Who's territorial laws? That of Spain, perhaps France? pfft. It was a different era; to suggest that such laws are still valid today is ludicrous.

And the Scottish referendum requires permission from Pariliament at Westminster, so yes, we are "letting" them have a referendum. There is still a lot of support for the Union in Scotland.

Nobody believes that the Queen is better than anybody; she has no real power. The true power lies in the elected Commons.

@nellamanodestra We do not own the Scottish people. Our parliament is sovereign, therefore any devolved body which wants to hold a referendum on independence or anything else must ask Parliament for permission. Due to the fact that we are a democratic state, Parliament has given that permission.

Nobosy is considered a lesser man. They simply cannot be head of state. They can still hold a position of power, like Prime Minister. And you don't have to be rich to hold it, unlike many republics.
