  • The signature music of the 1950s-60s current affairs programme This Week. Whatever happened to good TV and music?

  • My timpani solo ftw.

  • I concur with JTruth that those partial jumps SUCK!! I love the piece though. It's been caught in my head all week!

  • This song is great beyond belief... I was on 2nd trumpet/cornet (which had all the interval jumps after the first sounds were heard all on 0:08, 1:26 and 3:24. The 1st part had that too sometimes, I just thought is was challenging because I had to do it. lol

  • This piece rocks! one of my favorites

  • Thumbs up if you thought it was going to end at 1:00

  • thumbs up if you are watching this after watching this.

    watch?v=foQn7rsExB0

  • playing 2nd cornet on this and its only my sophomore year. its pretty crazy.

  • How did this ever get 7 dislikes? 7 People must be incredibly dumb.

  • @DTMWTMP It's more like 7 people who can't play the trumpet part xD

  • I play timpani in this...

  • Brows Held High?

  • I was whistling this down the street, and then I thought 'how arrogant.'

  • We just played this song. Although all I played was third trombone(probably the easiest part by far) it's an amazing song. Makes me wish I could play trumpet with a semblance of decency.

  • I love the trumpet parts in this.

  • I'm playing this for All-Region Band in my area!! It certainly scares me, though all I play is Tromebone!!!

  • This was the processional at our wedding. It was played by a 12 piece brass ensemble of our friends. Very hard to play. It was glorious!!

  • @45acppistolero

    Congratulations!

  • I love this! we played an arrangement in Wind Orchestra!

  • the clarinet part is insane, but I love it!

  • @PhantomhiveProducts3 it is soooo hard to play, I'm playing it in my band class right now.

  • i play the timpani in this song in my highschool's senior concert band. probably one of the most awesome songs i've played in the percussion section. (mainly because of the timpani solos :3)

  • Fantastic.

  • Thumbs up if you are playing this.

  • Go Tech High School wind ensemble playing this :) woop!

  • Yay for Pace high schools wind ensemble playing this! hey guys =] go trumpets!!!

  • @Christian4life95 ...Pace, Florida? :O

  • Ah this brings back memories of Youth Symphony and how much I disliked the 4-flats part (or the pretty smooth section). lol XD

  • The music composers of NFL Films, ripped off not only Gustav Holst, but also Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. The upside is that fans of American football, can thereby come to appreciate those two aforementioned geniuses.

  • @JeffGR4

But in reality, when you have them listen to some of those pieces, they'll be like "THEY STOLE THAT FROM [insert show/movie/broadcast here]!!!"

  • Woot, the cadets did this song part of their 2010 show

  • A wonderful composition that reminds me of the time my family sat in the same room in the evenings listening to this music and enjoying each others company before bedtime.

  • Ah, brings back good memories of Gordon Peterson on Inside Washington.

  • epic!

  • 2 30 is just a piece of the contemporary techno. Korsakov was a true Genius. I am proud to be Rusky!

  • The 4 dislikes are from Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms. They said,'' The tempo was just too fast.''

  • Oh how I miss playing this. I need to get my hands on a tuba, or a double bass. Orchestra was so much fun.

  • Some of us old farts may remember this as the theme to "Washington Week in Review", back when public affairs shows weren't shriekfests like Fox News Channel and the McLaughlin Group are these days.

  • Thumbs up if you know this song because of Oancitizen.

  • @ninjafire399

I knew this song before is show, but it was thanks to his show that I finally got around to looking it up on youtube. :P

  • Oancitizen lead me here!

  • Ensemble? Conductor?

  • @mediaresearch1;@cannoneer081 - 1 I like the irony - Russian music for an American political TV program ... !

  • @JackietheBlaze i played this in middle school (6th grade to be exact) as a clarinet. it wasn't as hard as they trumpet part but there was a lot of tonging! this song is pretty much hard for everyone!

