Its a lot simpler than what this woman is saying these rappers do not READ anything which is likely why they were rappers in the first place for the most part, so if they do not read books how good will they be are reading a CONTRACT and ensuring they do not get ripped off? There are quite a few artist that have been independent for years and make bank. They may not be as well known and on MTV or BET top 10, but they have their fan base and they sell out shows. And with the internet and social networking sites its much easier to put your work and yourself out there for the world to see. I remember Ice Cube said in an interview that he would tell a new artist that you don't need a record deal, "you" are the record deal.
