How many tackles did he break/how many guys did he truck in this highlight video? I counted ~ 5 total combined. Like others have said, he looks to be an average NFL RB at best. Good luck.
He's quick not fast but I noticed he runs hard and he gets first downs so what he doesn't frickin out run everyone Brandon Jacobs was pretty darn good and I think Thomas will be better he's has some beast stats anyway
With the Dolphins getting Mike Pouncey, Daniel Thomas, and looking for more Halfbacks probably by free agency, the Dolphins COULD have an good run game than they had last season.
ireland wat did u see in this mediocre player to be willing to give up picks? u gotdamn idiot cant spot talented players..i can see it now "the dolphins had a good D but never won the SB cos they didnt have a runnin game" seriously how can that moron be our GM? this player is not startin material
Not too impressed. Seems to get stopped alot after 10 yards. Not a lot of big tackle breaking runs. Hope he is worth giving up a 3rd and a 5th round pick for.
the sooner that moron jeff ireland gets fired the better..not only did he draft this average player but he gave up picks to get this player lol!! ireland u clueless moron just made the dolphins less competitive....damien berry looks better than this player n we can have berry for free n if this fool was a good talent evaluator we could have wr hankerson or a better rb...fuckin idiots need to get fired
Why are we talking about this gay ass song????? This type of music does suck but we should be focusing on daniel thomas. Any way I like this pick he'll be alright give him chance Dolphin fans.
"Hes not fast" "Hes no QB" "Hes not the next ricky williams" All i see is bitching from all you fair weather fans. He was a solid pick and will be productive in his time with us. So what if hes not Chris Johnson, Larry Csonka wasnt a track star himself either. Hes a good old fashoned blue collar bruiser. And he has 3 things AP Chris johnson or frank gore dont Lousaka Polite, Jake Long, and Mike Pouncey
i dont think that he will bring much to the dolphins unfortunately... he didnt have many power moves, ran through wide open holes and his speed is not compareable to great runningbacks in the nfl. in this video all he did was spin and in the nfl the spin move really dont work very often because the defensive postions are more skilled, better trained, and hit harder. not very impressed with this running back. just another dolphins bust pick. future tedd ginn jr.
@basshead37 hey dipshit you do realize he is 6-0 230 lbs... he looks pretty fast and powerful... you do realize he carried the ball in 2010 298 att for 1585 yards and 19 tds.... is matt forte or knowshon moreno super fast???? he looks like steven jackson, is plenty fast for the nfl, and if he starts right away will be in a perfect running system to use his talents. he is a better runner then Ricky and Ronnie sorry phins fans
@jeffreypsl1 He can get yards and move the chains? Thats kinda what running backs are for. I hate to break it to you but theres not much ricky williams and chris johnsons out there. Theres nothing wrong with a good old fashioned blue collar bruising RB who can break tackles and he runs a 4.5.
I hope to god we dont get McNabb he is old and wat happened to him in washington is embrassing. I just hope we can give Chad Henne one more shot. With the picks of Mike Pouncey and Daniel Thomas we got a pretty good draft class. Dolphins Fan 4 Life.

@VitaminC314 I've heard that Miami will try to get Donovan McNabb in FA, which isn't all bad. He's still got a little gas in the tank. And with Brandon Marshall to throw it to, I see that being a huge pickup. Maybe go for a Franchise QB next Draft.

