  • When you mentioned the second point about taking their strong point and making it matter to people, I think it's the other way around. They have taken products that are already on the market and seen that it could be much easier for people to use - and that is their strength now because people know that when you buy a mac, you can take it out of the box and start using it. Really good points though, I'm just wondering if I can reference youtube vids in my Marketing essay ;)

  • @justinhumphreys1 no no, STEVE M CHAZIN is the guy you need to reference ! ill message you via youtube !

  • what about the iPad isn't that a new product?

  • apple was the 1st to bring out the app store, untill then no manufacturer or platform provided a single portal for users to get all their apps. But i agree with you inspite of apple's claims they never really invent anything, they just make something existing a lot for easier for the user to use

  • I think with the advent of the iPhone and the IPad apple has seen a burst of innovation not in the sense that mobile computing or cellular technology is their intellectual property, but in the sense that they have revolutionized those markets. The iPhone has set the bar in smartphone tech since it's release in 2007. Apple has marketed it successfully as the most user friendly smartphone. That's what really pays off. These days iPhone is like the Motorola Razr. Incredibly popular because of it

  • macbook air may have been the first

  • Nice work. keep it up. dfgfdgh

  • The original Macintosh wasn't the first "personal computer", but it WAS the first *consumer* PC that had a simple to use GUI, and due to the first Mac, desktop publishing became possible for more people.

Also, Apple may not always come out with the first "product" type, but they certainly have invented (Firewire) or made standard (USB / getting rid of floppy disks) adjustments throughout the industry.

  • I agree with you on most, but Apple is often the first or the first significant.

For all practical purposes Apple is responsible for the first pc.

Apple was the first to take a chance on that crazy idea of a mouse driven graphical user interface.

The iPod was for all practical purposes the first major mp3 player. Although most people don't know that it was a colossal flop for it's first 3 years (2001)

The iPhone is by far the first phone of it's kind. A cross between a phone and a labtop.

  • Nice series so far ^.^

Yes, Apple makes more and better innovations, but they always let PC make it famous. They've done this countless times, and as the old adage goes: bite me once, shame on you [PC], bite me twice (or 100+ times now), shame on me [Apple]. ^.^

I think both the Apple fanboys and the PC fanboys are the real problem though. Couldn't we all agree that fanboys from both sides of this corporate automaton/shills' war need to be shipped to outer space?

  • ★★★★★

  • Great video, this is why i think apple maybe producing a netbook/tablet device. Apple have taken time to see how these things are turning out, and they may release a product which outclasses current netbooks.

  • nice vid man tottoly agree also totally......BAAAKKKEDDDDD

  • i was going to say apple tv but its been done "media centres"

  • First of all, great idea for a video series, really clever. Your points are well thought out, and they make sense. Apple is the first to say they don't invent things, they just reinvent, and that's what counts. Keep 'em coming!

  • dude! :D is that the rockband microphone? if so i did that too :p

  • Outstanding video Adrian mate as with Part 1. Excellent points and all of them very well executed. I totally agree with your views on this subject, Apple do exactly what you have just mentioned they take products already in the public domain add the "Apple touch" and make that product matter to us. They make us think how have we survived this long using other branded products when it has been this simple all along.

  • I guess they make us either subconsciously or consciously think that the other companies producing these products have been making us work unnecessarily harder than we should be. For example, the clip you refer to, The Apple remote beside the Windows Remote. The Apple remote does all it needs to do and it is ergonomically and aesthetically superior to other similar functioning tools. All the best mate and take care

  • what did the newton do?

  • it was a PDA

  • Agree with all the points you mentioned in the video.

  • u should put the mic lower away from view =/ looks weird/funny lol but good video =]

  • If you are the first to market something then you are exposed to certain dangers if you haven't researched properly your customer base and customer needs.

Apple managed to identify a niche market and their competitive advantages are : Proper marketing, marriage between technology and simplicity, software development and innovative ideas.

They really know how to market their stuff !

  • Never be the first to market, make something good make something better !

Well from a marketing perspective a competitive advantage is gained only under 2 circumstances:

    1. You introduce something revolutionary and you are the first to market it. There are countless examples

    2. You borrow something from the market or your own product line and try to figure out how to make better.

  • ye First Mover Advantage right ? i remember studying that a long time ago, thats why when i read about apple i was like hmmm well they blow that point away, successfully.lol.

  • First mover advantage, competitive advantage it's all the same.

Fact are facts. Apple is operating on a niche market and nobody can compete them in their own market. If you follow case studies and pure business theory that's where you will end up.

They really care about their customer base and you get that feeling when you hear their mission statement: We want to make products that we would suggest to our own families or friends.

This sums up everything and that's why people are so loyal.

  • random question here, what do you think about the palm pre... i am tempted by it

  • ye, well if FOR WATEVER reason i CANT get an iPhone, then without a doubt ill be getting the palm pre !

  • apple till i die !!!!

  • If Apple didn't exist technology would not be nearly exciting as it today. I'll be a Mac user for life unless some unforeseeable and unlikely event occurs.

  • I can just say that MAC'S are great so in my eyes.

    Mac= :)

    Thanks,

    Tom.C

  • I´m thinking of the old first harddrive-mp3 -players like jukebox and such..they were crap ....then Apple came with the first iPod.....that was .....wow...!

  • well i agree but apple did make firewire that is used every now for video editing

  • i knew someone would mention that, but im sticking to talking about products rather than technologies, because apple started loads of technologies,

  • I think Apple should make a Mac which is fully upgradable at an affordable price.

  • The iPod was invented in 12 weeks!

  • LOL, the iPod was created in 12 weeks. They didn't invent the mp3 player

  • Look at the iPhone. The FIRST phone they made redefined the marketplace, while Nokia and Sony/Ericsson has been doing their thing for almost 20 years.

  • Absolutely right, they are amazing. With no apple, inspiration would be sparse. Especially windows would be boring as hell. (as if it isn't bad enough!)

  • You're definately right & I think they'll do the same thing in the netbook category - they'll come with a much better solution as the others do, but late, not too late perhaps always at the right time!

  • They don't make categories, they change them.

  • In terms of true commercial world marketing, Apple sucks and thinks like a mom and pop shop rather than a world class business. The only reason Apple computer survived this long regardless of their "good product" is because of the Ipod. And the only reason the Ipod did so well was because of its interface and later being compatible with PCs. Apple is no genius. Their marketing does not save them at all, its mostly because of their luck and product.

  • The Newton was quite successful. It didn't sell millions because of it's high cost, but it was certainly profitable. Jobs only really scrapped it because I get the feeling that he was working by the "strip the layers from the Onion and you will get to the profitable core" model.

The Newton still has the most advanced hand writing technology of any PDA today.

  • iPod touch! first iPod with WIFI and Cover flow!

  • You should do podcasting!

  • Great video!

  • graet vid how many parts will there be????

    1 million hopefully

  • make sense

  • It's so great your are making videos again!

  • are you gonna do your opinions on the zune hd?

  • the rock band mic really is a brilliant microphone
