just throwing this out there. insurance for a 2004 sti for a 19 year old with perfect record is 1400 every six months with nationwide. so about 233 a month but i have full tort if you go to limited tort its about 170 a month.
I have a Sti '05 and my friend a '04 both cars not tuned the '05 handle better and has a little more power..consider that from '04 to '05 hubs, steering and something in the rear is improved..great car this Impreza, only problem some understeering and some turbolag (quite normal for a big turbo)
Great to hear this. I believe you are correct on the minor differences. I really wanted an 05/06 sti but couldn't find one that wasn't modified so I just went with a brand new Wrx. Love it. Oh and from my comment below about the 04/05 being detuned.... apparently there aren't any difference except for a slight flash to fix the well known Ringland issue.
Im from the us an 04 was the best year i think, i own a 2.5rs 00' model an i love it but its not turboed so im going with a 04' sti swap. Doin alot of research on sti motors since im tryin to buy one for a swap an 04' seem to take a beating an get high numbers when upgraded. Just puttin in my 2 cents... Ej257 all day...
yeah but i may be wrong. Just another thing, im not really sure any sti is better than the other though but ive also herd good things about the 09' too but their so damn ugly would prolly look better with the 06' front end...Thanks ejicon, Later
I own a 08 WRX but from what I've read and understand from research, the 2005 was the year of the Sti. Since 2004 was it's debut, 2005 was the year that Subaru made many adjusts, added a radio, changed the steering wheel and added rear fender flares. If you can get your hands on a 2005, jump on it if it's a good deal. 2004 should satisfy you as well. Good luck

Interesting. I've actually heard that the 05' sti is the same engine as the 04 (obviously) but de'tuned. Good choice. Hope it turns out well.

My Subaru Liberty Is fun to drive but she gets midrange lagg which aint good but after that you feel her kick right back in..
Hopefully upgrading to an 04 StI, was thinkn of the 02 Bug eye STI but apperently im told not to go for them so 04 is the way i guess..

I'm in love with the STi's ...I currently drive a 2001 Honda Prelude.
How much would a 2004 STi w/ about 40,000 miles in great condition cost?
AND...my car insurance is currently at $1,200 a year. How much would my insurance go up from my Prelude to an STi...someone let me know please.

how old are you?
insurance is going to go up, A LOT.
and a car like that is going to cost you around 16k.
I found one for double that mielage, for only 14k though

I'm 20 years old.
I'd be willing to sacrifice the extra miles as long as the car was in GREAT condition and ran great.

@EverythingEvil007 get a WRX until you turn 25 bro. STI insurance is absurd

Agreed, I have an 05 STi... even when I'm going the speed limit at 2500RPM I think, "I friggin' love this thing."
'05s are also said to have the most bullet proof motor

I reckon it's the 00-01 STis that have the strongest engine internals (forged pistons).
