Grab your tools and lay them next to the hydrant, Grab the 6inch line wrap it around the hydrant and yell "Lay Line!" Then once enough hose is out open the hydrant, Flush it then connect the line and wait for the call for water. =P
Hey,Theres a first time for everything !The fact that there were others around who weren,t yelling or helping tells Me it was a drill.Rookies need to make mistakes
Im assuming this is a a new rookie. I've been a volunteer for 3 years now and consider myself a rookie until I learn or see it all, since that is impossible I will always be a rookie. However.. aside that this is hilarious, obviously its training and hopefully this was a lesson well taught to the newbie prior to any working fire. Thanks for the giggles, maybe you can get one of him push starting a quickie saw..
Ok Junior Firefighters and Probies of YouTube, we get the point. You can do this. Good for you. Saying how good you are at it doesn't make his situation any better.
training training training!!! If we dont screw up we will never learn. BTW when I was going through rookie school a guy did what he did (too much LDH pulled around the hydrant) and the coupling caught in the truck bed and almost took out his ankles when it came undone around the hydrant. Could have been a bad day... oh yeah and I wanted to kill someone because of that music... my GOD I hate that crap
hmmmm maybe he was a rookie or a jr that might be why he didnt know how to use that stuff not every fireman has 30 years experience got to start somewhere
wow thats the slowest i have ever seen anyone hit a hydrant lol i have been on my department for 7 years and never in my time have i seen a firefighter not hit a hydrant in under a min
well we have a guy like this and we had a CO call yesterday, now im only a junior but i can hit a hydrant faster than this guy, we have a guy like this at out station, and if the house caught fire yesterday we woulda been fucked, im the only that grabbed a radio off the rig and he was supposed to ohh well shit happens...
Don't call these guys if you have a fire. Maybe the crew from the local fast food place could respond more quickly and put out your fire with a dozen cold drinks.
@GraceJustSharted --- Hey, I'm a volunteer FF with almost 10 years' experience and , even when I was fresh out of the academy, I NEVER did something like this !
He should have given himself more slack before wrapping the hose around the hydrant and untwisted the hose from the nozzle end instead of the opposite. He also should have had the hydrant wrench out and ready before pulling the hose.
@BUICK925 You apparently know nothing about fire fighting sweetheart. You wrap the hose around the hydrant and signal for the driver to pull the truck forward and the hydrant holds the end of the hose in place so that when the engine is moved the rest of the hose will fall off in a line, ready to use. Then you unwrap the hose and continue with the attatchment of the hose to the hydrant. Look it up if you still think you are correct and this fire fighter is wrong.
@Medievalfan94 Actually it takes a little more than a few seconds. Yes this guy was having a tad bit of trouble lol but there are several things you have to do before you just hook up the hose and go. Become a firefighter and maybe you will learn a little something ;)
Im a junior firefighter and i may be wrong but we didn't pull a double roll...So right away theres either not enough line or somethings obstructing it....and not only that you should always open the cap sticking out foward first...check if there is any garbage obstructing it...Then do the rest.
I just hope this was his first time catching the hydrant so we all had to start somewhere and that is the first time I seen a hydrant wrench inside a tool box ours are always on the back and sides of the trucks
its a training exercise dumb shit, quit whining about paying tax you gigantic baby, everyone is new at there job at some point and dont know how everything works ok, so how about you drop a big shut the fuck up on youtube and stop pretending you know everything ok dipshit
@FireEagle1071ad Yea this was obviously a real emergency and not a training exercise for a green rookie, because i know every time i hook a hydrant,we ALWAYS have pre set up portable lights,at least 2 ,to light the area up.....
Yes it shall remain anonymous....for their own sake.....the funniest thing was that one of the guys came out laughing from behind the enginge guess he just didn't wanna do it in front of the probi.....
You know, if you guys would just pull booster lines and use tank water, the water goes alot further no need for hydrants. Ever hear of John Bean (FMC) high pressure fog??? Thats scientific firefighting.
wow, at my dept we went out training and were hitting hydrants, and i thought when it took me 1 min and 40 sec to hook up a 5" ldh and a 2-1/2 crank valve that i was a slow jr! haha, but all new guys are different so.......
my opinion: i wouldn't be mad at the rookie, i'd be mad at the instructors, the second he wrapped the hose around the fire hydrant they should have started helpin him, not stand there with their thumb up their bumb to get kicks and giggles out of it
While it seems easy to everyone sitting at home or volunteer firefighters on the job, and well it is pretty simple...But For a rookie being watched by a bunch of older senior members (or instructors) its quite nerve racking. He'll catch the hang of it. Good to work the kinks out in training.
Why are people being so nasty? This is obviously a training exercise and I'll put money that is a first ever attempt for this guy. What? You're telling me that all you salty sorts did this the first time without screwing up? Wow, must be awesome being so infallible.
That was awful, and humiliating. I sure hope that was his first time trying to hit a hydrant, if so it's a bit more justifiable This is why I always press the issue of training. So things like this don't happen on the fireground.
Thats horrible... Hope u r volunteer, and if you are, he shouldnt be hooking up your hydrants anymore. hope thats not my house burning on the other end of the line.
Im sure this is just a re enactment, but if not, why are u holding the camera and not helping?
fucking rookies who taught you to wrap the hose around the hydrant then walk around thinking wait a minute somrthing is not right walk around a again and then you remeber you forgot the tool box grab that come back wrap hose up even more take off the caps spend next 10 mins trying to figure out how the hose goes on then unwrap it hook it up and then your told the fires out time to go home.
are you kidding me im not even a firefighter but I know how to hook up a firehydrant and hose!!!! if your not enthusiastic about being a firefighter then dont do it cause its not exactly a career youll become rich doing!!!!
ok so the hose goes here. and i wrap it around the hydrant how many times? ok and then i take the kink out. then um i unwrap it right? oh ok ill go back the other way. so now i put it on? ok um it doesnt fit. i think ill just go back to the firehouse :D
miss. mathews we are sorry to inform you that your house burned down because of incompetence, we also will not be reimbursing you for the damages, sorry.
@deskset24 u do that so when the truck drives down the street to where it needs to go the hose will stay, if u try to just hold on to the hose u will get dragged, this guy has to be retarded or sumthen tho, he didnt even know what way he wrapped it in the first place lol