@zebutto I played pop warner with daniel thomas (Hilliard Flashes baby). It brings a tear to my eye watching him play now. He was one of the finest kids that i knew growing up. He will undoubtly go far.
Dolphin fans: I've watched this guy every home game this past season and I believe he'll be a very good play for your team, he's a bruiser who will give your team short yardage when you need it and will give you some good long runs although he's not the fastest so he might get caught by one of the faster players on D. I have no idea where these so-called "durability issues" came from because he had no problems at K-State, other than that he can do a lot.
Think about it we have two guys that can throw it over there heads. The dude threw a 41 yard pass with ease last season. It wouldn't neccesarily be the wildcat, it just threatens a defense the same way the wildcat would. Guess what? We'd be running it every plays he's in there. Makes perfect sense now.
You know what? I'm kind of excited about this pick now. We traded up to get him for a reason. After digging up videos of his passing he could change the dimension of how play offense. He's a big physical guy, so on sweep plays or outside runs he can throw it ever other play. An agressive defense like the Jets can't be as quick to move up and make a tackle cuz he can throw it. Either way if he can do that then he has to be accounted for every play. ***Continued
Daniel, congratulations on being selected by the Miami Dolphins in the 2011 NFL Draft. I live in South Carolina and can say that the Dolphins have a big fan base here. Best of luck.
who the fuck picks this kind of song, especially for a power back breaking tackles. pair him with a speed back and it can be a deadly combination in miami
Not second round talent. We should have tried to get Mikel Leshoure. Very unsexy pick were having a bad draft so far. Hopefully we land Casey Matthews and/or one of those good quarterbacks Greg Mcelroy or Par Devlin. That would be awesome.
@mello503 the Bengals FO has already admitted that they were going to take DT with the 2nd pick of the third round. That's why the Dolphins moved up to get him. Daniel was rated as the 2nd or 3rd best running back in the draft, but he has, BY FAR, the most upside, since he's only been a RB for 2 seasons. The guy AVG'd 5.2 YPC against a stacked box and was also has back to back BIG 12 Rushing Titles.
welcome to Miami Daniel Thomas GO DOLPHINS!!!!! I even said that we need to get younger at running back and gosh the Dolphins are getting smarter thank you Phins!!!!!! this guy looks like a beast to me!!!! LETS GO DOLPHINS
According to some of you so called experts , Emmit Smith would be way too slow to break a long td run huh.
His forty time was much worse than D Thomas
But when you got vision, cut back back agilty, and power to run through you can bust a run to the house.
FINALLY THE DOLPHINS PICK SOMEONE I CONSIDERED A HIGH SLEEPER. RUN BEHIND LONG AND POUNCY D. WE WILL GET YOU A SCAT BACK TOMMORROW , HUNTER/DEVINE/TAIWAN JONES/JACQUIZZ
im dolphins fan so lets see what he does in the offense and you other dolphins dont think negative you didnt see him play yet for us so lets see first
So stupid to trade up for this guy. The only silver lining is that these assholes will be fired because of these picks. I hate Bill Parcells and I hate Jeff Ireland. At least Sparano tries but fuck him too. I love the Dolphins but we need management thats smart and has a pair. Trading up to draft Ronnie Brown 2.0 is not going to get us over the top. Not now and not ever. Case in point, Ricky Williams rushed for 1800 yds and we still didn't make the playoffs.
@flippnbricks2o8 Basically you are arguing that Running Backs don't do anything since you are bringing up Ricky's stats from 9 years ago. We got the top OLineman in the draft, one of the top 5 RBs in the draft. Also going by the value chart of draft picks the 62nd pick is worth 284 Points. The 3rd, 5th and 7th was worth 233.4 points. Teams consult this when trading picks. Miami did well. Look for them to trade down their 4th rounder.
@flippnbricks2o8 Ok, so what should they have done? Should they have 11 Quarterbacks on the offense since QB's get you to superbowls? I want a Superbowl too, but these are positions that can't be ignored. Especially the O-Line, which was the Achilles heel of the team last year.
I regardless if you prefer hip hop or rock music as background music in a highlight, this song is terrible!!!! If you hate hip hop music, you could have use heavy metal music!! GOD DAMM!!
Yooo this kid will be decent. but there is still hope in that reggie bush will be a free agent. Also give henne a small break we lost our guards and centers last year. plus special teams FUKKED us over n over . trust sparano and Jeff they got us Langford Misi Clemons Smith Hartline Bess Rashad Jones Carroll these are KIDS with massive talent and of course WAKE+ Odrick is back, remeber the 1st defensive series against buffallo. "WE" took Spiller's swagger that day
I just heard a draft expert say that Thomas can run the "wild cat offense" in Miami. One problem, they stopped using that offense last year after teams learned how to stop it. Another terrible pick by the Miami front office. It's very simple in today's NFL. No QB means no offense. Henne isn't the answer and their front office refuses to draft a QB. How could they pass on Mallet that late in the 2nd round?
this guy would still be available in the 4th n he traded up to get this guy heehee n we lost the 3rd round didnt we? or wat did we give up to get this guy? poor dolphins....
@TheBasqueLand Actually I'm not. Stats don't lie. He was never injured the two years at kstate unlike murray every year. DT was a qb in juco and rushed for over 1000 yds his first year ever playing the position. He's gonna help get that shitty organization in miami out of the cellar thats for sure
@Lewistyle10 this guy is not a gamebreaker like murray is...dont u have eyes or wat? murray wouldve helped us alot...sux to be a dolphins fan lately cos of morons like ireland
@TheBasqueLand He's more of an NFL style running back than murray. Trust me I've watched murray every year since he's been there and yeah he's shown flashes of being good but gets hurt way to often. Dan on the other hand like I said has nowhere to go but up with only two years at the position the sky is the limit. You'll realize this once he gets to Miami.
He is a hard runner for sure. He seems a little tall to be an NFL RB; he might be converted over to a slot WR. Who knows though, he might be a good NFL RB. Time will only tell.
the music is all wrong. even though you have a rock edition, the standard "tailback busting loose on everybody" music is typically HIP-HOP. stop rationalizing and just accept the comments and change the music already :p
@Gamergrrl1 Daniel Thomas doesn't break lose, though. He's more of a pound you in the face with his stiff arm kind of guy. Also, I fucking hate hip hop
@DoDRepeat For sure I hate hip-hop too! Rapping sounds so stupid to me. I was just pointing out the accepted norm: people use hip-hop for running back vids. it's your post though :)
Also yah that's the thing: Daniel Thomas is not a threat to take it all the way. Who wants a guy early in the draft who can't do that. Mikel Leshoure on the other hand...
@Gamergrrl1 You'd be surprised at how many NFL backs run in the 4.6 range. When he ran that it didn't hurt or help his stock, it was pretty much what was expected. Gotta remember the guy is 6'2 230.. Plus he was the only threat on the K-State offense.. And he was banged up all year. He ran the same 40 as Leshoure.
@DoDRepeat Hi. I think you may have misunderstood me. I wasn't talking about pure speed at all. That has alot less to do with it than being able to shake defenders, make people miss, and follow your blocking. Those are the things that home run threats do. Mikel does those better than Daniel, imho. I wasn't factoring pure speed into it much at all. Sure, in the open field that is totally going to make a difference, but you're right most backs run in the same range on their 40 times.

