Hello Maangchi. My names Chef Christian Anthony I am a contestant on this years Master Chef Tv show on FOX. I just wanted to thank you for such excellent recipe videos like your Jeonbukjuk. I actually serve this now at my catering company. It's funny but your videos have inspired me to share my Master Chef Asian fusion dishes as well. Thank you so much for this video Maangchi Aujuma. My mom was sick and I wanted to make her something to eat, I'm better with chicken soup but my mommy is korean so I made her this 2 hours ago and she loved it =*-^= I also had a big bowl it was yummmy. Thank you again. Oh I can't wait to make that rainbow rice cake next/heehee.
i've caught the cold (like everyone else around me), and was thinking of my childhood and how my mom would cook me jeonbokjuk on sick days. porridge is best for times when your body's aching and every muscle and joint movement hurts -- you can just slurp it down!
thank you maangchi! time for me to teach myself this dish.
Thank You maangchi!! :)) I just recently had my braces and they hurt a lot. :(( I cant bite food, making it very hard to find something to eat. I made your porridge! i just wonder, can i change the rice into brown rice? i've tried it for the second time, but i cant make it into sticky form.
sebastonix 2 years ago
the key to porridge is the starch that is pulled out of the rice. brown rice grains still have the bran layer over it, making it difficult for the starches to be pulled out. if you really want to keep trying with brown rice, one suggestion (that hasn't been tested!!) might be to partially grind the rice after soaking. might ruin texture though. my grandma makes jook with i think a 2:1 ratio of white to brown and i believe she grinds the brown up in a blender. hope that helps!!
