No matter what she was amazing. And I wished I had met her... I just hope she is happy wherever she is right now and that she knows that her fans love her... I'm 25 and I adore her there is no one better than her and I know there will never be anyone like her everrrr.... Do you have any more interviews of her with Jack Parr?
i just read some of these post, i have been a big Garland fan since i was a child, NO Judy was NOT jealous of Liza, she was NOT riping the mic out of Liza's hand, she was coaching her daughter how to hold a mic so she would be heard, since we all know Judy Garland is was and is the best and outstanding entertainer who ever lived. about her drug problem,
Following Judy Garland on stage was almost impossible because no one brought such an excitement to an audience like Judy. When Judy wasn't in the best shape vocally, she's still better than any singer at their peak.Judy knew how to capture an audience. During this same time in 1964 she was only 2 be seen @ the night of 100 stars in london. She stood up, waved, the fans went nuts.It was pandemonium & her fans went nuts that even the Beattles knew they couldnt follow Judy she closed the show.
On Google it said that after this show aired, The press nasty to Paar & Garland because of the Marlena story. It's cold & lonely @ the top. Sadly Judy never knew who her true friends were. When she was breaking house records Everyone was around atthe end no one was there for her. Liza wasnt talking to her and Lorna who claims that she loved her more than anyone was gone too. Judy needed rest but had to work to pay off bills after the men in her life ripped her off. RIPJudy!
What Now My Love was a bad choice of song when she is obviously having vocal problems - it sounds to me like she has laryngitis She sang better than this in later performances so its not as if this was typical for her at this stage in her life
They should have aknowledged during the chat that she wanted to sing in spite of her voice and chosen a less demanding song to finish on The final note is a disaster Even the Garland charisma doesnt mask it
I love when she talks about Marlena would talk about some of the songs she sang from her movies and that she even through in some of Judy's... Judy was very funny! More people should see this side of her. They won't be quick to keep using the word "tragic" when she is mentioned.
She made me laugh out loud when she started the song while waiting for someone to take the microphone stand away...Trying to give Jack a hin tto take the pole.. LMAO
Well, the great Judy Garland was not at her best her vocally but you have to admit she was hilarious and she looked fabulous. If only she had never seen a need for either drugs or alcohol. Still she was a monumental talent. for the ages and has never been equaled.
@danielwroy But isnt the big thing is that starting as an adolescent her mother made her take pills ... the MGM then ..... one can only become an addict...... right?
@Marktheho She was on uppers when she was in Vaudeville w/her mother & sisters her mother got her started then when she got to MGM she was still "chunky" & they put her on more and she slimmed down but they got her used to taking those pills. Judy had an addictive personality & unfortunately she got hooked. She gave us many hrs of joy & growing up people looked @ her as a meal ticket. She used those pills as a way to self medicate and in away escape and tohelp her work as hard as she did
@VivaRenata I think Dietrich sort of invites mockery, makes herself a target, and you can see a wicked imitation Carol Channing does of Marlene right here on youtube. You can also see people imitating Carol. And of course lots and lots of folks- usually men- doing impressions of Judy. I think it's harmless fun. But you are right, Judy's renditions of these 2 difficult songs- each with a big high note at the end- are sad. But you can hear her do them beautifully on youtube in later years.
@defundthewar I read a story that after Liza performed w/Judy @ the Palladium,Judy seen Liza is becoming a major force & it sparked some kind of jealousy for Judy to say "You'll never share the stage with me again" I'm Not sure how true it is, but 41+yrs after her death, Judy's talent is such that both girls to this day hear the name Judy Garland in every interview. L & L cant capture an audiencethe way Judy did. L&L voices are strong, but both lack the undefinable essence that Judy possessed.
All was lovey-dovey at rehearsal, but when Judy realized Liza was good in the real concert, she decided to matters into her own hands, literally. She kept yanking Liza's mike cord, shoving the mike closer into Liza's face. I've seen it. (It may or may not still be up on youtube). Later, Liza said she thought, "You didn't do that in rehearsal, Mama!" Outraged, Liza swore she'd never perform with Judy again, and she didn't. I see u r still spreading the myth of everyone ripping off Judy.
@defundthewar I am not spreading the Myth I know Judy was a real person with flaws. I read Judy as she got older that she may have been jealous and that it wa Judy who said they's never perform again. I never try to sugar coat Judy Garland I try to defend these newbies that feelthat everytime they watch anything about Judy, they always hear the constant drug abuse and fail to realize that the documentary is made possible because of the tremendous accomplishments & talent, Judy had.
@NFitalianGuy It is highly unlikely you read it was Judy who said it, because it was Liza. But the myth I was referring to- if you actually read what I wrote- is that Judy was repeatedly ripped off. You keep spreading this b.s. plus the nonsense of little old Mrs. Gumm of Grand Rapids somehow scoring amphetamines and feeding them to Baby Gumm. I know I am wasting my time... these fantasies are more interesting than reality, and you will keep posting such drivel, and some will believe it.
@NFitalianGuy Judy's mother gave her pep pills when she was a teen to keep her thin and give her energy, and when MGM started giving Judy Speed, Judy's mom never told them Judy was on pep pills. and Liza never said her mother was Jealous she said back stage in the wings Judy be cheering , yeah go baby, but on stage she was Judy Garland and gave her a run for her money
Judy about Marlene -- meow.

from 6:17 until the end of song.....even without being in fine vocal form, Garland was the supreme song stylist...true artistry

Look at Judy's face at 2:08 when he says "what are you going to sing now?" she's obviously thinking Oh Christ this is going to be terrible
she even says to him "I think you should sing after that last note I hit" and immediately becomes nervous

This is hysterical, regardless of the fact she may be a bit 'under the weather', you can easily see what a fantastic story teller she was.

@sbhathena This is sad, and pathetic. Let's try to remember Judy Garland as she was at her best. And how she discredits Marlene Dietrich! No excuse.