@gatorfan122394 Firstly, I don't have any "music" on Youtube, so what could you possibly be referring to? Secondly, way to sound like a 10 yr. old. That's an elementary school comeback, and quite lame.
im so excited for daniel "big boi" thomas, we played on the same high school team hilliard flashes which was pretty much a 1 a school but for him to make it this far makes me proud to brag about growing up with him
Feel bad for Thomas. That offensive line didn't do squat for him. I'm a OSU fan and I think Thomas will have a better NFL career than Hunter and Murray.
I played with him at junior college, and he's an awesome athlete, awesome guy, very humble individual, he has worked for it all. Now he's abt to enjoy his fruits of labor
@DGMikeBarker Don't disagree about the first part, but the second part--the Ron Dayne comparison--doesn't make much sense. Dayne was a rumbler, a north-south runner with slow feet. Whatever failing Dayne has an NFL rusher, running with finesse for his size surely wasn't one of them. Again, more like he cut slower than a dull knife through a steel bar.
i just found otu that he went to hilliard middle senior high school. i was in like 8th grade when he was a senior. never knew the guy, that was before i ever really cared bout football. if i knew he would be an all american and enter the nfl draft i would have got his auto graph. nice to see someone from my hometown doing something great.
Do I think Daniel Thomas is Mark Ingram? No but, you people are being way too picky with this guy. I agree his pad level could be lower, and he could be a more "physical" runner but, he breaks enough tackles already. He could lower his shoulder more but, it's not that big off issue. Thomas is a good back, and should be a nice RB for whoever drafts him.
Give me a break with the whole he goes down easily thing. The dude broke numerous tackles in the highlight. Thomas is good at getting to the edge when he runs outside, his burst/acceleration when a hole opens for him is good not great, he's good at reading his blocks, and letting the blocks develop, and then hitting the hole but, he does sometime does run into his blockers. Lastly I would say his vision is good.
Ok who ever made this video has no taste in Football music. It was just a distraction to the the great football so dont ever make a video again!! YOU WOULD DO US ALL A GREAT FAVOR;)
Ok who ever made this video has no taste in Football music. It just was a distraction to the the great football so dont ever make a video again!! YOU WOULD DO US ALL A GREAT FAVOR;)
A couple of things that concern me with Thomas going into the next level..One is he runs too high , he's going to have to lower his shoulder pads more or he is going to get killed at the knees.Plus I don't know if its a lower strength issue or what but he goes down pretty easy. No fight for extra or nothing. You hate to see RB's go down by waist tackles that easy. Also with his size , what happened to the art of the stiff arm.You are not going to juke guys like that in the next level.
hes tall witch dont allow him to have good pad level but he is a strong shifty runner good reciver. probly be a good third down back in the nfl second or third rounder. i think the Cincinnati Bengals take him in the second to go along with benson i made this comment on november 19th 2010 so if the bangholes take him in the second im a fucking football genius and im a ravens fan

Teams consult this when trading picks. Miami did well. Look for them to trade down their 4th rounder.

@BonerPirate They don't take you to superbowls. Thats what I want, thats what you should want too.
flippnbricks2o8 10 months ago
@flippnbricks2o8 Ok, so what should they have done? Should they have 11 Quarterbacks on the offense since QB's get you to superbowls? I want a Superbowl too, but these are positions that can't be ignored. Especially the O-Line, which was the Achilles heel of the team last year.

I want it a speedy rb nd we traded up to get him while giving our 3rd pick too smh Ireland come on!!
Zoalltheway 10 months ago
I just heard a draft expert say that Thomas can run the "wild cat offense" in Miami. One problem, they stopped using that offense last year after teams learned how to stop it. Another terrible pick by the Miami front office. It's very simple in today's NFL. No QB means no offense. Henne isn't the answer and their front office refuses to draft a QB. How could they pass on Mallet that late in the 2nd round?
Rev197 10 months ago
this guy would still be available in the 4th n he traded up to get this guy heehee n we lost the 3rd round didnt we? or wat did we give up to get this guy? poor dolphins....