  • Played this in our state's youth symphony orchestra when i was it 6th grade! I was playing clarinet! the trumpets were pretty good! our conductor told us that the previous time they played it, the trumpets couldn't even play the begining!

  • Thumbs up if Oancitizen sent you here.

  • This is the theme song to some sunday morning political debate show my dad used to watch. Any idea what the show was?

  • @mediaresearch1, It's called "Inside Washington".

  • @Cannoneer0811 do you remeber the theme song where a trumpeteer had a solo? i forgot the name.

  • @crazychristianguy777 apperently so is mine.....

  • ok playing this in JUNIOR HIGH band on trumpet is insane

  • 1 L0v3 th1s s0ng

  • The trumpets are so clean and perfect it sounds great

  • like if you played this on a trumpet. (im looking for an accurate count not publicity)

  • @TheUser1029384756 cornet 1st part.

  • Very inspiring music

  • I play this in class on the flute. It is challenging to play that fast.

  • MAT ROSSIYA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This was the first piece I ever played in orchestra. How that takes me back. Good day to be a bassoonist.

  • I would play this REEEEEEAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLYYYY loud tomorrow during the royal wedding.

  • I've played this for the past 2 years for graduation, and I have to play it once more till I graduate. :D Go trombone!!

  • Thank you Oancitizen for directing me towards this!

  • i had to sight read this on flute last week at a symphony that I joined late..... I FAILED. DX

  • Who the fuck dislikes this kind of art?? Probably some dumbass who listens to soulja boy

  • @TrueHeroUnderGod89 Those damn youngsters and their rock 'n roll, their penny arcades, and that detestable soldier boy.

  • This piece is so boring. play it and you will see that the same melody repeats multiple times, only going astray twice from the melody. Bland and boring.

  • @ModellMeister

Boring?!? are you kidding. This is one of R-K's greatest works. A joy to play and hear.

  • @jlaw1981pbo iit would be better if the melody was played once or twice, but same melody repeating like 4 times it gets old. i am playing this now.

  • @ModellMeister Isn't this just the same with popular music? Verse, chorus, verse, chorus... The same melodies repeat themselves from start to finish. I wonder what sort of music do you listen to?

  • @tmmvds I agree ,"popular" music is so stupid. I only listen to Baroque and early classical (Haydn, Mozart) because I cannot stand modern music. However there are a few composers from Romantic period such as Beethoven, Saint Saens and Rossini that I can tolerate

  • lol what one jerk disliked this?

  • @breble

Likely, he did it to be different.

  • @breble not very noble

  • @breble I hate this song. My ears almost bled when I heard this. I wanted to kill myself when I heard this song. Now I say boo to all the 233 people that like this video.

  • @girlpower998 so if you hate this what do you like?

  • @SirPiper6 If the recent activity is anything to go by, Katy Perry and Kanye West.

  • @girlpower998 Bitch.

  • @Ether6123 Hey thank you for saying what I was going to say.

  • Comment removed

  • @specter290 Aw, nertz to the fuckin' peasants.

  • @breble Timic83. He hates all thing TGWTG-related.

  • @JustPhilNY That guy must be one sad Schmo

  • @breble

    a commoner.

  • @breble Justin Bieber to prove he at least had a penis.

  • @breble A self-quintupling one ...

  • pure delight. You can see them marching in. What a great processional it would make for the special guests arriving at a church wedding and being escorted up the aisle ... if only one could afford the Dallas Symphony Orchestra or this terrific bunch.

  • I played trombone for this in symphony orchestra my junior year of high school in 2006. Damn, this was so much fun to play! GOOD TIMES!!

  • Dude I am so excited.. gonna play this at our school concert and I am totally beasting it right now ;D

  • I'm not one to do this, but who's the asshole that disliked it?

  • I have loved this since the Cadets Drum Corps did it for their 2010 show!

It's such an amazing piece of music.

