Im not sure if those were trombones or mabye french horns at 0:35 but either way it was an absolutley fantastic performance by tha section. Props to the whole orchestra though. In my opinion this is the best recording of this piece on all of youtube
@Nitnelav1994 as a few people have pointed out, the French horns are playing at 0:35, but they're also doubled by strings--one of Rimsky's favorite tricks as an orchestrator.
My band and I just played this for band festival and I have to say it is probably one of the more difficult pieces I have yet to play in my music career!!!
What do you play? I play percussion and on keyboard instruments on key isn't really that much harder than another. It's just a matter of practice. I wouldn't really know on wind instruments though.
Don't allow yourself to be intimidated by the presence of "X" number of flats or sharps. It's something that must be practiced until you can do it without a second thought. It's boring, but scales must be practiced diligently. Of course, this piece still sounds like a beast to play for some instruments.
I play this in my grade 12 music class and i play the bass guitar and it is absolutly an astonishing piece... Rismky Korsakov was a brilliant man and he was a beautiful melodic composer... he actually helped the melodies for the group of russian composers he was with named the Fabulous five or somthing like that or other known as The Mighty Handful

Rismky Korsakov was a brilliant man and he was a beautiful melodic composer... he actually helped the melodies for the group of russian composers he was with named the Fabulous five or somthing like that or other known as The Mighty Handful

awesomeness, played this last year Rimsky-Korsakov is a genius, him, Saint-Saens and Bach are my favorite
