Already, the look on his face is freaking me out. It is the complete opposite of... authentic or soothing.... Thank goodness, he relaxes it. ... something about this doesn't work for me... maybe it's the key... the way he vocalizes it.... .... mmmm.... not liking this.
it's called taking the song out of context...you can change the story of the song to fit you...my friend sang it and changed the context to be a 17 year old girl who had to give up her child to a close friend because she couldn't raise it and this is her talking to her child in it's cradle...its an artistic choice
Yes and no. It's one thing to tweak a song to make it more personal (which is what Dilley does here), and it's another thing to change the lyrics of a song because you're afraid of them (as I've seen other groups do when they think they might offend some of the audience). I've sung this version of this song, too, but while I love to hear Audra McDonald sing "Some Days", but there's no way I'd ever sing it myself--singing a song about praying isn't something I'd ever do.

The fact is that this is a song meant for a woman, one that a man shouldn't sing. The original context is a woman miscarried and he friend had a baby and she wants it to be hers and be there for it.
As far as good singing goes he at least matched pitch he is airy and an alright singer... but some songs that are written for a woman are meant to never be touched by a man... this being one of them
not the best singer, but good performance. Though, "uncle billy's really not your uncle anyway" adds a slight creepiness to the piece I just can't shake.
I don't care for his voice at all. I love Audra's version soooooooooooooooooooo much more. But I do like how he changed the words. Now I can use this!
I wish he were a bit more mindful of pitch, but DAMN his interpretation of songs is really incredible! You gotta check out this guys other stuff too. If I'm ever near and he's got a cabaret going I'm there.
That was absolutely beautiful. I was just watching Audra McDonald perform this song, thinking...I'm going to add this to my rep. How would I change the words? I would change Lizzie to Billy..hmm...ok...and then I saw that a guy was singing it! Yay! Then I watched. Wow...what an incredibly moving performance. Congratulations. Keep doing this piece. You do an absolutely wonderful job. Thank you for posting this.
Having a gay man sing this makes such sense, adds to the poignoincy (sp?). That said, this guy makes you realize how incredibly talented Audra McDonald is. This is a VERY difficult song, and the combination of major note leaps, long phrases without a breath and pitch problems are a little evident, but bang up job and balls for taking it on.
Wow! What can you say after that? He's not the next Sinatra, nor the next Harry Connick, or Mandy Patinkin... he is THIS... the *first* Chris Dilley... and may all the success in the world be his.
his face creeps me out

you have a gorgeous voice, i dont know why your straining it to sound higher though. and watch your "S"s. but otherwise it was great.

I like Audra's version better, but he is very good at interpreting!

Also, I love how he changed the words!

Yeah, but that's not a fair comparison. An Audra McDonald comes along once in a generation at most, and then only if we're incredibly lucky.