TheBasqueLand 10 months ago
@TheBasqueLand Actually I'm not. Stats don't lie. He was never injured the two years at kstate unlike murray every year. DT was a qb in juco and rushed for over 1000 yds his first year ever playing the position. He's gonna help get that shitty organization in miami out of the cellar thats for sure
Lewistyle10 10 months ago
@Lewistyle10 this guy is not a gamebreaker like murray is...dont u have eyes or wat? murray wouldve helped us alot...sux to be a dolphins fan lately cos of morons like ireland
TheBasqueLand 10 months ago
@TheBasqueLand He's more of an NFL style running back than murray. Trust me I've watched murray every year since he's been there and yeah he's shown flashes of being good but gets hurt way to often. Dan on the other hand like I said has nowhere to go but up with only two years at the position the sky is the limit. You'll realize this once he gets to Miami.
Lewistyle10 10 months ago
@JAYVIL15 and steven jackson is 6' 2'
rickross22 10 months ago
He is a hard runner for sure. He seems a little tall to be an NFL RB; he might be converted over to a slot WR. Who knows though, he might be a good NFL RB. Time will only tell.

the music is all wrong. even though you have a rock edition, the standard "tailback busting loose on everybody" music is typically HIP-HOP. stop rationalizing and just accept the comments and change the music already :p

@Gamergrrl1 Daniel Thomas doesn't break lose, though. He's more of a pound you in the face with his stiff arm kind of guy. Also, I fucking hate hip hop
DoDRepeat 10 months ago
@DoDRepeat For sure I hate hip-hop too! Rapping sounds so stupid to me. I was just pointing out the accepted norm: people use hip-hop for running back vids. it's your post though :)
Also yah that's the thing: Daniel Thomas is not a threat to take it all the way. Who wants a guy early in the draft who can't do that. Mikel Leshoure on the other hand...
Gamergrrl1 10 months ago
@Gamergrrl1 You'd be surprised at how many NFL backs run in the 4.6 range. When he ran that it didn't hurt or help his stock, it was pretty much what was expected. Gotta remember the guy is 6'2 230.. Plus he was the only threat on the K-State offense.. And he was banged up all year. He ran the same 40 as Leshoure.
DoDRepeat 10 months ago
@DoDRepeat Hi. I think you may have misunderstood me. I wasn't talking about pure speed at all. That has alot less to do with it than being able to shake defenders, make people miss, and follow your blocking. Those are the things that home run threats do. Mikel does those better than Daniel, imho. I wasn't factoring pure speed into it much at all. Sure, in the open field that is totally going to make a difference, but you're right most backs run in the same range on their 40 times.

Feel bad for Thomas. That offensive line didn't do squat for him. I'm a OSU fan and I think Thomas will have a better NFL career than Hunter and Murray.
poopsyproductions 11 months ago
I played with him at junior college, and he's an awesome athlete, awesome guy, very humble individual, he has worked for it all. Now he's abt to enjoy his fruits of labor
blo78tigers 11 months ago
He has great skill but he runs too finesse for his size. Hope he's not the next Ron Dayne.
DGMikeBarker 11 months ago
@DGMikeBarker Don't disagree about the first part, but the second part--the Ron Dayne comparison--doesn't make much sense. Dayne was a rumbler, a north-south runner with slow feet. Whatever failing Dayne has an NFL rusher, running with finesse for his size surely wasn't one of them. Again, more like he cut slower than a dull knife through a steel bar.
Gamergrrl1 9 months ago
@Gamergrrl1 Not real finesse but for a big back Dayne would avoid contact too much. For a 6'0 230lb back, Thomas would whether shake.

Good vision. Hes Mike Mayocks second rated RB right now only behind Mark Ingram.
His burst looks a bit whack but he can be in on three downs which is huge. Riser right here barring anything crazy.

MMAInsight 1 year ago
Give me a break with the whole he goes down easily thing. The dude broke numerous tackles in the highlight. Thomas is good at getting to the edge when he runs outside, his burst/acceleration when a hole opens for him is good not great, he's good at reading his blocks, and letting the blocks develop, and then hitting the hole but, he does sometime does run into his blockers. Lastly I would say his vision is good.

SparkWater 1 year ago
hes tall witch dont allow him to have good pad level but he is a strong shifty runner good reciver. probly be a good third down back in the nfl second or third rounder. i think the Cincinnati Bengals take him in the second to go along with benson i made this comment on november 19th 2010 so if the bangholes take him in the second im a fucking football genius and im a ravens fan
