  • What are you using to cut? Are those just plain steel snips?

  • @snareplayr23 yes.

  • i've tried to repair old cymbals.. welding doesnt work... kills tone. drilling the end of a crack lasts a while. draw a good line, tin snips, a file, good heavy wet/dry sandpaper helps a lot. i've only taken wide lip chinas and big crashes down, so i dont know much about sound. i broke an 18 A zildjian rock crash to 16.5 to 12" rock crash, and now it's very bell like, or heavy crashy spash sounding. works good between chinas in slow metal shit. hope that helped.

  • @roatking its good to hear from others using the same techniques :)

  • @Sc0ttPrian gotta learn to do, with the budget we're (at least i'm) on!

  • did useing those metal cutter sissors cut it good or did it crack or fracture the cymbal any more?

  • @jayisamazazing they worked perfectly. years later, the cymbal is fine.

  • @jayisamazazing if you're just shaving the radius all around, 1/2" or so, it's fine. but if you wanna take a chunk out of a b20 cymbal, take your time, and snip off as much as you cut into it... if you take 1" from the radius, cut 1" into the circumfrence of it, then cut it, and repeat. takes time, but it beats shelling out 200 bucks for a new cymbal. don't rush it, i have, and it can make new cracks. and smooth it out, don't wanna do a catch and slice yourself. :)

  • DUDE!!! IF IT HAS A SCRATCH JUST CUT A ''U'' SHAPE AROUND THE BROKEN PLACE NOTTHE CYMBAL AROUND IT KINDA MESSES UP THE SOUUND TO CUT IT IN A FULL CYRCLE YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT SOME PLACE WHERE THEY CUT THEM IN A HIGH POWER SPEED WITH WATER (SORRY ABOUT CAP'S MY BUTTON IS STUCK) BUT NICE VIDEO ANYWAY'S

  • @Huargos1 i have done key holes, u's v's and nothing has worked better than cutting evenly the whole way around. this cymbal has not cracked since i cut it, while the other one which i had use other techniques... well.. it is no longer mountable. :)

  • @Sc0ttPrian hmmm made me wonder i think ur righti have a cracked cymbal just now i guess try ur technique for the sake of it lol thx 4 replying XD

  • lol duuuude i did this too!!!! i made a 16 b8 into a 14" b8 now its amillion times better, but i used my schools plasma cutter, not scissors. lol, also try hammering it with a teardrop dolly and a rubber hammer. i did that also and it makes it much better

  • that would suck to crack a sabian vault

  • What size is Cymbal A?

  • 16 inches

  • damn vault are kick asses:s great voice and sound

  • I'll buy that cymbal if you still have it.

  • ehh i still use it actually, i dont really have cash to replace it haha

  • lol k

  • @a1gold174 still interested in buying? haha

  • ever heard of cymbal repair?

  • nahh

  • couldn't you have picked a cymbal that wasn't a sabin vault?

    haha

    like a sabian b8 or something..ha

  • UHMMMMMMMMMMM

Lol you better be joking haha

  • yeah...where did you come up with that idea?

  • haha well cracked cymbals are useless to me, they have a messed up sound and they always get worse, so i figure if i just cut the whole thing smaller there should be no stress points

  • china cymbals already sound like shit,so do you think that if i did that to my 12" china it would do anything?

  • hmm 12 inches isnt that big...

    it depends on the material.

    i had a 16" china a while back i had cracked,

i cut it downand it made a Real nice splash,

but it had a crack near the bell so it didnt ring properly.

currently i have a china i cut down and it just sounds like a trash can lid so its hard to say which chinas will sound good cut down

if its cracked id say go for it! at least itl stop the crack.

  • that poor vault crash. :'[

  • super duper gay...:)

  • LOL

  • what about the long slinky of a dangeling peiceÉlol! U just chucked on the floor and left it offÉlol!

  • that slinky would stab you in the eye when your playing.lol

  • Lol i know ishoulda kept it. it went up it wouldnt stay under the cymbal cause of the way i cut it aparently...
