I've driven that corner a zillion times (Infineon, last corner national layout), and it is a lot tougher than it looks to get it right. This is a good corner for sure, nice job. I never got it right! :-)
I think he locked his rear right tyre which pointed him in that direction, it explains the slight correction. Must say it took me a couple of time watching it to realise. Nice Video
Nice!! People here miss the point, what if he miss the apex or was not the fastest of the day and bla bla bla, He was able to balance his kart is such a way that there is almost no steering angle used, in my book that is a job well done. Now that the balance is there we can start looking for faster lap times. A lot of bench racing here and I almost sure 80% will be slower that this guy. Perfect corner.
That was pretty good! What type of kart do you drive? engine/chassis It seems like in the slow-mo the kart is a little unsettled in the middle of the corner.
@SRobinson59 If I recall correctly the chassis was a TrackMagic. The engine a Rotax. It was a 30mm chassis I think, basically in full stiff configuration.
Dude you are asking for cynical comments just by posting this. I'm sure you are very proud of the way you drove, but to call it the perfect corner and explain it why it was so good is anything but modest. Also, if you haven't won any national championships, or at least races, you probably don't have the credentials for people to take you seriously.
Please explain how all 4 tires are tires have maximum grip with the inside rear of the ground.
@rsoxboy I would like to point out that most of the best coaches in sports don't have amazing credentials. I'm not saying I'm a good coach, I don't do any coaching. I just have a huge ego. So shoot me.
The inside rear wouldn't be off the ground if maximum grip wasn't being generated - that's G forces. Due to the rear tires being fused together in a solid axle, strictly speaking, it would be physically impossible for the kart to turn quickest if the inside rear was on the ground.
@MadCat360 Alright if you openly admit that about your ego, I suppose I can't argue.
And yeah I race karts and tune for others, but when you said "all 4 tires' maximum grip" in the description, it sounded like you had no idea about karting. 'Cause if the inside rear tire is ever at maximum grip you're gonna have issues. I just saw an opportunity to humiliate you but guess not.
BTW when I coach, I always say preach that footwork and timing are much more important than steering.
@rsoxboy If the inside wheel is off the ground, and it is capable of generating 0 grip, then wouldn't you say it's at the maximum of it's capabilities at that moment? ;)
@rsoxboy its the lack of a differential that makes it kind of awkward; but he is right... if both rears are on the ground, the kart will try to push forward and understeer wayyyyy too much. to get a good balance, you need to jack the inside rear quite a considerable amount.
Very nice Greg, that is one of the most difficult corners to get right at Infineon. Excellent zero steer. The people on here giving you a hard time are probably really slow and/or insecure. What are you doing in 2011?? Skip Barber series??
@JaredThompson73 Hey Jared, I'm doing Sealed Spec Miata in SCCA this year. I wanted to do Formula F but the funds didn't survive the budgeting process, I think we got about 15k over budget and figured it wouldn't work. lol
@MadCat360 Well it looks like you went into the corner hot and turned the wheel left slightly to correct your oversteer... unless you thought a go-kart steers itself?
@jraybay it does steer itself if you drive it right. That's what I'm showing in the video. When the relationship between slip ratio and slip angle of the tire is in the perfect zone, you gain maximum grip and you waste as little energy to turn the kart as possible, which means you center the wheel and let the kart go. To keep it like that you simply adjust the slip ratio of the tires with your feet as the load comes onto or off of the side wall.
@MadCat360 wow I didnt even realize you replied. I know it does, in a go kart you want to hold the wheel as loose as you can so it doesnt affect the handling in a negative way but from this video its hard to see what you're doing with your body. I couldnt tell tell if you had shifted your body forward for more rotation of the kart or not and I hadnt read what you put in the video desrcription, I wrongly assumed. Sorry if I came off like a noob before lol.
I was waiting to see a PERFECT corner, but all I saw was a lame replay of you doing a easy curve that even a curly headed 6 year old fuck could do. FAIL

wow so much cynical comments.
anyway. Good example of using snap steering and using the throttle to control the turn.

I hate to say something like this but thats not very difficult in a kart just a little oversteer : /

@jraybay overtseer = countersteer. Do you see any countersteer?
