Since 1967, there have only been 12 fatal accidents with this plane: 9 crashes, 2 landing overruns (incl this one) and an aborted takeoff. The Il-62 has a much lower hull loss rate than other airliners of its day (Boeing 707, DC8, VC10) and not one fatal accident for almost 2 decades (between1989 and 2009). It is a very safe plane by any measure but this one came in at 197mph (landing speed for IL-62 is 145-165 mph) and it overran the runway through a perimeter wall.

wow. nasty comments. but since i don't understand what she is saying.... where is the nose of the aircraft? I couldn't tell if it was under the plane, like they ran over it. It is a Russian plane. Sadly parts for these planes are getting limited so they aren't replaced like they should be. A lot of countries and/or airlines can only afford these old Russian planes.

I know why it crashed...because it does not have a cockpit...or even a pilot. There's ya problem. Next time try not to fly without fitting a cockpit to the plane, it can be dangerous. I know id worry if my plane looked like that when i boarded, nice view out the front though
