  • Hi All, I think this horse has ossifying fibrotic myopathy. This happens after the horse over extends its tendons, as in the horse slips and sits or falls down with its hind legs under its stomach. My horse had an accident in a yard where this happened. He was operated on they cut the tendon where it joins onto the muscle. He never became sound but lasted 2 years with this mechanical lameness, untill one day his short stepping hind leg was reaching forward to his elbow and I had him pts.

  • Mo had had his hocks injected many times for arthritis. He started this last July, so I have a vet out, and after blocks, and xrays, he injected his hocks again. Still with no improvement, he injected him again. He never did improve. Another vet said he thought it sounded like fibrotic myopathy, and he would watch the video. After watching, he said that is what it looks like, but he can't be sure without an exam. With this condition, there is no pain, only mechanical lameness. You can do surgery

  • Hi, did you find out any more about this? My 16yo mare has just started a v similar action but only every now and then. Had Mo suffered any kind of trauma before developing this? My mare has also developed quite knotted hind quarters by her tail. Am going to get her looked at by a physio. Would be great to know how you've got on since posting the video...
