ya know wizzard956... i am a redneck hilljack... and we are both to be proud of that heritage... we are the backbone of the country... playin and singin is what we do..
the carter family and johnny cash is the only country i like and i love listening to both of them just as much as i love listening to rock and roll!! =D
i love this song always been a favorite of mine. i remember listenin to my great uncle play this song on the guitar and i learned to play it on the banjo
a style so often tried and just can't be imitated, try try as they may, isn't anyone can play that song as well as Maybelle. to this day i still try, the Carter scratch is and always belong to Mother Maybelle.
I'm 30 years old and have just discovered the Carter Family through a musical play at a local community theater. I've been listening to their songs for days now, and I guarantee this music will live on forever. My children will listen to it, their children, and so on. Beautiful classics like this never die. Now there's a sunny-sided thought :)
You just don't get this kind of feeling from modern music. Back then, image meant nothing. It was all about how talented you were as a musician. It's sad that things have digressed to the point they have...
what was it like in SW Virginia in 1930 when this was recorded I wonder? (Im not from that part of the country, just seen it tho)
