back in the old days of sesame street, i think the whole "let's get along" message was implicit. once sesame street got into the 80's, they pushed it too hard. then they introduced Elmo, and sadly, the show was never the same again. btw, RIP Jim Henson. Genius.

I love this song, remember it from when I was a kid (and I'm 22 now). If only more grownups would remember this. We're all people, regardless of where we live, what language we speak, what religion we follow, who we love. We all want the same things: Happiness, love, safety, peace. If we're going to teach this message to our children, we need to follow our own lessons as well. "We all sing with the same voice".

@sievangattuso But this wasn't too long after the end of segregation in the US - I was born in '72 My dad was Black, mom was Chinese and I grew up being annoyed that the stupid people would always ask me "what I was" (as if that mattered!). I'll bet the invention of tv might have sped that process up some - allowing people to see lives that were not like their own. I remember this song from when I was a kid. I have the cd and book and I start out each week in my first grade class singing it with them. I have 8 nationalities represented in my class of 24 and it's truly a thing of beauty to hear them sing it. They also write their own verses each year which is a real treat.
