so i just wana say that this season had good singer but none moved ppl like Tamyra Gray, Kelly Clarkson, or Justin Gurerini>> they always keep ppl wanting more and gave ppl chills cause of how powerful they sung
I forgot that Kimberly Locke did this song before Katharine McPhee. And now that I hear it... Katharine took many approaches to this song similar to Kimberly. That now makes her performance much more artificial.
I love both verisons from Katharine McPhee and Kimberly Locke. The approach from both is different. Kim only has 1 minute and 19 seconds to impress America. However she performed SOTR twice before the Top 36. When the top 32 came around she sang it for a 3rd time I began to wonder is this all she could sing. Katharine combined 2 verisons of the song. Eva Cassidy's and I believe Judy Garlands. Her approach is gentle and haunting. It takes you to another place. Kat blew her vocal cords top 3 week
Wooow!!! Pretty impressive and breathtaking! I kind of liked it more than Katharine's but both are really good!!! One of my favorite performances from her :P
I disagree. I think Season 2;s individual performances stand out better than season 6. Besides Melinda's constant amazing performances, what other performance stood out? Jordin's 'I Who Have Nothing'? That's it. Season 6 didn't have a 'Solatiare' or 'I Have Hothing' or 'New York State of Mind' type performance like Season 2 did. Know what I mean?
@KrisAllisonKelly4evr I wasn't much of a Blake fan. To me, he was nothing more than a gimmick. There were some good voices in Season 6...I just don't think many stood out.
Even though I never met this singer before, I believe she is beautiful and talented and has the weapons neccessary to move mountains and to build for black men who have been challenged in Faith and in their search for hope and love.
I have to agree with something.. Its rushed .. so for that i dont like it .. but however.. Kim lockes Vocals .. are superior to what idol has turned into...they cant find talent like that... anymore...
season 6 the worst? what about melinda, lakisha, jordin, gina glocksen?
in all honesty, i feel this was the worst season, dont get me wrong, kim lockes amazing, but reuben was a bad winner, and clay was the only other memorable person with kim.
I like this version better than mcphee's, it is simpler and more honest i think. but my all time favourite version has got to be Eva Cassidy's. Now HERS made me cry...
if this was between katharine mcphee, leona lewis and kim locke, it would be a tie betweeen leona and kim, both did this song justice in 2 very different ways. i just wish kim couldve done the entire song. brilliant though, and still my favorite song of hers.
This was what... four/five years ago? Still to this very day it gives me the chills. There is not even a contest between her version and mcphee's version... Kimberley's is landslides better. She has such a minimal arrangement than mcphee's (her's was over orchestrated and her register was weak for the bulk of the song) and her (kim's) vocals are flawless and just WOW.
haha! Brav I was just saying that as I even listened to Kim's version at her audition which was acapella when Randy says that she has so much control. 2003 baby!! I still would have wished for a Frenchie/Kimnerley finale but oh well.
sorry katherine mcFEVER's version was soo gentle...and was sung with such control and ease...if they remade the wizard of oz she should sing that song again. her version ...ugh made me cry.
McPhee's version is good, I enjoy it. However this version is considerably better. Not only does this have more soul, Locke's voice adds a richness to it that McPhees airy voice cannot.
Katharine Mcphee's version is SO much better than this. Kimberely Locke is an amazing singer, but she put barely any emotion into the song. When Katharine performed it, I was absolutely amazed at how emotional it was, and this doesn't even compare.
I disagree. They emoted it in different ways. I can truly say I love them about equally. I may like Kim's a little more but there were both world class performances!
My God, those notes go right through me. Incredible. Katnip McBeaver's melodramatic, whiny performance of this song from AI Season Five simply cannot compare to the raw power of Kimberley Locke's voice here.
I love Kim's version. It is without a doubt my favorite version but don't shit on Kat's version! It was so elegant! It was really simple and Kat sang it brilliantly. It was just the melody, the song, the emotions and Kat's voice!
doesnt even compare with mcphees version, kim's is great!plus this was not a finale or near finale performance where they had full orchestra and lights etc..
Well I think she CAN be compared to Diana DeGarmo because they do have similar powerful voices. However, since they didnt' sing the same song... lol.
I love em' both though. I was not crazy about Katherine McPhee's version... can't believe Simon said that was the best performance to date. Then again they say that every season at least once... its a powerful statement that'd beginning to lose it's power, lol.
Maybe it's the audio problem...It's make me though that Leona and Katherine is better...But all of them are sucess...KIMBERLEY is 3rd place for AMERICAN IDOL 2.KATHERINE is 2nd place for AMERICAN IDOL 5. LEONA is the winner for X-FACTOR...
Kimberley Locke undeniably performed the best rendtion of this song so far. You can't compare her to Diana Degarmo. Diana didn't even sing this song, plus Kimberley is better than her.
the vocals for this performance were stunning, but Katherine's performance of this song was still amazing... the way she performed this song.. made u almost wanna cry... Kimberley is a better singer than Kat McPhee, but when it comes to performing this song.. kat was better