  • @FreddeeG they sure did, i remember seeing them live at semi's and finals

  • @monkeyfan555 Lucky! I only got to see a recording. It must have been fantastic!

  • LOL smoke in Korsakov's left hand

  • now I'm really pissed off. my orchestra is butchering something that should sound like this!

  • @ZhengStudios When's your performance?

  • @wierdo1232123 hahaha it was a few days ago...turns out it wasn't that bad but i didn't like the trumpets.

  • WHY IS THIS SONG SO AWESOME?? <3 <3

  • Great tune, but I'll always know it as the theme from "Inside Washington."

Fellow Washingtonians will know exactly what I'm talking about. :-)

  • @crazychristianguy777 oh i wish you a lot of luck with it! i hope it goes well!

please i would love to hear your band playing it. if possible would you please record it and post it? i would love to hear it

  • this was written for professional musicians and is still hard at that level, and my high school band is playing it :D

  • @Jundrami so with the information you've given us, using our deductive reasoning we can assume that your high school band is playing it poorly

  • @puffy2013 lol, no we only started playing it a week ago, and we can play it decently already, our sightread of it was better than we expected, we actualy play it very well :D

unfortunatly the woodwinds have to play the string parts seeing as we arent a symphony orcestra. but out high school band is actualy one of the best around.

  • @Jundrami jesus i'm glad you're not one of those guys with a cock in his butthole that gets mad at what ppl say on youtube. but yeah that's tight our band is playing la fiesta mexicana which is also pretty intense you should look it up (if you do watch the one with red letters, movements one and three)

  • @Jundrami oh man your the shit!! ... dude lots of bands play it stupidass!!!

  • @cartmanluc well that means a lot of bands out there are talented :D

if your so great yourself why dont you play it with a high school band?

  • @Jundrami our school did dumbass..........

  • @cartmanluc thats good to hear, im sure your band is very talented.

now where does this unnesesary hatred come from?

  • @crazychristianguy777 more like exremely FUN

  • Cortege - quite a send-off !

  • 0:32

    1:49

    3:34

My favorite parts of this song

  • This version doesn't have the beast-end that our arrangement does though.

  • UGH We have to play this in band this semester and it's like WTF at the end.

  • @LynneaOnline Have to? Lucky...

  • poor trumpets....

  • Remember playing this in high school concert band years ago--love this version!!

  • this song makes me want to destroy my cello, curl up in a corner, and wish i were a trumpet/brass player. AMAZING!

  • @mynameissssjane Coming from a brass player, I must say I enjoyed playing the cello more back when I did :P

  • wow this piece takes me back

  • This is the nightly echo of my loss youth.

  • I play trumpet in my band. and im in junior high school. But when i play this sometimes i find it hard to play the 16th notes but i keep practicing. and practice makes perfect so i have confidence that i will achieve.

  • Playing this song in band, It has an epic horn part!!!

  • We get to play this in my high school's Symphony Orchestra!!! And I play trumpet!

  • @CyrahBloomify I know this song is amazing, i can't get it out of my head, i always wanna hear it again

  • @CyrahBloomify same with me but we only have one month to get this all down... WOOT!!

  • @CyrahBloomify Yeah I played this with my symphony orchestra junior year of high school...I was second part trombone. So much fun

  • @CyrahBloomify Oh yeah... I play this for middle school and i play the piccolo!!! haahha

  • @CyrahBloomify Oh my! Your High school has a symphony orchestra??!!! I'm studying composition and we don't even have a chamber ensemble.

  • @samsun216 We also play this in our orchestra, it's just a brassband, so boring. I wish it was an symphony orchestra too!

  • The trumpets are just amazing, and an overall incredible song.

  • Glorious! This is the one they shall play when they lay me in my drakkar and send it ablaze into the gathering darkness of the North Sea.

  • we're playing this... its great

  • In the Symphonic Band arrangement, the first cornet parts have their fanfare, along with pretty much all the string melodies... Pretty fun stuff.

