WORST MOVIE EVER MADE - IT'S NOT EVEN A FUCKING MOVIE - IT'S A FUCKING SHITTY PRODUCT THAT'S "FORCE" FED THROUGH THE REVOLTING TENTACLES OF THE MOVIE-MEDIA-FASTFOOD-KIDDIETOY CARTEL!
GEORGE LUCAS SHOULD BE INCARCERATED FOR LIFE FOR WHAT HE'S DONE!!
ANYONE WHO DEFENDS THESE PREKILLS IS A FUCKING LOBOTOMIZED RETARD!!
"IT'S SO DENSE, EVERY SINGLE IMAGE HAS SO MANY THINGS GOING ON.." YEAH SHITHEAD - EVERYTHING BUT A STORY THAT PEOPLE CAN ACTUALLY RELATE TO!
So how come George Lucas says it isn't possible to cut large parts of the movie out, yet one guy can make The Phantom Edit, cutting out 20 minutes of the film, and ending up with not only a coherent but a much better product?
Were any of the good parts of A New Hope actually thanks to George? I think it was all the work of everyone else; those drafts with Luke being an old man and Han Solo being a lizard robot were thanks to George though.
It's not his franchise at all, just dumb CR loopholes
its always cool to see the behind the of these movies. THOUSANDS of people put millions of hours into making this epic movie! its cool to see the guys at 3:15 trying to explain and use motion capture which was probably in its earliest stages of being invented back in 98
Its not a bad film , its just dont equal the greatness of the first trilogy but you have to be fucking crasy to think that its sucks.
The pod race , Darth Maul ,Qui gon jin , big monster in the water , its just need more emotion but a solve the probleme. You just have to think that the prequel are like in the 1940 , people were more calm and stric and the first its like in the 1980 , people dont have maners....
@TheStarDeth You can still make good movies about people, whether they're reserved or savage. Lucas just doesn't understand human emotions and interactions.
Visual effects were pretty much the only thing this movie had going for it. Other than that it was so confusing when i was seeing it as a kid. That it took me 4 years after the movie came out to realize that this was a prequel and that the kid was darth vader.
@halo6534 Sad thing is if you look at the cgi today it looks so crummy. Look at what WETA was doing with Lord of the Rings and that will stand up a lot longer.
@seekoober I just saw a trailer for this on a big screen & it looked fantastic. A lot of the Lord of the Rings shots look like shit (Gandalf facing the balrog, the cave troll, the shitty spirits in the dead marshes). But thx for posting a completely predictable comment, it was fun shooting it down!
These guys are far too scared of Lucas. And Lucas had far too much control. He's actually a strong visual director and a great story idea guy and this worked well in the prequels because A; no one thought the movie would work and B; he was an unknown battling against time.
I think its so pleasing to know that George knew this movie was falling apart and everything he imagined in retrospect was not what he wanted to show to the public and you can tell from what hes saying, his facial expressions that he did regret making this film. I can see now that George wanted to go back 2 years again when making this film and restart the writing the script.
@elcap22 Look to me like he maybe knows all too well what's going on lol. But I think perhaps the paradox of the situation is they probably come down to the same thing, in this case...
Does anyone else find it sick and creepy at 0:48 when Lucas says "You know we're never going to beat titanic, nobody can"
Lucas was openly jealous of Titanic's gross- that is sick in some ways- that proves that lucas is greedy and he cares more for how much money the movie makes rather than how good the movie actually is. A true artist with an artistic vision wouldn't care about the top spot and being at number one in the box office
Lucas wanting his movie to be number one is a bit creepy
I guess we'll have to wait 25 years to see if lucas got it right the second time around, this prequels weren't made for us , as the first trilogy wasn't made for our parents, if we see a viral revival of these movies when this kids reach 30, well, i'll have to congratulate Lucas yet again....
@TapasBarAmsterdam Interesting perspective. But I'm afraid that will never happen. I was born several years after ROTJ. But I don't care much for the new trilogy, while I find that the old trilogy is among some of the best movies ever made. My young nephew has already watched all the Star Wars movies. Sometimes we play Lego together and talk about the Star Wars Universe. Surprisenly, all he talks about is the story of the old trilogy, while the "new" movies don't stand so clear
@DaniarRanger I agree. I saw A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back and Phantom Menace in theatres all around age 10, and I liked them all, but I knew the original trilogy was better and seeing TPM didnt come close to my experience and emotional connection to those first 2. Even watching Jedi on VHS was more of an impact than Episode 1, or any of the prequels for that matter
When I read some of the comments here, Im amazed. They sound like "my opinion is a fact". Pure opinions, good or bad. Lucas knows film-making. He has prooven that over the years right?
Jar-Jar was a good character, but he needed toning down a bit. With a character like him, less is more. George should have looked up Frank Spencer from "Some Mothers do ave'em" for reference.
Binks is as important to TPM as Yoda is to ESB. He plays guide to the planet of Naboo and also bring the two main races together. Reading through the screen play, and seeing the concept artwork for Jar Jar - I can see why George thought he would work well. Sadly, George is a crap director. When I heard that he was going to direct the prequels I knew what to expect...but I didn't expect to see him screw up so badly! A good Director would have done more takes...
Not really. You take Binks out of the films it really doesn't effect the story much. You could easily write around Jar Jar not being in the movie. He doesn't add much to the story, and is overall annoying. Padme technically brings the races together , and the movie itself ultimately pointless. You could skip the entire movie and not miss much.
Personally, though, its not Jar-Jar that bothers me but rather the human actors. They really seemed like they couldn't be arsed with the production. There's a French & Saunders piss take of TPM here on YouTube, and it really sums up what I thought about TPM. George has vision, but isn't that much of a director of actors. I can watch ESB and ROTJ any day, but the others(ANH included) I find a bit of a chore to watch.
@Colt2571 yep you can read ricks facial expression he knows its shit and that guy at 5.30 saying you go from comedic to tragedy and so on its a lot, in another words he is saying in a nice way that George you have shove to much shit on screen in no order with no feeling or depth
Is it possible that at this moment, George decided to destroy Star Wars to prove a point? Because as bad as things were for this movie, the next two were almost technically murder... ;)
George needed someone to call him out on his bullshit. He got too wrapped up in controlling everything and in the end, this movie played out more like a set piece for selling special effects, not storytelling. I was very disappointed in this film.
Oh my lord-- George Lucas should not be telling John Williams what to do. The music was the only redeemable part of this movie. Actually, it was the only redeemable part of any of the prequels.
@Ollieshini Haha too true. These shit movies had one interesting thing about them and indeed it was the music :P Which is, actually really fucking pathetic and sad :( Oh well....
@TheNextVinceRusso I love to hear all the complaints about the cost of Jar Jar's suit and how they have too much jumping around to cover everything and all the problems that could have been solved by removing the Jar Jar character in its entirety.
