Perhaps I can explain. Taco Time is legendary here in the Seattle area. Oregon and Idaho too. It is excellent, for fast food, that is. examples: Clean restaurants, helpful staff; no lard nor even any oil in beans, yet they are very good; the choice of having whole wheat tortillas; they bring the food to your table (no tip expected) and maintain current standards of health food. It is the best, and we here could never compare it to Taco Bell. It was based , in Maple Valley, WA, but now in AZ.
Wow, I never knew that they were ever in Australia. I've got two where I live (about 45 minutes north of Seattle). It was started in Eugene, Oregon and the first franchise opened in Tacoma, Washington. I looked on the map and they're mostly in the Northwest U.S. No wonder most people have never heard of it, but it's really good stuff. I think it's way better than Taco Bell. And I'm eating some right now as I type this, no lie.
We used to go for a taco at Taco Time in George Street Sydney after going to the cinema. It was located near the cinemas, but only lasted for a few years before turning into a Hungry Cowboy restaurant. I used to love the crispy burritos!
@spershall Where are you located? They're all over the place in Seattle, Washington and Oregon States. But, in other places, probably not so much. They're a little pricey for fast food, but good.
What you just said, proved the theory right, that tacos don't work as mainstream fast food in Australia, as the homemade versions (i.e Old el Paso) sell like hotcakes. Just ask Taco Bell... (I wonder if they still have Taco Bells in Sydney)
Unless you lived in Maroubra, Liverpool, Manly or frequented the city, I guess it's not surprising you never saw one. I never saw one either. I moved back to Adelaide in 1985 and I think the only Taco Bell I've seen was here in the late 80's....at the latest. It's a shame though because I really love Mexican food.
I dragged mum to the grand opening at Liverpool one hot Saturday in oooh, '81? The star attraction was then-Wonderworld reporter Jonathan Coleman, who I clearly recall seeing him stuff his generous gob with one of the said tacos on offer.
Maxxply - we walked the same path - great memories of Saturday lunches there at Phoenix Plaza. I think one of my mates may have worked there at some stage.
We also have a whole bunch of them here in Utah.

I work at a Taco Time in Washington state. They don't mention the stores in Australia on the wiki page.

@Editor5899 Yes that is true. A few items are way overpriced, but I can always eat a meal there for under $4.