  • i played this in a concert! lots of fun!

  • This jam makes me want to get down!

  • Isn't his full name Nikoali Rimsky Korsakov?

  • Playing this in middle school ;D

  • My favorite tune by far

  • I played this when I was in high school. We rated superior.

  • I have ordered this to be played whenever I enter the room! So far, no compliance.

  • Rimsky - Korsakov is my favorite classical music composer.

  • Name the Drum Corps that played this piece first and what year....a real test fr true old schoolers out there

  • @oldschooldrumcorps Santa Clara Vanguard 1972, repeated in 1980 and recently by the Cadets of Allentown PA 2010

  • @akac07

A winner! no more contestants, Please!!!!

  • @oldschooldrumcorps Santa Clara Vanguard 1972 repeated in 1980. Most recently by the Cadet of Allentown PA 2010

  • this song is so much fun to play! ♥

  • Who played this? Orchestra, conductor, trumpet soloist?

  • :( sometimes I wish I didn't quit horn D:

  • Magnificent!

  • well i play clarinet && this is my 5th year playing && my high school band played this at festival && we received all ones. i think in general it's a difficult piece, but if you practice it enough then all should go well. it wears out your chops pretty badly though. (= but good luck to whomever tries to play.

  • Im not sure if those were trombones or mabye french horns at 0:35 but either way it was an absolutley fantastic performance by tha section. Props to the whole orchestra though. In my opinion this is the best recording of this piece on all of youtube

  • Yeah, those were horns. You must hear some pretty bizarre sounding trombones if you thought that's what they were.

  • @Nitnelav1994 Horns!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @Nitnelav1994 as a few people have pointed out, the French horns are playing at 0:35, but they're also doubled by strings--one of Rimsky's favorite tricks as an orchestrator.

  • I'm gonna play this for our concert. I play the flute

  • our orchestra is going to play this.

  • i played this when i was in grade eight intermediate band

  • i played this on graduation from college and all the profs would march in while this played

  • just as good the 5th time heard!!!

  • and the tenth

  • Oh really?

    Go to 3:58

That has to be one of the most dramatic endings I've ever heard

  • yes

    for a march

remember its a march, it wasnt meant to be a song played willie nillie

it is played in the second act of the play mlada when the nobles are entering castle (i think)

  • @wierdo1232123

i think pines has it beat

  • @Priest0819 Your personal opinion means nothing in terms of the merit of a piece. I mean, yeah, Pines is THE shit. But your statement has no merit.

  • I love this piece...it is truly outstanding!!!

My band and I just played this for band festival and I have to say it is probably one of the more difficult pieces I have yet to play in my music career!!!

    Rimsky-Korsakov made an unforgettable piece!!!

  • i agree (for the song has 4 flats)

the viola part is too easy (save for maybe 10 measures in total)

  • Yes it is truly an hard piece to play, 4 flats gezz that's a lot but the most there ever was!!

  • What do you play? I play percussion and on keyboard instruments on key isn't really that much harder than another. It's just a matter of practice. I wouldn't really know on wind instruments though.

  • I play the alto saxophone, I'm sure its difficult to play on every instrument! Very true practice does make perfection!

  • Don't allow yourself to be intimidated by the presence of "X" number of flats or sharps. It's something that must be practiced until you can do it without a second thought. It's boring, but scales must be practiced diligently. Of course, this piece still sounds like a beast to play for some instruments.

  • Very true, scales are boring but they do help in the long run of things! Its just a beastly song...lol!

  • I play this in my grade 12 music class and i play the bass guitar and it is absolutly an astonishing piece... Rismky Korsakov was a brilliant man and he was a beautiful melodic composer... he actually helped the melodies for the group of russian composers he was with named the Fabulous five or somthing like that or other known as The Mighty Handful

  • awesomeness, played this last year Rimsky-Korsakov is a genius, him, Saint-Saens and Bach are my favorite
