I have the kw-avx830 model and I purchased the Seagate 500gb FreeAgent Go drive and I couldn't get my headunit to acknowledge my hard drive. My hard drive was in the NTFS file system format. I had to reformat it into Fat32 with a program called fat32format (a DOS command program) in order to get it to work. If your 800 model is similar to my 830 model, you will have to reformat your drive into Fat32 to get it to work. Continued below>>>>>

Once you get the program, go into the Windows DOS command prompt and go to the directory with the fat32format file in it. The command for fat32format is fat32format -c128 f:

replace f: with your driver letter.

Once your drive is reformated to fat32, copy some mp3's to the drive and plug it into your headunit. You should then be able to read from the drive with no problem. Back up anything you have on the drive somewhere else BEFORE reformatting!!!!! Good luck!

I tried convert to many type of movie, but only Mpeg1 can play on the AVX820, and it required a KW-NX7000BT to unlock video what you can buy on ebay.

I just bought an AVX820 and no problem with MP3, Wav on the USB, but Movie file plays sound only. I have converted to *.mpg (Mpeg1 as JVC guided).

Anybody have same problem and how to solve it?

i also acquired the avx820. i'm having a hard time figuring what types of videos the HU can play. tried Divx, AVI but they are not working. m using a 160GB HDD on FAT32. also tried converting to mpeg but they contain errors while playing. have you figured out how to go about this? tnx

yes i have. the avx820 will only read external hard drives formatted as FAT32 and play only MPEG1 videos

well actually the best file system you should use is Fat32LBA... working with 320gb WD My Passport HD here on a JVC AVX 820 so all you ned is to do the correct file system for your HD , checking the amper that is compitable with your JVC multimedia system (writen at the manual at page 55 i think) and your done. (the western digital model i wrote above is working great here and i'm enjoying evey damn day :) have a great one :)

How long does it take to read the hard drive when you select USB source & how much data is on your hard disk ? I have tried 20Gb & 80Gb hard disks with 7Gb of music - it takes 25 seconds to read the drive when you select the USB source !

The 20Gb hard drive spins at 4200rpm with a 2Mb cache. The 80Gb hard drive spins at 5400rpm with an 8Mb cache. Do you have the make and model of the hard drive ? My JVC is the newer AVX-810.

Probably you are using a HD that has been formated with NTFS, the AVX800/810 only reads FAT32.

yes it is formated with NTFS but i cant format it in FAT32, my only options are NTFS or exFAT.... or is exFAT same as FAT32

Hello again Crank. The standard MS Windows format software (diskmgmt.msc) doesn't show the option to format a hard disk larger then 32 Gb with FAT32. You have to find an external program to do that (they have been made popular cause Mac can't manage NTFS partitions also). Before looking for a program, try this command:

Start -> Run -> cmd (to open the command window) -> format (Drive letter): /FS:FAT32

Im using a 16 Gb pendrive in my AVX810, formated as Fat32, there is no reason yours wouldnt work. What is the size of your HD? I need to buy one too.

I think there will be no problem with more than 160Gb. The problem is the file number! If you put only 20 Gb of Mp3's it won't work 'cause the number of the files is too big (5000+). It shows an error message.

If you put 120 Gb of divx movies there's no problem because are only 200 files or so...

no problems with divx. When I put a mixed short video directory some of them don't play (not support error message). But are only a few, maybe they use a strange codec.

My doubt is present because the jvc's web page indicate than the USB port support devices up to 10GB. In the past I have used phones with superior memory cards to the ones that the manufacturer indicates that the device support, but I had problems in some cases, when reproducing a file (audio or video) over the indicated capacity, although the device recognized the full capacity and were showing files, you could not reproduce them and only obtained an error. Your answer is very appreciated.

I assure you it's a 160 Gb! The problem with this JVC is only how many files are in: if you put 100 Gb of movies they are about 150 files and the JVC works well. If you put only 40 Gb of mp3 you receive an error message maybe because there are too many files!

My first idea was putting all my mp3 on HD but i cannot. so i use DVDs for mp3 and HD for movies and videos.

Sulla Alfa 147 togli lo stereo originale, monti la mascherina della phonocar (25 euro su ebay) e ci metti dentro qualsiasi autoradio doppio DIN. E' una misura standard che corrisponde a 2 autoradio sovrapposte. Sulla polo 9n addirittura la monti senza adattatori al posto della radio originale.
