  • if i had a dollar for ever pixel in this video i'd have $56000 dollars

  • @Beaster456

If I had a dollar for every view this video has, I'd have $34,956.

  • But yeah that's one hell of a knife! Would love to see some Chinese piece of crap knife attempt to do the same job!

  • @SoCalTactical

It would bounce off or break.

  • My potato has a camera function too.

  • @SoCalTactical

    Cool, don't eat it then.

  • @SoCalTactical That is a talented potato.

  • i dont think a calculator is a good camera

  • @Fraizier1

Me neither, that's why I used a camera.

  • @Conan568 lol i love your one timer remarks on fucktards like that dude that commented about the calcucamera... .... make a calculator into a camera and i give you a millionare... and hopefully a rash of stupid kids that see a comment get a few thumbs up and think they are cool for copy/ paste'n on every video with sub par video/audio quality..... that go away

  • @gredesandman my phone has a calculator and also a camera.

  • nice dog:)

  • @Navlek79

Thanks, we all think Rocky's pretty cool too.

I'll give him a treat for you.

  • He looks like MACGRUBER!!!

  • @atomix2201

    Lol.

  • Crikey! That's not just sharp; that's a bloody great giant razor blade! How much severe service like that before it would be back to the stone for that particular knife? Would you please put on you "things to do" list, a video on how to sharpen good knives? There are some on YouTube already but I'd trust your judgment better.

  • @peteacher52

I just use an medium then fine Arkansas stone to sharpen these knives.

Good idea about a sharpening video.

  • That puppy wasn't very happy that you shortened the rope.

  • @dlmarti

I moved it for him, he still hangs off it to this day.

  • Wasnt very clear....could have been any old rope for all we know

  • Crappy camera.

I've got a good one now.

  • That's a good knife to cut through a rope that thick sir. Admire your work. I'd love to get hold of your work but unfortunately where I live, I think they might blunt it down... which would be an insult to you and heartache for me.

    Kudos. Great stuff

  • that was intense

  • Thanks, it's really thick 1.5" braided tug boat tow rope.

It's a lot harder to cut than hemp.

  • Good thing I know that breed dog has a nub tail or someone might think you used him on one of your knife tests??? LOL Great demonstration, excellent knife edge and fantastic dog :) Thanks

  • The person that docked Rocky's tail before I had him, screwed up.

It had to be re cut and stitched.

  • Well that sucks, my father who is 81 raised Rat Terriers most his life your boy looks Rat Terrier and a good looking dog. You are correct in calling im "the boss", again great work on that edge good job

  • holy shit, was that your dog hanging? lmfao

  • Rocky was off camera waiting for his cue, the rope cut, to make his cameo appearance.

He used to swing from that rope, so after this cut, I tied the cut-off end to a tether-ball rope for Rocky to swing from.

    Gotta keep "The Boss" happy.

  • ur dog is awesome

  • Thanks, but he's a lot more than awesome.

He only looks like a dog.

    He's actually a magical Jeep.

  • That's pretty damn impressive!

  • Thanks, that rope is a lot tougher to cut then the hemp stuff they use.

  • Thanks for the reply; I read that you got your wood for free, but it must be very nice to get your steel free!

  • I collected my wood when I drove log truck.

I took only the nicest stuff, and I have more that I could use in several lifetimes.

The steel I'm using for these big camp knives is from log-truck springs.

    They're made from 1095 instead of 5160 like a pick-up spring is.

  • Hey conan; I saw that you said people have offered you $700 for that knife (I can see why). I was wondering how much it cost you to make it; and how much time/effort was put into it? Its a bloody good knife obviously.

  • I got the wood for free as with the steel, so the only cost would be fuel, a few grinding belts, and a bit of electricity.

It's the finishing that takes time, getting the scratches out, oiling etc.

It probably cost less than $25 to make that knife.

It's the time that ads up, and I really don't keep track of that.

  • Yup! That'll do:)

  • It sure did ; )

  • Impressed and subscribed;)

  • Thanks.

  • Creepy, woow!))

  • Rocky got in on the act.

  • Impressive cut.

  • It surprised me how easily it cut through that rope.

I swung harder than I needed to, but I'd never tried a free hanging cut on this hard, dense, tough rope before, and I wanted to make a successful cut.

  • I would have had to swing that hard to do it with one of my machetes, and I keep them paper cutting sharp, sometimes shaving sharp. You know what you are doing, both forging and technique.

  • I guess when you've been playing with these things for as long as I have, you're bound to pick up a few tricks :)

  • thats amazing

  • Yeah this thing really cuts like crazy.

    They all do.

  • looks like your dog was trying to grab the new end of the rope!

  • He was, he used to swing from that rope.

I tied the end to my Son's old tether-ball pole so he can still do his Tarzan act.

  • your dog flew lolz.. nice magic trick there

  • You're the third person who's caught that.

    Good eye.

  • sweet lolz i thought it was funny... also knifes look like exsinsive one you would buy

  • That knife is my one of a kind "War-blade."

The blade is 11" long and I take that knife almost everywhere I go.

I wouldn't sell it for $700, and I have had people ask.

  • no didnt say sell it said it was exspinsive if you bought it at hunting shop or something

  • I Didn't see the rope the first time watching,I Thought You threw the knife and the dog jumped.

    I See it now =P

  • It went through that rope really easily, I was kind of surprised.

I felt kind of bad after though.

The poor little Dog used to swing from that rope like an ape.

I tied the cut off rope to a tether-ball pole, so Rocky can still swing on it.

  • best magic trick ever!

  • Not many people catch that, you're the second one that has.

The cut off piece of rope turns into a dog that tries to reattach itself to the rope.

    Good eye.

  • Cool! Took me a couple of refreshes to see the rope as well. For a second there I thought your dog pissed you off. LOL

Thannks for the fast replies to my private messages to you. I'll keep you posted on my success...if any! LOL

    Respect!

  • I tried cutting through 5 lengths of 1" thick free hanging nylon rope tied together, with this knife and there was only 1little strand left holding the rope.

The whole thing was almost 4" thick.

That's a Hell of a cut, but the rope was full of sand and grit and it dulled the edge.

This knife will do anything I ask of it and then some.

  • i think it's fair to call that attempt a success

  • oh dang. the rope being cut actually had its own sound effect. lol

  • amazing cut wat kind of iron is that ?

  • It's 5160 medium carbon steel.

It started out life as an old leaf spring from a pickup truck.

I needed a super heavy duty chopper for the 5 heavily treed acres I own, so I forged this knife.

It was the first one I made in 2008, but not the last.

I've done a hunter and am working on a really nice Damascus Bowie.

I post a slideshow here when it's done.

  • i didnt even see the rope, i thought you threw the knife at the camera for a second

  • You mean the rope that looks like it turned into my dog?

I have tried throwing that knife, and with the heavy blade it throws very nicely, US Ranger 1/2 spin throwing style.

I also cut down a dry dead 6" thick hardwood tree and chopped a 6" thick fir log in half with that knife.

It could still shave hair after.

I use that knife when I'm working my land instead of a hatchet.

  • looks like your dog liked it to

  • Actually he likes to swing from ropes.

I tied the piece I cut off to another rope on a pole for him.

  • nice cut!

  • HOT knives through butter!!!

  • Yeah it sliced through that rope a lot easier than I expected.
