Great video - could you credit the musicians please? Also, since people are asking for more bass, you can boost the bass pretty easily using a parametric EQ.
Hi John! Thanks for your time searching and doing this video and book. It looks as if you have learned the stuff well, also the history of Son and Changüí which many books i´ve read got it all wrong, as they don't do any research, just write the book to make the quick money, even if what they write is garbage. good luck with your projects. keep it up!!!
It really can't be done without a bunch of work on the nut and bridge. I don't know why you would do that anyway. The whole feel of the tres is because of the way it is constructed. It makes more sense to think of it as a single note, percussion instrument instead of a "guitar like" rhythm instrument.
Many people do convert guitars into a tres, but I have never heard of anyone doing the opposite.
I am not talking about rumba clave, but clave in afro-cuban music, which rumba is not, did exist to some degree before them. Rumba is completely Cuban and actually fairly recent.
That is another discussion, but Afro-Cuban music is differentiated from Cuban music by, among other things, which register the improvisation occurs. In Afro-Cuban music the improvisation occurs on the lower register of the drums, in Cuban music it switched to the higher register (i.e. quinto) in the European tradition.

Can I ask if thats a 3-2 clave or a 3-2 clave (or am I completely mistaken?)
meghantyner 3 years ago
Changui has no clave, it wasn't "invented" until the late 1800's with the advent of son.
I hope that helps.
tresero2862 3 years ago
but the rumba clave and the 6/8 clave have existed long before the 1800s

miamipacheco 4 years ago
There is no martillo in changui. He is playing the correct pattern.
tresero2862 4 years ago
Apachy here!
abuelocongero 4 years ago
Quien le dije esta. No hay cajon en Changui ni maracas. Tres, bongo y guayo. Los bongoes son el instrumento mas Cubano. Se usan el cajon en la rumba.

Gracias,
