stereotypes(The General.) Every Body who says this movie is great dosnt think outside the Box and is a sheep following a crowd and half the people saying this movie sucks dont even know why or they have stupid reasons.
I do believe this is our second movie disagreement. But thats not bad at all really. I wonder if you would have thought so highly of this "movie" if you had seen it like you see every other movie, without the fancy light show. I personally watch movies for great storytelling and characters I can relate to overcoming great odds and learning from their journey. Avatar had none of that. Ridiculously bad movie. 2 out of 10 stars.

What exactly did James Cameron STEAL? tell me please cuz i would like to know exactly what you and all the other people bitching about this fine movie have their panties in a bunch about? There are TONS of movies that are inspired by something else, nothing is truly original but you tell me where else you saw a movie that had a planet as alive as Pandora in full 3D. It's a cinematic experience you people need to get the hell over it.
Excellent point. I've been in a constant argument with the malcontented pseudo-critics of the youtube comment arena. I have stated previously that I do not regard an opinion as anything but a personal, relative thing; but the pursuit of dissuading others from experiencing a damn movie is purely selfish. I appreciate your views on the movie, they are very similar to mine and I suppose for that reason I am also selfish, but I personally think this is an excellent review and an excellent movie.
I for one felt that the movie was overrated and ok at best. I enjoyed the use of 3D in Coraline more and while the CGI took 4 years to create the script felt as if it was written in 4 days. Thats not to say that it was bad, because it wasn't by no means, but a new and amazing experience was hyped and that wasn't what I got. Plus I have to agree with the whole Dances With Wolfs thing. Regardless I had a good time with the film and to each their own.

Avatar=Dance with Wolves in space...srsly it the same movie. I wasnt the least bit impressed, it had a ham-fisted boring easily predictable story, it had almost no science in his science fiction movie, and generaly just wasnt interesting. I found myself cheering for the 'evil' military to win, at least they were a one dimension charactor everyone could like..everyone likes bad guys
Great movie, a little long but warning, see the the plain version, just plain or in real 3d. Just saw it today and enjoyed it but the Imax ( or lie max) isn't worth it. The glasses gives you headaches, and the screen is toooo small. I would rather see the 2.40:1 screen than a home theater looking Imax. save some money and see it for 5.75 or 7.50 if cost this much in certain areas.
The fact remains that the story IS cliche, even Cameron described it as Dances with wolves. Besides that, I can name a few more; Gorillas in the mist, Pocahontas and Ferngully. You can't just side step the story and jump on the CGI train. Thats really the problem, everyone jumps on the CG.
Funny though, I knew you were going to rank it gold as soon as I realized that most of today's audience, are idiots who still suckle at the Titanic teat.
This is a case where CGI helped tell a story. People want to say the movie wasn't original but what movie is? Film today is inspired of something else, almost all stories are familiar. A story doesn't need to be never heard before to be enjoyable it's the way it's told and Avatar has plenty of things nobody has seen before ever. This movie definitely deserves a Gold, is it one of the best movies of the year? It's not on my top 10 but it surely deserves acclaim.
I will agree that CGI helped tell the story, but every movie uses visuals to express a theme. 300, Watchmen, and even Aliens, used "epic" visuals and or CG to express the greatness of a scene or the telling of the story.
Most stories today aren't original, but to take the classic tale that Disney and many other studios have used for decades doesnt a great film make. CGI is fun to experience but this is far from Star Wars in story. Not even on my top 30, but I can see where people like it.

Americans know nothing about movies , Bollywood will fucking blow you away soon , this movie Avatar is not new , been there seen that it's not something new , big smurfs , you must be kidding
@TheBoomViper why so much hate? its a great movie, but the plot is essentially dance with wolves, but with blue people. have some fun, its not all supposed to be taken seriuosly
First, they're not smurfs. Second, DWW is not original in itself; this type of story has existed for a very long time. DWW re-told it, Pocahontas re-told it, Avatar re-told it. Each film has retold this story with its own great storytelling. Avatar also deals with real issues that exist here on Earth, so that part should be taken seriously.
@TheBoomViper LOL dude, I never said DWW plot was original, i know all that stuff. I was just riffing on a South Park joke they made about it, its funny deal with it, that part shouldn't be taken seriuosly. And they have characterisitcs of Smurfs.
I already specified the serious real-life elements found in Avatar. Whether you chose to take them seriously is your problem. And how, pray tell, do the Na'vi share Smurf-characteristics?
@TheBoomViper Well, their blue, live in a village, love nature, and they are valuable to a powerful white man (but in Avatar's case their land is). As for the whole serious part, I meant the whole Dances With Smurfs joke is not meant to be taken seriuosly because I am riffing on a joke itself.
@TheBoomViper Well of course except you can't melt them down into gold HAHA LOL!!! Dude I'm fucking with you, accept the joke and move on. Its not a big deal, I'm not trying to make some thickheaded political point with you. For the 1000th time I'm riffing on a South Park joke because it was .......wait for it..........funny. Learn to see the lighter side of life, I'm not trying to piss you off, I'm just trying to put what I'm saying into proper context.
@TheBoomViper I'm fully aware of what of the purpose and impact Avatar and other films have on the world whether its socially, environmentally, or politically. I watch and enjoy a lot of films, both simple (Hot tub Time Machine) and complex (Inception), but awesome nontheless. South Parks not all toilet humor, for over a decade its have a lot to say as a social commentary and satire on social issues and world events. Going back to my original comment: I made a joke cause it was funny to me -fin
I saw this yesterday and i have to say i enjoy it. And make me remember somethings that happen behind all the stuffs and i have forgoten. It treats some real problems who some of us dont know or remember (or even believe, because looks fake and exagerated. See to believe some say here), and i take the message over the rest... ok, the efects, soundtrack, characters, some parts of the story and action scenes too. I dont want to lie about it.
I didn't enjoy it that much. The first hour hour and a half, was great, but I didn't feel that his relationships were developed well, the story wasn't developed well, and it all just got cliched. The 3D was fantastic, the effects were amazing, but it didn't resonate at all with me. You want good Mo-Cap? Play the game Uncharted 2, it has mo-cap just as good as Avatar. I guess it just didn't live up to my standards, because everyone else I know loves it.

I have to drive for 2 hours to see this movie at the cinema this time, it's a long story to if I have to tell you the hole reason for that. I am going to watch it on the 29.
Great review. I agree the story isn't important, after all there are only 7 story's in the world. What we consider a good story is one told in an original new way. However with Avatar it is as story told in a most classical way and beautifully told which will establish this movie as a classic for decades to come.
Great review, Fury. I agree, the movie may have had some cliché moments here and there and a predictable story, but nevertheless, I thought it was epic in every other single aspect. I did not think avatar was anything special exept the special effects.
effects/production 10/10 no question there, effects in this movie is mindblowing
story 5/10
watch the news ppl. more terrible things are going on out there. there is no pride in taking it to the movies.
no originality.
characters 3/10
i did not feel anything for any of the characters. there is just no depth to any of them. I will not even mention the acting.
final score 6/10
i will not see this movie again for a long time
