The ideal i got was discussing religion in general with Jesus left to defend hisself with very little defence of him. The thought was there is "no Jesus defence" ! now Elaine Pagels was the defence of Jesus but with no help and by her self ! It was Elaine Pagels against the others !
Superb conversation that is ultimately flawed by the omission of the anthropological discoveries of Rene Girard. Girard has shown by the most ancient artifacts the common roots of the one and the many, I-Thou, individual - community, violence-salvation, that are found in all religions and the mythologies that formed them. In a Girardian sense, the panel, dances around this originalism. Beate Pongratz-Leisten is closest to Girard without quite hitting the salient points.
So these people just have discussions about untestable theories and illogical and unsolvable problems. Has science reached a new low? Remember the good ol' days when Albert Einstein developed his theories with a strong sense of determination and APPLIED IT? Remember when you really used the scientific method? Remeber the days when revolutionary ideas became the scientific explanations for many things? WE have tons of technology to solve many things, yet no cure for cancer? Tisk Tisk Tisk...
How the Christianity became so popular? Read Jean Soler's book The monotheist violence. In brief, the emperor Constantin imposed it as state religion as it fitted to his political purposes: master, total obedience, one chance in life to determine what will happen to everybody for ever, perfect fear, etc. Stop trying to explain it as if it had to 'emerge' as a spiritual necessity of the population, etc. As always, big things are determined by strong personalities that have the power to do so.
and the Protestant Religions that also "Radiated" such as Mormonism etc were also all set up by the Catholic Church to dilute, corrupt and destroy the Protestant movement - do any of these fuckwits study or read ANYTHING????? and they sit there patting themselves on the back blissful in their ignorance
Jennifer Hecht suggests atheists share meals, cake, song, meditate, study text, use ritual, love the ones who speak the truth, turn to friendship, art and poetry. We are social beings and these simple, obvious, down to earth suggustions sum up for me the way atheism would grow. There are many fine points, made by the other speaker, in this discussion but Jennifer Hecht brings it home, back to Earth.Evolution of Atheists. Thanks
Greco-Buddhism, sometimes spelt Graeco-Buddhism, refers to the cultural syncretism between Hellenistic culture and Buddhism, which developed between the 4th century BCE and the 5th century CE
None of the these europeans have any idea who the creator is, they will argue that the soul and god itself does not exist.

@quantafunk If you know what created the universe, please tell.

Very good and incredibly informative. Beate Pongratz-Leisten with her concept of the divine as opposed to god(s) is a compelling idea indeed.
