  • lol i thought this is going to be a video about vss sniper rifle

  • hello i need some help ! we are fitting a for ka vss on a racing car to monitor the speed ! i have 3 wiers 1 blac, 1 red and 1 white .... can they be black = sensor ground, red 5v and white signal? thanks for your help as always

    Noel Malta ( europe )

  • @noelvillager That sounds like a good guess. Whatever you do, don't connect 12 volts to the sensor. Unless it's a special racing sensor, but I doubt it. It may also be that the signal is the RED and the voltage reference (5V) is the white. You won't damage the sensor if you invert the wires. Good luck...

  • ADPT training i m subscribed not long time ago to see your videos i like them and i have aquestion i have a ford f150 2005 and just started giving problems with transmission slipping i think is the first speed last a little to start moving and suddenly jumps to to the speed also when i go like 55 mph and stop pressing the pedal of the accelerator to slow down the speed the engine sometimes accelerates by itself and then comes down again canyou give me an idea what could be the problem

  • @theASEtech Yes, it sounds that the tranny is staying engaged. It also sounds like a mechanical/hydraulic issue. The engine doesn't want to let go because the tranny stays engaged. Check simple things like fluid level. What DTCs are you getting? Post back with more...

  • i have an 02 ford focus 2.0 sohc. i have a code P0720, 21 and 22, all refering to the output shaft speed sensor same a vss. sometimes i would loose the speed signal to the cluster and at times the transmission willkick into neutral. ive replace the sensor 2 times already and well ofcourse thats not the case. any ideas on how i can test it? i put a metter on acV and voltage will rise according with vheicle speed. any other iseas?

  • @xxioryyagamixx The OSS codes are a reflection of the issue. Make sure and scope the signal wire. If you have a 3 wire sensor (Hall-Effect) scope the power, signal ref. voltage (5V) and ground. Wiggle the wires and graph or scope the reading over time. If all check OK, then you may have a mechanical issue with the trans... Often time a mechanical issue will output an OSS code. Good luck...

  • @ADPTraining well its a 2 wire sensor, one is the signal (wh.bu) and the other one is the signal return... but when i check both wires for referance voltage all i got was a 2.6V DC... i guess that means i have a short or something. also i test it by putting my metter on Ac voltage and back probe the pcm. as the car speed when up the voltage rice acording to the speed. i wish i could have a scope but i dont =(

  • @xxioryyagamixx That's a magnetic sensor and you need a graphing meter or scope for that. Volt meter set on AC is only averaged reading. It's OK as a preliminary check. You need to be able to view the wave. Let me know and post when you have more...

  • my 96 infiniti just gave me a P0500 for speed sensor and blink my OD light, anyone have a similar problem?

  • @hispanicuscorpus The VSS (speed sensor) is always close to the output shaft. This is normally the shaft going to one of the wheels. It's fairly easy to replace. It may not be that cheap though. Good luck.

  • thank you for the info adpt training however this was not the problen it was a plugged transmission filter

  • @TheCrazymf I'm glad you found it. Feel free to let us know anytime you have an issue with your vehicle. You're all invited to partake in this channel. Good luck.

  • anyone know where a vss sensor is on a 1993 chev cavalier have to rev car befor it will shift 93 000 kms thats not many miles is the trans fooked up?the car stalled in traffic started ok in park i put it in drive and it stalled again i waited 30 mins and everthin was fine the next day this happened mygf is mad please help its her car

  • @TheCrazymf Hello, the VSS on this vehicle is close to one of the drive axles. That's where the final drive is. If this vehicle has a speedometer cable, the VSS may be at the speedo cable itself. If no speedo cable, and speedometer works then VSS probably at fault.

  • This helped a lot.. I've heard people say there are 2 sensors, the VSS on the rear diff and some say the other is on the tranny.. Says here on OBD2 it is on the ABS sensor..

  • @mixwell1983 Hi, well it's like this: Traditionally the VSS was always at the rear of the trans. by the output shaft neck. Then manufacturers placed it on the differential, either or, but not both. Now, in late model systems, in order to save money they're doing away with the VSS completely and using one of the WSS (wheel speed sensor). They figured that the WSS was already an indicator of vehicle speed to begin with, so why duplicate.

  • @ADPTraining Continued: So on a late model 2003-up system, if the transmission is not shifting, and there;s a DTC for the VSS input, look to see if one is available. If not then the vehicle input is taken from the wheels (WSS). Good luck...Mandy.

