Pretty, but riddled with inaccuracies and glaring omissions. The arcade and PC gaming worlds are woefully underrepresented and completely missing respectively, and the "great crash" of the Atari age never really "destroyed" video games at all, the market just moved to arcades and PCs. Nintendo didn't "save" anything, other than possibly by making gaming more childish and simplified compared to PC and arcade cabinets of the time.
@PlantainHurricane I would have liked to include everything from the Spectrum to Vectrex, but due to tight deadlines(this being a uni project) I had to leave out things like handhelds and home computers. basically leaving only the most prominent players in the videogame industry as a whole
The crash destroyed retailers confidence in the console industry. Home computers continued to do well because retailers saw them as more than just fad toys
Thats why I called this a BRIEF History of videogames
@PlantainHurricane Judging by your comments about nintendo and consoles in general, I'm going to assume you're a dedicated PC gamers, and are offended that I left out your preferred gaming medium to make room for all those "childish" console games.
Fact is; popularity-wise, in the 80s consoles(specifically Nintendo) completely owned anything in the PC industry at the time.
example: how many people have even heard of Elite, or Miner Willy.
Now how many people have heard of mario, sonic or tetris?
This is amazing! Great Job what did you use to composit all that . Your 3d IS amazing!! Check Out my visual effects and motion graphic movies! Best one is Creepy Walls
khdownes1 should do a visual history of the mental retardation that afflicts his family, and how this said afflication has hit him triple fold and caused him to create youtube video's that give autism a bad name. Can't be much worse that the literal shit he keeps dumping onto youtube for everyone to make fun of. Wheres Cops on Bikes 2, shitheel? Guess financing crappy short films using savings from flipping burgers and serving fries must be pretty tough in todays economy.
This must have taken you aaaages. The 3D consoles look amazing and the animation is very very good too. You must have got a very very high grade for this.
It was released mainly in Japan, then US...If you ever played the red MVS arcade units where you could pick up to 4 different games to play that was a Neo Geo.
The AES was a 100% true arcade experience at home but games were $250 and the system was $600....most people rented it due to cost...now you can buy consolized MVS units which games are MUCH cheaper!!!! theres probable a history on youtube about SNK...the maker of Neo Geo
Nicely done video but it's sort boring and uninformative if you don't already have personal history with these consoles. If I showed this to my mom she'd think it was the visual history of plastic boxes. Couldn't had hurt to accompany them with some gameplay footage so you could see what they actually did. As a chronological telling of "which came first" it's good, but only to already gamers.
I don't know if I would have just slapped gameplay footage in there. But I was going to have sprites or characters from each of the consoles jumping around them (like I did with the little mario karts), however I didn't have time to do all of that.
Plus, ultimately the main point of this project was just to present my technical abilities with 3D modelling, and get me a job.
Also, I'm not sure your mum would have found this all that interesting either way.
Dreamcast FTW

its pronouced Sey Gah
TehLulShow 2 years ago
In Australia, most people pronounce it "Seegah", in America, most people pronounce it "sey gah"
But theyre both wrong, it's really pronounced "Seh gah"

What about the Neo Geo AES:(....1991-2003 (last game was 2003 so really 1991-2001/02)
jdigitalseven 3 years ago
Was the NEO Geo AES very popular? I don't it was released down here in Australia, so I don't know much about it.
There's a lot of consoles I didn't include like the colecovision, or the PC-engine etc. I just tried to keep it to the most mainstream consoles.

Yeah I know what you mean.

Yeah content aside, presentation-wise it's really nice and I can see why you got hired.
Scarabus82 3 years ago
cock, the sega dreamcast came before the ps2, gamecube or xbox, you fail.
thebibleisfiction 3 years ago
lol, I knew that would piss of at least a few Dreamcast fanboys!
But seriously, I love my Dreamcast (except how the vmu drains through batteries like a mofo)
It was just easier for the overall flow of the video to slot the Dreamcast in after the cube, that before the PS2 where it's meant to be.

Is it just me, or did the announcer pronounce Sega as "Seega"?
Tricksterknight 3 years ago
Yeah. I think it's an Australian thing, I say seega too.
Like how American say aloominum, rather than aluminium.
khdownes1 3 years ago
oh cool. yeah i can the whole Aloominum. lol.
kinda sucks for Americans, Oh Well.
Yeah im from America Don't hold it against me. lol.

Very well done. I like the charm of the old games. Graphics looking "more real" doesn't always equal "better"
