@arminalizadehnia True but people who do that for a job need to have developed professional skills. He does seem to know his stuff but the professional skills?
So....the torque you put in at the throttle will be the same at the back wheel? Why not turn the wheel by hand and save fuel? Don't you mean the offset crank cancels the torque twist of the engine similar to Bmw's R1200 so you can do better wheelies?
If you don't understand the subject matter you should clarify it with someone who does so it will be of some use to the viewer.
if he only highly understood what he was talking about he would seem so much more confident and understandable, its a good bike but i wish that someone else would present it.. its like a yr 6 speech
@skasyshoot The old KTM 950 superenduro was the best bike for adventure and the most reliable, perfect for the desert! The new Ktm 990 is very powerful but a little less reliable and the 950 was cheaper and easy to mantain. The 990 sm is a great 2cyl-big-supermotard.Bmw and yamaha are comfortable, but in the desert or in long-dirt-hard bike adventures KTM wins with 2cyl and mono-cyl engines.
Should have gone with a TDM based litre adventure machine aimed more at the KTM 990 ADV (which I ride), a cheaper, slightly more reliable version of my bike which takes less than two hours to do an oil change on would be awesome!
The 270 degree opposed crank has been around since the TDM of the 80's, so i'd hardly class it as a reinvention of the wheel. I'd certainly not associate it with the cross plane crank of the new R1. They should have continued progression of the XTZ 750. It won Dakar 7 times with Peterhansel aboard. Why would you drop that nugget? This is too techo to be a real adventure bike. How do you fix it in the desert, by your self, with snot and bark?
@criticalmass181 - easy, if you're stuck in the desert make sure have a genuine Yamaha's S & B kit. Contains genuine Japanese Snot and Imported European Bark. Simple Heh?
Shock and disappointment after viewing this screwed-up and stretched Super Tenere. A stetched Burgman or a heavy Plastic-Ship Varadero. Where is the promised lightness of a desert-gazelle Tenere? It looks rather like a stetched Burgman or the same Plastic-Ship Varadero, then a grownup Travel-Enduro. A heavy hippo in the Tenere, 261kg but 23ltr Tank? Look the NICI-videos on youtoube to see good design of a possible Tenere.
Great, you cant turn the ABS off even if you want to So its completely worthless as an adventure bike The number of times I have nearly killed myself after forgetting to switch the ABS off on my GS12 after switching the ignition back on has taught me to scorn all things ABS off-road (Unless you are on a relatively flat unsealed road and traveling at higher speeds). Imagine taking a bike with non-switchable ABS into mountainous terrain with 1:4 slopes or worse. I would kiss my ass good buy.
Assuming that it does not already have switchable ABS. I am just going by some internet spec sheets and reviews (like this one) and some have directly commented that the ABS is not switchable (Unlike that on the BMW R1200GS/A and the 950/990 KTM Adventure). Even if it is not switchable stock there will probably be an aftermarket kit to break the circuit, although I would rather not rely on the aftermarket (any bike can be made into a Dakar winner if you throw enough cash at it).
For people wondering why you would want to switch the ABS off: When off-road you may, at times, need to lock the back wheel in order to bring the bike to a complete and controlled stop, such as in a steep descent on slippery gravel (I am not saying you need to slide like a maniac, just get some grip). ABS will prevent you from locking your wheel and thus prevent you from actually being able to stop the bike, sometimes you even build up speed to the point that you are out of control.
ABS can have a tendency to get on a roll where even a minor amount of force will result in a lock and thus intervention... Its like experiencing brake failure. On-road ABS is excellent and on unsealed roads where you are travelling at high speed, ABS is helpful as you are faced with much the same problems as on-road should something jump out at you. Its just during technical riding or in steep, slippery, terrain that ABS really needs to be turned off for safety (especially around cliffs)
Haha yeah. Would pulling the ABS fuse out count as an aftermarket solution? Does the ABS have a simple fuse on this bike? Sure, it is not hard to put a simple switch on the ABS line on some bikes (As I said). As for riding big bikes up SMALL slopes (It does not need to be the Erzberg), what is the point of owning an adventure bike if a small hill scares you away. Not everyone here is some American poser who thinks Adventure riding is going to the mall and riding up and down kerbs for the show.
WOW! Great job yamaha now if you want to make MONEY and sell motorcycles get your head out of your ass and bring both the xt 660 and this bike to the U.S.A.!!
We shall see... The R1200GS is a true "all around bike". It can handle the twisties and backroads like a sportbike as well as fire roads and be a long distance touring bike as well. Those are BIG shoes to fill!
When he says this bike was mean to be dropped on its side does he mean that i can pull up in my driveway and literalli just drop it there, cos if he does im buying one next week.
Funny how people seem to judge a bike by simply comparing numbers and looks, which is probably important nowadays, bike looks great, as does a beemer or a ktm adv they all ride and are ridden completly different and are unique in their own way, some guys appreciate this, however there's also a group that think the above is more important
@iggypick Except that they are pitching this at BMW 1200GS buyers, so all those numbers and looks are all important - Yamaha Marketing know this. Having said that, the Beemer still wins in my opinion - and I ride a KTM!
@excelephant, you're right, i'm glad you like a beemer better, biking would be boring and pretty dull if we'd ride the same bike's and in this process we probably get better bikes every year, i ride an old superten, with complete mx suspension of a yz 450, like the beemer as well, but i was at the official NL introduction yesterday, and let me tell you, there was lots of adventures parked outside, both the bavarian and austrian
Soooo... BMW launched the R1200GS in 2004. 6 years later (yes, SIX YEARS LATER) Yamaha delivers identical power/torque, but weighing much more. Yamaha even did'nt have the decency to invent a new design. I simply cannot believe it.
Maybe those intervening years have been used to put some test miles on the Yamaha, in order to put a reliable unit out on the market. Something BMW apparently omitted to do.

hnkules1962 - i agree with u mate, there's a serious lack of innovation and imagination when it comes to the new adventure bikes these days, no one can make the perfect bike.