  • @ADPTraining - Yah it makes sense man.. I think tomorrow I need to get a VSS and replace it and hopefully that will end my hard shifting.. The speedo reads fine but on my Ranger it is shifting hard and the overdrive light flashes so I hope the trans isn't toast at this point.. I will keep my fingers crossed.

  • @mixwell1983 If the OD light is flashing, count the flashes. Sometimes these flashes indicate a code, as in: Flash, Flash,....Pause.....Flash = Code 21.

    Good luck to you.

  • @ADPTraining - Thanks for the info man.. I did replace the abs/VSS sensor about the rear diff and it still hasn't fixed my prop.. I am guessing maybe a shift solenoid, the valve body, a loose connection, maybe just a tranny flush OR worst off my trans is fucked up but I don't think the tranny is toast I just would like to be able to pin point and not spend more money on a fix that isn't the root of the problem.. I should probly take it a shop and get it ran for codes..

  • @mixwell1983 Just go to PepBoys, they'll retrieve DTCs often times for free. This way they sell parts. Ask yourself these questions.

    1) if the CEL (check eng. light) ON. If so then you have DTCs (CODES).

    2) Is the trans stuck in 2nd or 3rd gear. If so then the TCM is in limp-in mode. If stuck in 1st or 3rd gear then it's a hydraulic problem.

    3) If you rev the engine really high, would it shift? If so then the trans is probably OK, so the issue is electronics.

    Good luck...Mandy.

  • @ADPTraining - The CEL light isn't on however the overdrive light flashes on a rough shift.. It does shift from 1st to 2nd and if I feather the gas pedal when the RPS are higher it will shift smooth. The problem is that the RPMS get to high before shit or if i smash on the gas the RPMS rev up but no speed increase/gear change until I lighten off of it.. Also if I am at a stop and lug the engine around 2500rpm it will go into 2nd but it kicks in hard. Thanks for the replies !!

  • @mixwell1983 Your know...mmmm... There is one possibility here: Besides the VSS the other biggest input to the TCM is the TPS. The Throttle Position Sensor is a major input to the TCM (trans module) for throttle aperture and rate of change. A fault TPS with blind spots will cause all sorts of shifting problems, especially what you're describing.

  • @ADPTraining Continued: If the Trans goes from 1st to 2nd repeatedly then it is not stuck in Limp-In Mode, therefore the fault is not constant, is hydraulic, is intermittent or is in the valve body/hard parts.

What looks strange is that if you feather the throttle it shifts smooth. So what is the TCM seen that's causing it too shift hard when driving more aggressively.

NOTE: One other thing, the CEL bulb might have been removed. Do a KOEO (key on engine off). Look for the CEL ON.

  • @ADPTraining - The CEL is working properly.. Hmm I wil definately add this to another possible reason and maybe check out more on the TPC and what would cost. Thanks for all the info man I really appreciate you taking the time to reply.

    Take care.

  • I have a 96 buick lasabre, the speedometer and tach are erratic, the car runs fine, cruise control not working either. any ideas?

  • i have a 2003 chevy silverado ss. its engilne light came on and stays on, it wont go over 40mph, and the readout says something about engine speed reduced. why is this? please help

  • You need to scan the vehicle and pull out DTCs, at the very least. Once we get some clues, then post again with this information. The fact that the CEL is on says that you have a DTC. The possibilities are endless. Good luck to you.

  • dose any body know if a faulty vss can make a car turn stall when its not moving

  • that might mean that u have an air leak on ur regulator above the airfilter box. wen i unhooked mine it works perfectly

  • @Deelow11206 Sorry for the delay. When you posted I wasn't replying to posts due to time constraints. Yes it can, depending on the vehicle. On Chryslers the VSS shorts out and knocks out the MAP, TPS and other sensors. End result, the vehicle won't shift and on others it won't start. Of the 5 volt ref. and ground is shared then a shorted VSS will kill all shared sensors. Good luck. Mandy.

  • no that has nothing to do with it... could be a coil or a bad fuel pump

  • Thanks for the advice Mr Hawkings . You are indeed a fountain of knowledge , whether its is the workings of time space and the universe or in this case VSS assistance .

  • i love his voice!!!

  • thanks very very.. cool thank again
