In Halo 2, when you see Guilty Spark, you are on the Heretic's base, which is a space station in orbit of the gas-giant Threshold, the planet that the original Halo Ring (Installation 04) orbited. So the Heretics most likely found him floating in space or he found the Heretics.

P.S. There is a minor mistake: In the book there is only one Coventnant supercarrier (in the game there are around 20). :D

well the books never really went into what happened at Reach, except for the Fall of Reach. i dont know if they have done this in any of the other books because i have only read first strike, ghosts of onyx, fall of reach, and the flood

The game took place over a month. 2 Cortana was already with the MC in space (that 'fragment' explanation from the Halsey journal was BS), there was no reason for Noble to bring her to the PoA. 3 The PoA was in space the entire time, waiting to pick up MC (PoA was a Halcyon-class cruiser, and not capable of in-atmosphere flight anyway). 4 With the exception of Jorge, Noble team were S-III's, which Dr. Halsey didn't know about yet.

I too had hoped Halo: Reach would follow the book, which it of course did not. I love the book series, even if Onyx is a bit far out there for my taste. It's tough to project the mental images the author tries to create but I think it's a fun challenge anyway, which makes it better. Haven't read anything beyond that point excluding the short stories which were pretty neat. Hated the game, I play them for single player and it doesn't hold up. Only one I haven't finished to this date.

I think they should have just made it to where Reach fell in, at most, 3 days. Although, if you think about it, Reach falling in a day doesn't make sense. It is the military hub of the UNSC, the month long battle period could have happened in the books if Nylund realized that.

The book just dosent tell you that at some point during the battle at gamma station the autumn returned to reach for repairs and to pick up a the fragment of cortana noble six was ordered to deliver to keys.
