No Chambers was a great player. He was just on the Suns before they knew how to put a team together. Plus everybody had a great player then. It was Magic and Birds era then. Every team was worth watching.
Very underrated player, Tom Chambers. After seeing some of his dunks, he looks like that athletic dude from the company picnic dunking on 7.5 ft high rims. Probably one of the best NBA players you've never heard of.
@PJHunterTJ Totally agree, I think this music doesn't fit for any basketball video, maybe ice hockey. Anyway, is a good video about an exciting player.
I'll never understand why a fucking stupid movie like "White Men Can't Jump" was made when Tom Cambers was IN-YO FACING many of the brothers back then. Fuck You, Hollywood!!!!!
Yeah, there are definitely athletic white players ... they are just fewer and further between than the less athletic, skill focused white players (mark price, steve nash etc.)
Em. That is completely wrong. But i guess that opinion is why white kids very rarely attempt to dunk or develop a decent jump and so we have the "white men can't jump" stereotype. Notice how the number of white guys jumping in the league has fallen percentage wise over the years as the stigma has set in more and more.... At least Birdman knows whats good.
dunking from near corner of the free throw line at an angle, and hanging in the air and gliding in to dunk in and of itself would be incredible, however when you factor in that he not only dunks with two hands, but is so elevated that he throws it down at the rim AND has glided so far his head is at the rim when he dunks, AND on top of all of this he does this in the middle of a pro game AND jumps OVER a player, it is flat out UNREAL and unparalleled atheleticism
pumpplanet: Nice post, but Tom didn't really launch near the free-throw line. Don't get me wrong, I love his game, but Chris was wrong about a couple of things here. First, he exaggerated where Tom took off from. He took 1 more big stride and took off just shy of the key. Chris said Tom took off on 2 feet (also incorrect). Chambers may have the ability to dunk from the free-throw line, he just didn't on this play. However, this means that he elevated even faster & over a shorter distance!
Why are you responding to my post regarding chris webbers words? -I am not chris webber- no offense but EVERYTHING that i stated in my post above is fact and clearly documented on the film here, and provided from two different camera angles. these facts are completely aside from anything chris webber or any other person comment on. the facts are documented on the film.
pumpplanet: Sorry, I didn't mean to put Webber's words in your mouth, but I've never heard anyone else make these claims about this play before. No offense (touche), but I think you need to see an ophthalmologist right away. At 5:01 (in this video) is that not Tom Chambers' left foot near the bottom of the key? Is it still on the ground? Does he really take off on 2 feet? YES, YES and NO!
what about the statement - I AM NOT CHRIS WEBBER- do u not understand? once again what does anything he said have to do with me? let me put this alittle clearer in case u still do not understand, i never made any mention of how many feet he jumped off of. WHO* needs the consultation of an EYE doctor? lol. opthamalogist much?(keep your touche). if he had said he turned invisible and passed through him or turned blue in mid air and stopped time, regardless it doesnt take away from the play itself
pumpplanet: You need to read what you write! An excerpt from the second line of your first post reads "dunking from the near corner of the free throw line at an angle." One from your next post reads "everything that I stated in my post above is fact and clearly documented on the film here" And I know your not Webber, but you seem to agree with him. Do you not understand that by saying these things (especially the first one), you are putting forth an estimate on the distance he jumped?
yes i know what i wrote, and i will say it again: he jumped from near the corner of the free throw line. and yes it is documneted on film. that has nothing to do with weber or anyone else's comment. and yes that is an estimate of the distance he jumped, and if you watch he actually has so much momentum left he could have jumped from much further back and actually is eye level with the rim when he dunks here.
i can't watch this with the sound on; this music blows!

Jesus may walk on water, but Tom Chambers can walk on air.

Tom Chambers was solid...but hes like a Shawn Kemp...very athletic, but theres a reason why they're aren't considered in the top 10. Consistency.

@usnate1
Yeah, that's a pretty good comparison.

With the shorts those guys were wearing, you would think that players back then were taller.. :-)