lol dude that was a drill I'm pretty sure of it haha. He's obviously a probie and I bet he can work a hydrant 10 times faster now. I'd like to see you work a hydrant
@zachford111 ha, shows how dumb you are. You're supposed to wrap it around and step on it so that you can signal the driver to move the truck to the fire. Know your shit before you say something.
There isn't even a real fire. A set of portable lights doesn't just pop up out of nowhere for them to hook up the hydrant. This video's poorly titled and put here to mislead.
This isn't funny all it is a video of a guy who made a mistake so what.. you people are total fucking retards.. you criticize people for this shit yet you hate it when people give you grief about the stupid crap you do..
wow, he probably doesn't even have his Firefighter Section 1 training complete i guess... but anyways, as a fellow firefighter, i found this hilarious!
This was obviously some type of training.. Give the guy some slack, that may have been the first time he ever done that with ppe on.

wow stupid you put the damn thing infront of it dont wrap it around
zachford111 1 year ago
@zachford111 ha, shows how dumb you are. You're supposed to wrap it around and step on it so that you can signal the driver to move the truck to the fire. Know your shit before you say something.

Can you say retarded? I hope this is not an emergency. My grandmother can lay LDH and bang a hydrant better then that in her sleep.

Not to be rude but the title is very misleading. The video was not very funny

@Newbpwng for example when i started in construction they left me after work to watch the concrete dry.

There isn't even a real fire. A set of portable lights doesn't just pop up out of nowhere for them to hook up the hydrant. This video's poorly titled and put here to mislead.

This isn't funny all it is a video of a guy who made a mistake so what.. you people are total fucking retards.. you criticize people for this shit yet you hate it when people give you grief about the stupid crap you do..

most of them may be "assholes" but I bet you won't say that when your house is burning down and your live is saved by one.
