  • his face creeps me out

  • Already, the look on his face is freaking me out. It is the complete opposite of... authentic or soothing.... Thank goodness, he relaxes it. ... something about this doesn't work for me... maybe it's the key... the way he vocalizes it.... .... mmmm.... not liking this.

  • Just so brilliantly and poignantly done, Chris.

  • Almost two years after I first heard you sing this, I still love it. It's a beautiful interpretation..

  • very good...i felt it. i love this song and you did a very good job of making it for a man.

  • pretty but i think Vicky Clark conveys the emotion better

  • this is the best version on youtube.

  • this is REALLY good

and yes this song CAN be sung by a man

it's called taking the song out of context...you can change the story of the song to fit you...my friend sang it and changed the context to be a 17 year old girl who had to give up her child to a close friend because she couldn't raise it and this is her talking to her child in it's cradle...its an artistic choice

    great job!

  • @DanRiffsAlot

Yes and no. It's one thing to tweak a song to make it more personal (which is what Dilley does here), and it's another thing to change the lyrics of a song because you're afraid of them (as I've seen other groups do when they think they might offend some of the audience). I've sung this version of this song, too, but while I love to hear Audra McDonald sing "Some Days", but there's no way I'd ever sing it myself--singing a song about praying isn't something I'd ever do.

  • okay well if you don't like what you hear, DONT LISTEN! He is doing a great job!

  • this context works 2 in my opinion, a gay man wishing he could have a kid

tho i do see your point

  • you have a gorgeous voice, i dont know why your straining it to sound higher though. and watch your "S"s. but otherwise it was great.

  • thats how he sings and he did sing for years in the kinsey sicks (the worlds 1st dragopella singing group)

  • pretty good but its a little wierd when he says the uncle billy cant say no uncle billy holds to tight and that stuff. but otherwise its good

  • not the best singer, but good performance. Though, "uncle billy's really not your uncle anyway" adds a slight creepiness to the piece I just can't shake.

  • i think hes trying to say the babies mother is trying to create a space between him and his nephew

  • I don't care for his voice at all. I love Audra's version soooooooooooooooooooo much more. But I do like how he changed the words. Now I can use this!

  • I like Audra's version better, but he is very good at interpreting!

  • Also, I love how he changed the words!

  • @Brandon21694

Yeah, but that's not a fair comparison. An Audra McDonald comes along once in a generation at most, and then only if we're incredibly lucky.

  • I wish he were a bit more mindful of pitch, but DAMN his interpretation of songs is really incredible! You gotta check out this guys other stuff too. If I'm ever near and he's got a cabaret going I'm there.

  • Oops...wanted to mention that...didn't Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt write this song?

  • I think I was wrong. Ignore me. ;)

  • That was absolutely beautiful. I was just watching Audra McDonald perform this song, thinking...I'm going to add this to my rep. How would I change the words? I would change Lizzie to Billy..hmm...ok...and then I saw that a guy was singing it! Yay! Then I watched. Wow...what an incredibly moving performance. Congratulations. Keep doing this piece. You do an absolutely wonderful job. Thank you for posting this.

  • This is the first time I've heard you sing, ever, and I have to say you are wonderful.

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • i was incredibly moved by this interpretation of the song. thank you. your performance had me on the verge of tears. especially when you said "papa"

    :) way to go.

  • Having a gay man sing this makes such sense, adds to the poignoincy (sp?). That said, this guy makes you realize how incredibly talented Audra McDonald is. This is a VERY difficult song, and the combination of major note leaps, long phrases without a breath and pitch problems are a little evident, but bang up job and balls for taking it on.

  • I love your take on this beautiful song. I got a bit vehrklempt there for a second...

  • Wow! What can you say after that? He's not the next Sinatra, nor the next Harry Connick, or Mandy Patinkin... he is THIS... the *first* Chris Dilley... and may all the success in the world be his.
