@1uhot4 yep, i did did that to my arowana when it was little and now after a year its a footlong and randomly jumps and literaly hops out of the tank. I have to tape it closed so it does not come out.
@ThePeanuttBrittle silver arowanas cannot grow to be 8ft you are thinking of the aropima which is related to the arowana but a completely different type. the largest silver arowana ever found in the wild was around 5 ft long. just food for thought.:)
They are awesome fish, but they're just way too big for all, but the largest of private aquariums. Look at what public aquariums keep them in. Granted, they live with other monster fish, but even for just one adult, I'd recommend 500 gallons minimum. They may be slender, but they are very long and need plenty of room to turn around, swim and jump freely without hitting the sides and without injuring themselves.
Ah...wrong. Black arowanas reach up to 4feet. Silver arowanas up to 6 feet. Both can reach their full potential adult size in captivity. Neglect would be the only reason for these fish to become dwarfed in captivity.
where do you get your information because obviously if you check the internet it only max at 48''(4') in wild and reaches 2-3' in captivity. Silvers can jump 6 feet out of the water though if that what your confusing size with.
My information comes from 30+ years worth of study, research and hands on experience with fish and aquatic & semi-aquatic ecosystems. These fish rarely make it over 4' in captivity due to inadequate care & part of that is from being in too small of a tank. They are monster fish that require monster tanks if they are going to live their full potential life span and grow to full adult size in captivity.
no, dinhy34 is correct. i have had a silver arowana in a 300 gallon for 5and a half years and it only grew 32 inches. also i had 3 jardinis and those only grew 26 and 29 inches. so ya
Pretty amazing jump, but seriously.. This video could well have been 10sec long..

dizzyman195 2 years ago 11
@dizzyman195 it might be becouse arawanas like to jump, so he prob doent wanna pick a fish off the floor lol
flyleafrules93 2 years ago
@dizzyman195 Arowanas usually jump out of the water to catch food, or they can get dropeye. He probably just doesn't want it to jump out of the tank.
WolfJuiceProductions 1 year ago
@dizzyman195 It is because so the arowana has a less chance of jumping out of the tank. Most death of arowana is when they jump out of their tank.
ThePeanuttBrittle 1 year ago
@dizzyman195 i think it cause the arowana is still a baby

Silvers reach only 2-3' in tanks but 4' in the wild so its no biggie.
