Just found one on Auto trader. Within 100 miles of zip code 17055. 1999 SS with 65,000 miles for 9,995. Now the really nice low mileage ones are going for more like 11 - 12k but close enough. Check it out. Its there as of 9 am this morning.
Big difference is you can spend 30k and have a 9 second camaro or spend 30k and have a bone stock 13 second Supra with 120,000 miles on it. Both cars in this video were great though. Hell of a race.

Power is power. Wheather its boosted or not doesnt mean a damn thing in a race, cause the turbo is still part of the engine. Of course if you put up a nonboosted engine that is less then half the size of the v8 its going to lose.

assuming other factors like weight, traction, gearing, suspension, etc, are not in the picture--- take an engine that is 1000hp naturally aspirated VS another engine that makes 1000hp by means of a turbo--- the turbo car will win because once it hits boost it will achieve that power much quicker than N/A; so power is not power; when talking engine for engine, its how you fast you can make the power which determines your race.
Ok, thats true, I shouldnt have said power is power. But what I was getting at mostly (and in alot of other vid comments) is that 2 cars with roughly equal 1/4 times are a good race. It shouldnt matter wheather one's boosted or not, because they are on the same level with that boost. Otherwise, the race would have never taken place because no one with a N/A 3.0 i6 in their right mind would race a N/A 383 or what not. But you're right, that boost will kick in hard, but at low end power NAs better

When you make the power, is very important - more importantly you don't run out of power before the other guy does. I like naturally aspirated v8's with almost match torque and horsepower, so the transition of power is constant. 1000hp/1000ftlbs will be more efficient at constant power than 1000hp/500ftlbs.

Yup, It'd be easier to get a decent 4 cylinder honda for 3k, do some work for no more than 5k and get a decent running car. The parts for a domestic will probably run more to begin with.
If that supra was built to the max, then why are other supras, both faster and quicker than the one shown here? True the Camaro can handle more mods, but these cars are both street class cars. Don't let the video fool you, both cars equally were fast, it just so happens that the supra won that day. That Camaro has beaten that supra before, and vice-versa.. So it's all good.. =)

i build a 10 second fox stang for my buddy!! bought for $1250 the car with no motor annd tranny! the diff had already 4:10 gears. i put a 383 sbc 478hp on dyno and a th350: the powertrain cost him about 2700$ ( i assembled the engine)and a pair of 10"slicks for a mere 120$! do the math: $4070 for a car that runs 10.89 on the 1/4! can you do that with an import that with an import?? including the price of the car??? ( i mean bone stock)

You do know what your talkin about. I've worked for GM for 10 yrs, I've driven for Bob Bondurant in AZ using his ZO6's. My parts dept sells purely GM performance. I've been on both sides of the dime, and in NO way does it cost less to race a domestic car as opposed to any import. There are 10 times more reciprocating parts on an LS2 then a 2JZ! Even the new LSX Blocks I have in my showroom cost me more than a brand new 2JZ!
It all depends on what kind of car and engine suspension setup ect ect. you could build a foxbody mustang for less than a camaros engine its self if you buy a carburated sbf and build it up. and vice versa. usually older american cars are the cheapest way to go fast.

I will admit that I did all the work myself so that was a big factor in cost. 400whp in any 2 dr Civic is a high 10sec car on 22-24.5 slicks and 11 sec on D.R.'s with 130-135mph traps. The guys that are doing 9.3 - 9.9 and trapping 150-163mph are making 700-850+whp costs tehm about 10,000 more 70% of that money is in non hp parts.

Power is power. Wheather its boosted or not doesnt mean a damn thing in a race, cause the turbo is still part of the engine. Of course if you put up a nonboosted engine that is less then half the size of the v8 its going to lose.

I disagree with you, it actually means alot in a race:
assuming other factors like weight, traction, gearing, suspension, etc, are not in the picture--- take an engine that is 1000hp naturally aspirated VS another engine that makes 1000hp by means of a turbo--- the turbo car will win because once it hits boost it will achieve that power much quicker than N/A; so power is not power; when talking engine for engine, its how you fast you can make the power which determines your race.

Ok, thats true, I shouldnt have said power is power. But what I was getting at mostly (and in alot of other vid comments) is that 2 cars with roughly equal 1/4 times are a good race. It shouldnt matter wheather one's boosted or not, because they are on the same level with that boost. Otherwise, the race would have never taken place because no one with a N/A 3.0 i6 in their right mind would race a N/A 383 or what not. But you're right, that boost will kick in hard, but at low end power NAs better

When if that same v8 was turbo'd it would probably run twice as fast as that turbo'd import!

When you make the power, is very important - more importantly you don't run out of power before the other guy does. I like naturally aspirated v8's with almost match torque and horsepower, so the transition of power is constant. 1000hp/1000ftlbs will be more efficient at constant power than 1000hp/500ftlbs.

and hp/litre doesent mean nothing in the usa! in japan hp/litre means..because you pay the insurance by liter and #cylinders(so smaller the engine,smaller the cost (in japan) )but in the usa who cares if you have a 7.5 liter engine??? a 1969 302 sbc V8 had 450 plus hp with cross ram intake,solid lifters,headers etc..: that's 92 hp/liter IN 1969!!!

i build a 10 second fox stang for my buddy!! bought for $1250 the car with no motor annd tranny! the diff had already 4:10 gears. i put a 383 sbc 478hp on dyno and a th350: the powertrain cost him about 2700$ ( i assembled the engine)and a pair of 10"slicks for a mere 120$! do the math: $4070 for a car that runs 10.89 on the 1/4! can you do that with an import that with an import?? including the price of the car??? ( i mean bone stock)

Regardless of what platform you use, it all comes down to power to weight ratio, do you agree on that? You do know what your talkin about. I've worked for GM for 10 yrs, I've driven for Bob Bondurant in AZ using his ZO6's. My parts dept sells purely GM performance. I've been on both sides of the dime, and in NO way does it cost less to race a domestic car as opposed to any import. There are 10 times more reciprocating parts on an LS2 then a 2JZ! Even the new LSX Blocks I have in my showroom cost me more than a brand new 2JZ!

It all depends on what kind of car and engine suspension setup ect ect. you could build a foxbody mustang for less than a camaros engine its self if you buy a carburated sbf and build it up. and vice versa. usually older american cars are the cheapest way to go fast.

"its only about TOTAL hp." hahaha is that a joke what about things like weight or how about this little thing called traction. oh and btw the larger the displacement the more the engine most likely weighs, therefore it takes more power to move it so if you did you're hypothetical race that 2L could win off the pear fact power/weight.

I will admit that I did all the work myself so that was a big factor in cost. 400whp in any 2 dr Civic is a high 10sec car on 22-24.5 slicks and 11 sec on D.R.'s with 130-135mph traps. The guys that are doing 9.3 - 9.9 and trapping 150-163mph are making 700-850+whp costs tehm about 10,000 more 70% of that money is in non hp parts.
